  1. That's right, get an 11 week old pup in a kennel on it's own, and when it naturally starts to whine etc, use a shock collar on it
  2. Why do folk go out mob handed anyway? What's the point? Gangs of chavy f*****g kids. Maybe if there had only been 1 or 2 of them and they had been polite and reasonable they might have ended up with permission!
  3. I do both shooting and dog work. But i have to admit the former is incredibly easy in comparisson to the latter. Especially when you have a 4x4, a high powered rifle, a caller and night vision. A child could accomplish good bags. It's your call what you do, but i just dont get how people can actually find sport and enjoyment in pulling a trigger. It's fairly boring.
  4. I agree with what has been said above. If ferreting large warrens, we try a spread, usually at the end and middle, to try to squeeze the rabbits out. They do also tend to like to bolt out of the lower holes if the warren is on a slope. However, 90% of the time i enter the ferret in the hole that the dog is indicating the rabbit / s are nearest to, and find that this speeds the whole process up, as the ferret is immediatly on the rabbits trail. You can often predict where they will bolt though, as they do seem to know where the safest escape routes are, such as the hole under th
  5. Sorry for your loss paddy lad
  6. That is REALLY f*****g low. Pure and utter scum.
  7. Seen a shed load but the same shy but only in certain areas to be honest same as any other quarry but saw 5 last night and not one would come in. That's because where you are seeing them mate you cannot shoot them, but there are plenty of folk out trying to lamp them with dogs and not catching them. Hence quite good numbers but shy foxes. I heared there is even a bloke trying to lamp with a spaniel
  8. I think it's just because the gun dog breeds are 'in vogue' these days matey. Lots of daft folk want a lab, springer, gwp etc, fits with their rah image.
  9. With this heat and the cover still up there is a real chance that there is nowt at home, we walk past so many freshly dug out, very used looking warrens with shit all around them with the dogs and get no marks at this time of year
  10. Cheers everyone! Skycat - The hairy one is 'Gem' (or the crocodile ), Johnnyboy68's dog. She is 5/8 grey 3/8 collie (a mix of border and beardie). She will be 8 next year. I have to say that she is the best 'ferreting dog' i have ever had the pleasure to watch work. She does all the usual, marking, respecting ferrets, nets, etc that you would expect of a ferreting dog, but her steadiness and intelligence sets her apart from others. Once a rabbit is found to ground, she will patiently wait for the nets to be placed, and as soon as she sees a ferret come out of the box, she then chooses whe
  11. Cheers guys! stealthy1 - that's the annoying thing at the moment mate, there are definatly a lot more rabbits there than we are hitting, there is scent about and the warrens are being used, but they just ain't staying to ground for any length of time, with the warm weather and cover. Roll on the frosts!
  12. You do seem to see a lot more quality working blacks than yellows, but we have a couple of quality yellow labs on the shoot. I've always been more a fan od springers, mainly because that is what i have always been around, and have done a lot more rough shooting and beating than picking up. Was always impressed with watching them fly into icy fast flowing rivers, where birds had been shoot and dropped in up stream, and be directed back and forth in order to line them up with the bird travelling down, grab it as it came past, retrieve it out and then throw themselves straight back in.
  13. Well done Jamie mate, get some pics up!
  14. So, today was Sunday, and as usual, a day for ferreting. I woke up early and headed off to collect Johnnyboy68 and his dogs and ferrets, and then headed back to mine, where we were met by young Tom. Loaded the dogs, ferrets, and ourselves into the car and headed off. Got to the first spot and immediatly the dogs put up and ran a rabbit, but unfortunatly lost it over the boundry into some gardens. We headed up the hill and started checking warrens, but nothing at home, despite there being obvious scent about, looks like we had just missed them. Finn disappeared for a bit, and when i fou
  15. Aye, i walk them all the time. . . . . . . . . . . down rabbit warrens
  16. Good one matey! Nice to see you back in action, thought we might have lost you Let us know if you fancy some company one day
  17. Macdonalds sell a lot of burgers and have done for years . . . doesn't mean they are high quality does it?
  18. Why "finger up to the one for the pot men" ? Are you not 'a real dog man' if you don't go out for numbers? Just curious? And well done trigger and pup!!!
  19. I wouldn't say that went so terribly wrong mate! - Your 7 month kit can obviously do the job needed of him, which is good to know! - You didn't blank! And you didn't bolt the only bunnies of the day out of the one bolt hole you missed! - You didn't have any crazy digs or waiting about! - And all ferrets and folk came home in one piece! Could be a lot worse!
  20. Now this is what i call a good deer-hound!
  21. Inbox empty mate. He's getting to run the hallowed land? Surely there is no way he will catch anything up there? Isn't all the game twice as fast, three times as big and four times as smart?
  22. I think the adds are auto generated by what is discussed on here (tag words), so 'dogs' generates the rspca add, and at certain times, topics in the general section generate muslim wedding adds etc
