  1. Im hoping to breed a litter next year I might have to try it.
  2. That's a good idea. Have you got it hooked up to a tv?
  3. Bones aren't waste theyre calcium. I don't think theyl do to well on heart alone.
  4. Or you could ask in the ferret rehoming thread at the top of the page if anyone has kits from working stock in your area.
  5. Definitely outside animals imo. The cold weather isn't a problem to ferrets at all as long as they have somewhere dry to sleep. The hot weather is more a danger but its just a matter of putting the hutch in a shady spot. I like to feed rabbit pigeon corvid squirrel etc but if I cant get any of these Ill use chicken wings. As long as you've done your homework theyre easy animals to keep.
  6. I had the same problem and the solution was to make the sleeping compartment smaller. It sounds silly but it worked for me.
  7. Couldn't have been a phantom pregnancy I suppose? Im intending to breed a litter myself next season if my jill continues to work as well as she has so far. It will be her first litter so Im hoping she will be ok.
  8. Id agree with that pegstaff I have a hob that wouldn't work at all in his first season but the last 2 hes been one of the best ferrets Ive had.
  9. As mentioned above if you spay your ferrets and one of them turns out an exceptional worker you wont be able to breed from her. Snipped hob is the cheaper and better option imo.
  10. Id wait until theyre at least 6 months then enter them on small warrens.
  11. If this shit gets out of hand ferrets could end up in the same boat as a lot of pedigree dogs with their health problems.
  12. People over complicate things. Walk up to the door knock on it ask politely for ferreting permission and answer any questions they have. Theyl say yes or no. I don't see the need to dress smart or carry paperwork to ask for ferreting permission.
  13. 26 isn't going to put anyone off surely? I could understand if youd said 16. Getting the first piece of land is the hardest but if you do a good job on that you will probably get more off the back of it.
  14. Either late in their first season or next season for me.
  15. Id like to see china making them, would knock the price right down.
  16. To late to late will be the cry when the man with the bargains has passed you by.
  17. Rabbit burgers would work on a bbq. Just make sure you chuck some fatty minced pork or sausage meat in the mix to keep them moist.
  18. The one that bugs me a bit is people saying you've got to starve them before working.
  19. Thought about this a few times over the years but I think Im finaly going to go for it. Mainly looking for egg production but also want something that's nice to look at. been reading up online and the breeds I think will suit my purposes are white leghorns and light sussex so thinking about 4 of each. I wont be able to let the birds free range in the garden all the time maybe just 3 ours a day so I want something that's not going to suffer being in a coop a lot of the time. Im thinking about making the run with a couple of handles on one end and a wheel on the other so I can move it around
  20. No why would it? Ferret doesn't care either way.
  21. Nice shot. I fancy an ultra now they've got rid of that crappy cocking system. how many shots do you get per charge?
  22. I use the same as above they work well. I snapped the tip off a couple trying to stick them into rock hard ground during the big freeze but any pegs would have broken under that pressure.
  23. My jills always swell up and look pregnant after mating with a snipped hob. Theres always the slim possibility its a failed vas but chances are its a phantom.
  24. Thanks pianoman a tin might be the way to go. Ill try to find something small because I only ever take 35 pellets out with me. As for the fast second shot I think the pipe insulation around the scope sounds a good idea. I was out Wednesday evening crawling towards a few rabbits. I had a pellet in the rifle 2 between my lips and the rest in a sandwhich bag in my pocket. Some good ideas on this thread.
  25. The leather pouches look nice but are a bit expensive for my liking. I might go with the straw idea for the bulk of my pellets and Ill work out somewhere to keep a couple of pellets on the rifle stock so I have a second shot if needed. Thanks everyone.
