Whippet mate -
not just me then lol,but yes spot on I find mate, that if it's real good land for bushing, around here, that means, lots of patchy cover, holding lots of rabbits etc, and usually really rough ground (often mountainside / top), then it's all in the rabbits favour, as they usually don't have far to travel to saftey, and the dogs have lots of obstacles, fallen trees, ditches, boulders etc to avoid. So out of maybe 20/30 rabbits scented and hunted, with maybe 10/15 put up, rather than to groun, maybe only 3/4/5 are caught. (if a ferret is involved that may go up to 10 +) Different

To be fair, when he did it, both myself, and the experianced dog man i was out with thought that was his running days over. It looked like he would lose the leg, but i rushed him into the vets and then nursed the wee b*****d back to health. He breaks easy, but he's surprisingly tough. -

Cheers guys! Frankel - you wouldn't believe that he has had three proper trips to the vets in the last few months to be put back together. Including this - WHich resulted from a high speed collision with a piece of metal sheeting. You could see bone, tendon, the lot, groin to ankle. -
I was fairly shocked, no one even mentioned it Got down to page three pretty quick though, as there wasn't much to argue about, and it was about (shock horror), actual hunting, rather than, 'd'ya fink ma grannies staffiexalsatioooon cud smmash da faxes, pre-bun'. I hope his accidents have calmed him down mate, but i think it's just a matter of time, he is a dog with a big heart and would rather go through or over stuff than around it! Need to get him fitter now though, running fit, rather than ferreting fit. I was pretty gutted that we spazzed on the charlie, would have been a nice ad

Tell Lee that i apologise matey! I was bloody impressed with Lala, she would have a place on my ferreting team any day! And at the start of the day you told me she might have a snap at the ferrets, and might not mark true. Running your wifes dog down like that . . . . just terrible

Mooching about with the dogs is one of my favourite things to do mate, great sport and if you have the right land, you can get plenty of runs (although most end up getting away). We do a lot of bushing/mooching, with a ferret in the pocket, and anything that is run to ground is popped out again, either into the nets or for the dogs. Cracking sport

Stock training and a run in the rain.

From last nights post? Aye, i was expecting a proper hippy bashing?

You are 100% right mate, since Malt made the couple of changes he did and has been monitering the place, it has definatly become the best section on the forum. Also i think, that there are a really good group of lads on here that have 're-claimed' their section and made the effort to post their days out and this has had a knock on effect! It's great The running dog section is a bit shit really. Aye, i was pleased with the wee fella, although the ass hold, made me chuckle!
-
Well i'm f****d then mate, cos i don't even know what your saying half the time, let a lone know the game
-
I did stick this up in the running dog section, but to be fair, unless you can argue about it, no one gives a shit there, so i thought i'd bung it up here as well. Anyway, decided to take the dog for a bit of stock training after work, down to a local field with only three sheep in it, that are a bit flighty. The dog did well, and while were were there the heavens opened and it started hammering down, like a bloody monsoon! I'd taken the hob in my pocket as i thought i might bolt a few on the way home, but those plans were well and truly washed away. However on the way back, finn,

Only for the 'elite' eh whin? You make it sound like some kind of under cover espionage shit. It's just chasing stuff around fields with a big torch and a mutt, and trying not to get caught doing it.

Decided to take the dog out after work today for a little refresher course on sheep, so went down to a field near me where there are only three of them, and they are dark colored and a bit flighty (one is also a tup). Dog behaved well. While we were there the heavens properly opened and it was like a monsoon. On the way back he picked up a scent and plunged into a strip of dying bracken at one end, out the other end popped a rabbit, making a desperate bid for the far hedge. It never made it.

We got stopped the other day going out ferreting, the cop pulled in behind us when we parked up, he had been following us. He stopped because we had dogs. We were in an area with illegal quarry species, but that was not his concern. His MAIN concern was that so many folk use 'doing a bit of rabbiting with the dogs' as an excuse to go around farms etc stealing stuff. So often it's f**k all to do with the hunting . . .

Done matey!

Cheers everyone! Brimmer - the terrier is malc1's, and apparently has done very little ferreting, but you would NEVER believe that if you saw her work, pushing a long tight hedge rows, marking true, very respectful of ferrets, incredibly quick off the mark onto rabbits in the net, and by the end of the day i was chucking her up into the hedges on the banking and telling her to stay by holes we couldn't get to and she was covering them like a pro.
-
Good write up mate, and the dog looks a cracker
-
Is your misses letting you work this one? How many of them dark ferrets have you got now, you must be collecting them?
-
How is he today mate? Recovered? Like has been said, a stoat or rat would be good guesses.

Cheers mate, must admit i was chuffed, never thought he'd work the lamp, especially after such bad injuries, that he's had -
I was coming home from work late today, about half seven, eight ish, the rain lashing down on the wind screan, and the wind blowing a gale in a cloudy sky, and just as i was thinking how much of a shame it was that i was heading home for an early night, with work tomorrow, i got a text from my buddy ORT, saying something along the lines "this weather is a lamping dogs dream". Well, what more prompting do you need? So we aranged to have a very quick shine for an hour about half nine. ORT bringing his lamping bitch Milly, a class act and me bringing my ferreting partner Finn, just for the w

Six hours plunging your hands into snow over and over again, in below freezing temps. . . . f*****g HURTS!
