  1. Dirty, stinking, horrible, pigs! Def wouldn't ferret an active pig set.
  2. Today saw johnnyboy and I heading over the border for our third trip to the foreign land, to do a bit of bunny bashing with Malc1 and his wife Lee. Up at half four, time for a cuppa and to load of the car with gear, ferrets and dog, and then off down to pick up johnnyboy, and his two dogs and ferrets. We left at about 6am, didn't make the best of time, and were up with Malc1 just before eight. We were well met, with a nice cup of tea, as usual, and had a little chat, waiting for my Dad to turn up (he was joining us for the morning). Once he had arrived, we set off, the team completed by Ma
  3. Cheers guys! tegater - Aye mate, i got 100 miles to do to get to where we are going tomorrow, so need to get up and off early doors to get a good day in
  4. I got a phone call yesterday from a farmer who had got my card, saying that they had planted a load of corn (i think) and as it was coming up the rabbits were starting to get to it, so would i come and see what i could do to reduce their numbers. So this afternoon i went up to have a look and see what was what. Luckily the farm is only 5-10 mins away from me, so fairly handy. Met up with the farmer, and followed him up to the part of the farm he wanted me to look at. Couple of nice big fields, with thick woodland to one side and a few small copses dotted about. Plenty of rabbit signs a
  5. I use an opinel, they have a good blade, that keeps sharp. Gut in the field, at least the green offal, bladder etc. Usualy take kidneys, heart lungs etc out at home and feed to ferrets etc. Then twist/snap all legs and head off and cut through skin to remove. then stick thumbs under skin in middle, pull up and either with a knife or scissors cut it through and then just full apart and off either end. Job done. Also, soak over night in a pot of salt water (but dissolve the salt on the boil and leave cool). The salt will remove the urea / ammonia with the blood and it will improve the taste
  6. It's a long winded affair with this total bell end who owns a house that is surrounded on all 4 sides by my permissions, he also has a small paddock. Last time we were doing it we got accused of scaring his horse (that was standing with us having a scratch), and he got quite shirty, however, everytime we go we ferret his borders. Not a happy man. There is also a set in his small back garden we have had a number of rabbits out of commando style Almost forgot the time he came out of his house to tell me to stay off his land, and finn saw him, went through the fence, up his drive, past him,
  7. Lovely menu. Always makes me laugh you can pay 22 quid for a pheasant on the plate and cant get 1 quid for a brace when fresh.

  9. Guess who's garden mate? That's right, the horse dick head I had a quick look over the horse paddocks on my way past, and there are definatly still a good number of rabbits there, i saw double figures on the bit i shone (but didnt let finn at them). Would be wouldn't it Of course I was waiting for him to come out his patio door at 8pm to find a bearded man in a black hoodie and blood stained trousers, torch in one hand, dead rabbit hanging out of hoodie pocket, trying to drag a small black whippet out of his shrubbery.
  10. That first photo is a cracker. . . .the pup is clearly think . . ."What the fook is that?"

  12. To be fair, i was chuffed that he only get a few scrapes and small cuts, my dog is somewhat accident prone, as some members on here know He has no brakes. He also hasn't quite grasped why we use the light . . . .
  13. Got a phone call today asking me to do another farm of a decent size!

  14. I had to work fairly late today, and got home after dark. Decided to take the dog for a bit of road walking along the lanes near me about half seven. I took the torch i use with the gun with me, as it has a pretty decent beam for a small thing. Anyway, passed a paddock and had a little look over the hedge as i walked past, and there were a couple of bunnys sat just off the far hedge. Walked around to the gate, jumped over and walked towards where i had seen them, flicked the torch back on and slipped the dog, they were still a good way off, the first bunny saw him as he got half way an
  15. Cheers all Malc1 - See you early doors mate, i'll be waking up at 4.30 am
  16. If we have a mild winter. . . . i'm going to cry.
  17. She's not gonna complain about guns is she? And please let's not start another guns v Dogs debate My point was, that the ban on hunting with dogs was fairly unlikely to mean that all the foxes, deer, hares etc would get to live out a peaceful life etc etc etc Which is what muppet was suggesting. By the way, i shoot and use dogs.
  18. I see what you are saying mate, but looking at a beddy x whip (as bred today) in comparisson to a (decent) pure whip - to me there doesn't seem to be a 'huge' difference. Especially when it comes to nose, stamina, determination, grit etc. The only real advantage is that it gives the thicker skin, and takes the edge off the speed, leading to less accidents. As i said, other than that, i can't see that there is much improvement by breeding in bushing beddy blood. Same as Greyhounds, a good one will take all quarry and hunt like a demon, it's just that they break a bit easy, so adding beddy,
  19. "At last i thought our foxes, hares and deer, would be able to live in peace and quiet in their natural habitat" Ummmmmm guns? Retarded bitch. Not even particularly hot.
  20. In this country son. . . . . it'll be the law that fucks you.
  21. There are always a lot of folk that talk about their good beddy lurchers. . . . . Now maybe i'm going to get shot down over this, but where are all the top class working beddys that they are being bred from, cos i was under the impression that most of the beddys about were pure shit or sub standard at best (seen a few good ones though, coco on here looks like he has a pair of crackers). I reckon most of these good beddy greys and whips.. . .. the quality of the dog comes from the greyhound or whippet used (which people massivly under estimate) and the beddy is just giving it a bit of
  22. I'm no expert, but slipping a dog head on at a chase is a good way to end up with a collision and a dead mutt.
  23. Spanner in the works maybe, but my old man used to do a lot of trialing, and also used to work the same dogs a lot both rough shooting and on driven shoots. And as far as i am aware they excelled at both . . . . . . Apart from that i agree with danw wholeheartedly!
  24. Well done Bryson! At least he's catching them, that's a good start, and you can just iron out the niggles KR - He still tried to go off on his own cat hunting when i got back Our 'neighbours' have recently had kittens which have now got old enough to prowl around at night on their own. And they like having a mooch about my place, mainly due i think, to the smell of various dead animals that are always hanging about . . . this the dog has sussed and it's only a matter of time before he gets the drop on one
