  1. I've got some deerhound ferrets here, pure mental wee fuckers, do a badger. Also got some saluki x ferrets, stay for hours, box them in, field or fen. Pm for details
  2. Ye mate your not I do mte ive been a gamekeeper for a year Last year I raised around seven thousand birds with a little help. And ye it is ye, and if I get the job I get ferrerting and sporting rights for Vermin control! Hehe !!!! ATB Jake Well done then matey, sounds like your doing well! No disrespect meant! Hope you get the job, i'm only down in the south if you need a hand
  3. I do remember my old man having a locator but i dont think he ever used it. It's funny, some folk seem to be digging all the time, i get maybe a handful or so a season and i'm out nearly everyday for at least an hour or two and full days twice a week, or more. The rabbits are bolted. We know we dont leave kills, even if the ferret was super quick and didnt stop for long, we could still tell by the dog, same with any rabbits still holed up down there. The ferrets kill, and move on and we can mark it and dig down, but like i said rarely happens and i've never dug to a live rabbit. are
  4. Stop ferreting even on land that needs rid of bunnies when it becomes a hassle, with little ones running in and out through the nets and the ferrets running about wasting time killing little hoppers, and the does fighting back and needing digging. If the rabbits need gone, do something else.
  5. The wee man always makes me smile mate Great times i bet, your a lucky man i think.
  6. Just have both, stops the arguments and the headache. A Whippet SHOULD be able to do the same as a lurcher of similar size, but obviously not going to be comparable to a bigger dog at many things. People also look down at them, but they are a very handy thing in the mix of a good lurcher, so if no one was working pure greys or whips then there would only be shite out there to use. I know many lurchers and lurcherxlurcher and thats the way to go sure, but at the start of these lines, some one needs a whip/grey thats doing the buisness to a high standard - i.e bull/whip, beddy/whip, grey/whip,
  7. you get use to it I know matey
  8. As much exposure as possible in a safe way. Got to make the ferrets part of the scenery and part of the team to the dog, same as any other stock breaking. Mine wanted to kill them at first but now plays with them at 11 months.
  9. Magwitch has what i would term as greyhounds, more just a body type than anything else, but of course like anything, they will breed to type if you work at it. Big ferrets cant fit down rat holes, and very small ones get a kicking, so long, slim and tough works best, thats the logic anyhow. I got one that folk might call a greyhound here, but then her sister is a stumpy wee polecat headcase so that throws it all out the windae.

  11. And the worst proper 'fright' would be a very angry boar in sudden close proximity. . . . at speed. when your unarmed.
  12. The worst feeling is when you are somewhere you are not meant to be at night and you suddenly realize that all the trees around you have hundreds of pheasants in them. . . .
  13. Been raining all night and morn - lots of mud so i'm off out on the quad now up the forestry. Anyone else get out and about s.wales?
  14. Stupid conspiracy theory stuff. Ok - so tell me why you think that?
  15. I take it you only started ferreting in the last few years then mate. I always use locators, but dont think it should be an exclusive club. A few nets, ferret etc is a good low cost intro to field sports and some kids are not going to end up finding 160 quid for a locator and collar. All the time that we didnt have them we might have left the odd kill but id say the vast majority of rabbits ended up bolted, as for leaving injured rabbits about. . . . .. . no chance. Never went back next day either. You could equally ask the question - how many folk who dont / didnt use locators have no pro
  16. Midnight snack : Bacon sandwich and cup of tea. Get in!

  17. It wouldn't be my first choice for hunting bunnies. Before the ban, they were popular with terrier men and those who mainly hunted fox.
  18. I've got a lwb 600 cc 4wd road legal quad that i use for some green laneing / off roading. Good fun, gets anywhere,
  19. 5 yotes, some of the greatest dogging we get to see. . . . . . . and we get 33 words! Couldn't you do a bigger write up. . . . . it's been a slow night Well done though.
  20. I have but i picked the warrens with care , small warrens probably 6-7 holes max . Also most of my ground the warrens are shallow and i could easily hear what was going on . Wouldn't be without a locator now though , although having started without one means i am tad more patient than most when it comes to a halt in action . I still don't whip the locator out for at least half a hour and i will only start digging if i'm sure the ferret is stuck I've only had i think 3 digs all season. One to a collar, two to dead rabbits. I just use the locator most of the time to either see which
  21. More a vermin dog, but most decent dogs will catch rabbits on lamp and even most average dogs.
  22. I'd look at a 3/4 collie x. Will do rabbits on most land, in most situations, and most other quarry if the ban is lifted or you fancy a holiday. Also nice to have about and smart. Don't get one if your agressive or angry a lot. Get a bull x - they will put up with you better. 3/4 beddyxwhip also good bet.
  23. that's a good question,i have ferreted without one... Might start it as a topic. Lots of folk hand out warnings and advice about stuff they have never done. Be interesting to know who has started ferreting in the world of the mk1/3, and who was ferreting before, and has picked up the locator as time has gone on etc. Never used one before and never lost a ferret, now i always use one (well mostly).
  24. I'm not a carp ducky poooooooooooooooooooooo  i know your not your welsh ffs     johnny sort this boyo out He can't make it to the top of the stairs at the moment, let a lone sort me out! hhahahahahahhahahahaha whats he done???????and if you have whippet cull it and take one a johnnys pups Just ill mate. Aye, i'm the one who has been badgering him to line gem, so i can take a pup. You should meet my whip sometime, for a scrawny, show bred, piece of shite, he's one tough, ballsy little f****r.
