  1. Cheers for putting up the pics, i remember seeing him now. Very tidy looking dog. We may very well be seeing you over the summer i think. See what happens.
  2. Just to say that the bitch in question does not belong to me, but to another member on here (some know who) who is a good friend of mine. She is 3/8 5/8, about 7 years old, tested and a true cracker. I hunt with her weekly, and am very keen for a pup out of her, hence me taking part in the great stud search 2011! Scent - you could be getting a visit from us Celtic brothers sometime over the summer . . . .
  3. Either. Good whip will do all a beddy/whip will. A 3/4 might have a better coat than a pure, but might lose a tad of pace. Your call mate - depends on what the best litter was - i'd worry less about specific breeding and more about finding a good working strain.
  4. Right you lot, get over yourselves and stop ruining one of the rare interesting threads on here. Congratulations that your dog can catch a hare on its own, but its hardley an exclusive group, and to be fair its getting dull and repetative. If you want to moan, start your own thread. Also. . . . who said we were talking hares here? On some of the land that we run you would catch far far far less quarry with only one dog. Not that we are slipping more than one dog, the dogs work loose and are expected to hunt up their quarry from some very tough cover on very hard land, they then must run it
  5. us traverller lads have more balls then you gorger peolpe will ever have most of us dont no the meaning of the word .............jack.............................. That's not the only word most of you don't know the meaning of.
  6. or was it wiser nd not slower very hard one this,,,, but a good post Shit now you making think. Will one of a good run pair hold back. Just to throw this into the mix. Two dogs who regularly run/hunt together, will often play off their different running styles/abilities to make a catch. I.e run clever - one dog turning the quarry back into the other hanging back, or one running wide to bring into back in. Just like other pack hunters would do i.e lion/wolf.
  7. Nice to see some brits treating an outsider as should be. Glad you enjoyed our little island mate.
  8. Great photos as usual Kay. Some of the greatest sights (and dog work) i've seen is folk working multiple collies in the hill country. I.e Cumbria, or the scottish/welsh hills. Watching 2 or 3 dogs work the wild sheep on those vast, steep expanses of land is something else. In wales they teach the dogs to run in and hold the sheep on command so they can be checked over.
  9. I'll drive matey. . . . .would be a right laugh anyhow.
  10. That may well be true matey, but as you say, you've had collie types for decades and to hear you, they were decent dogs, and your answering this thread. . . . . so. . . . . Thanks for the tip off's mate. Don't think Keanos dog is going to be mating any bitches anytime soon, more's the pity. Any more info on the liverpool dog matey? I know that there are a few on here - i.e COlliejohn etc that know of some good dogs. . . . . .
  11. Right - just to sort any confusion - i did mean a 3 quarter grey hound 1 quarter collie as Johnnyboy says. With the popularity of this breed you wouldnt think it would be so difficult to find one very good tested dog in the whole country!
  12. well lad go to your local sports shop.when you get there buy a pair of shin gaurds.when you get home hit yourself over the head with them as hard as you can ok lad. pack in the dogs lad because you have no business keeping them. Because I don't want them to be injured? The less a dog is injured the more often it can be run that makes sense even to idiots like you that don't give a shite about their animals. I asked a question the simple answer would be either yes get this or no just be more careful. No wonder people that want to take up hunting get put off. My question may have bee
  13. Good on your for caring about your dogs well being matey, but i doubt that it was brambles that ripped your dog open, but i guess it could have been unlucky or have very thin skin. Like has been said, walk the land and remove and bits of metal etc or any debris that could cause damage to the dog. The rest, well, the mutt will probably only plow into brambles after game and that what he's meant to do. Your job is to do your best to remove the obvious dangers and then be there with aftercare etc. You just cant avoid it, i took my pup out the other day and he didnt really run anything and i didnt
  14. If a man was looking for a healthy, tested, proven, all round f*****g fantastic 3 quarter collie greyhound with a good background (working and health) to use as a stud over a well tested, mature, collie/grey bitch in order to provide the next generation of all round pot fillers. . . . . could you suggest any such dogs? Any suggestions, rumours, ideas or leads welcome. . . . .

  18. Did he use a net, line or his paws for the sardines?
  19. Mine takes, snow, sleet, rain cold and mud in his stride, he''s out every day in all weathers, works thick cover, collides with a fair few things and take some knocks, never complains, never slows down and has prey drive like a dog possessed. Good nose, quick, plenty of stamina and a great character. My only complaints would be he was a f****r to train and that the way he approaches life he probably wont make old bones. And you really wont believe this but he took it upon himself to retrieve a red fella at 10/11 months of age single handed.
  20. I had the same with my pup mate. Start off just sitting in the car, doors open, jumping in and out and generally getting used to it. Then sit him on passenger seat on someones lap and just drive across the street or down the drive or something short and the person reassures the dog, after a bit some short journeys with a reward at the end, i.e down the road to the park and out and play. Reinforce that travelling in the car is a good thing. Be patient, it will come in time.
  21. Order it off the net mate - significantly cheaper and a bottle should last for a long long time..
  22. Fair play to you Rake aboot thats quality I have never heard of a Bijon Frise lamping....... I would not have thought it would be quick enough are you lamping sitters? how did you go about training Mia? Im interested I have a 15month BedlingtonXJRT at 15" TTS that is in her second season ferreting I would like to try & lamp with her any tips?? There's a village somewhere sorely missing you buddy Don't suppose your in the market for some magic beans?
  23. Your mum? Must be the home brew. f****n reet. GOt any bucky?
  24. Your mum? Ideation u r a sad man, always something smart to say ye dickhead Me, smart? Cheers matey. But come on. There is no 'best' breed of dog for anything, especially not hunting rabbits. It's like asking what the best car is? But heres a short answer just for you, the 'best' dog that you can buy for hunting rabbits would be a dog that has been well reared, born from a line of dogs on both sides that do that job to a high standard on the kind of land and in the kind of conditions that you wish your dog to perform. The rest is fairly subjective. That better sweet cheeks?
