Has anyone lost or had stolen a pup? Collie/Grey 3/4 is the best guess, possibly a touch of bull. South Wales area, but could have come from anywhere.

You been out to see either type work? Or know anyone who has running dogs? What kind of lurcher attracts you? For a first time dog i would go collie/grey or collie/grey/whip or something. But to be honest your better off just looking for the best bred litter you can find, our of two dogs doing what you want your do to end up doing.

All lurchers are different - what you thinking of? I'd put my whip against a lot of lurchers the same size. One thing i think he has a lot more of than many lurchers lb for lb and that developed at a young age is prey drive! He's f*****g mental and convinced he's a 90lb bull x.

I'm just confirming for the less quick members of the site that 'wildlife officer' means that he works for the RSPCA or SSPCA.

Always going to cause arguments - its just down to personal preferance when it is between a small well bred lurcher and a well bred whippet. Trying to compare a 21/22 inch whippet and a 27 inch bull cross or something is pointless. A small lurcher or a whippet should be able to both do the same jobs, whippet being probably a bit faster and faster take off, and a lurcher probably having a tougher coat etc (obviously depends on breed). Only thing is, some lurchers are easier to train for a first dog than many whippets, but again sometimes this isnt true. A pretty subjective question really.

Good on the police 4 doing their job.Been called out lots of times for lampers and could be doing better things.Most lampers round here are 2 bit tinkers,no rabbits then we`ll pinch your quad and nick 200gal of fuel. Doing their job? Ha Ha Ha. f*****g idiot.

Interesting way to condition dogs! Anyone ever been to Hungary? I lived there for years, great place, very flat, lots of hares. You don't need permission, just a dog and feet.

If she aint gonna do it she probably will pull off rather than take that bad a beating and if she wants to do it bad enough she wont get 'that' hurt. Any how, the fox will have been shot first anyhow, or you'll be on holiday in ireland where the foxes are poofs. . . .

One thing - its all very well 'preparing yourself for when the time comes' but at this stage you really know f**k all about your dog. Sure you know what it looks, smells, eats, shits like etc, but at this point in its career, you don't have a scooby how its really going to run/hunt/work and you certainly cant figure out what might need adding/canceling out in the next gen. And one more thing, stop under valuing your dog without testing it. Sounds like your the one frightened of tackling old red, not the mutt.

hes good as gold mate,showing interest in the rabbit warrens with the lurchers but for no reason other than seems to be enjoying his new found freedom by the looks of things,be nice to get him going on a bit of bushing so il keep at it,poor bugger hadnt been out for a month before i got him some people and their views on having a dog leave a lot to be desired but hes landed on his feet and is like a dog with two dicks really notice the change even after 4 days of having him Good on you mate. I'm sure he'll surprise you yet.

It's when you see decent photos like that of the reds that you realise again that whereas other deer are a bit like big sheep, the reds are f*****g cows! Makes you very much in awe and more often doubt tales of dogs taking them single handed in days gone by. Some task that.

Same with anything mate. Nature/nurture or breeding/bringing on. Best to have high quality of both at the end of the day. You always see exceptions tho - no breeding but a good dogman can make a good dog and sometimes a well bred dog will shine despite a useless owner. But in both cases the end result would be better if both of the ingrediants were present.

Ohhhhh the memories........does anyone else think the hash these days isn't as strong as it used to be??? Whats the problem? You never seen a dog hunt anything only chase stuff? I've never seen 2 yes 2 I repeat 2 dogs sneaking up on a hare!!! From my experience dogs are jealous and no f*****g way would any of my dogs slowly walk up to a hare when another dog was on a lead nevermind sneaking up beside it!!! Fair play, but that is in your experiance with your dogs. Now i'm not saying it happened or not, but why would someone lie? I've seen farm collies hunt like that, stalking
