Just common sense and he had his share terry , once bitten and all that , funny enough I was looking at some man made rabbit warrens up here [ Yorkshire ] and saw some man made and they had been built and positioned just has he had described doing them with his dad as a boy.

I used to do a very good blind drop in a quarry at Thrapston , the Rabbits came out along the only road in or out to feed , it was about 60 yards across and the man who took me there said back in the day it was worth putting two nets out as the first net could be pulled down done by the number of Rabbits being caught but the most we had was 14 , I did manage to trap a lot there though .

Magwitch used to do a large Orchard down south , he had some Rabbits out of that place over the years.

this is Nelsons Trammel , I had just done the sett then chucked the ferrets in alog pile 50 yards away 4 bolted straight away and were caught in a line , when I moved up north the nets were dropped and I will have to wait till the summer and my hands work and try to untangle them .

There were some good old names there from back in the days when this was a true hunting forum Duckwing, Peg and Gun , Woodga and a few more and I could read their posts all night . I have used long nets with ferrets for many years in certain locations and have done very well but if the holes are fairly open I much prefer purse nets no matter how many holes there are . Some years ago on a long gone Forum there was a pro Rabbit catcher who among many methods used a quick set Trammel system , he spoke so highly off this type of net I thought I may get one and find out myself , it turned out that every thing that the man had written about his trammels was true and all I can say is that if I was starting out again today as a young man I would use NOTHING ELSE . Many years ago when this was a Hunting site there was a chap on here called Mapreader he put up some great posts on Long netting with pictures and he caught rabbits in their hundreds , mainly he went on his own and sometimes took his son he would use 3/4 hundred yard trad nets on a drop . On one occasion a thread moved on to rabbits hitting the net at speed and my comment was that I thought Nets seemed to work better when they were slower I even had the cheek to suggest those that creep into the net were quickly enmeshed, as you can imagine this started a heated debate where I was told I

I think squatters bring more problems than reward , of course it is nice to pick one or two out of a squat but over a night you can make it hard on a dog , I have seen collie crosses walk up the beam on tip toe to a rabbit and just stare at the rabbit because they know they will lose a lot of ground when they go in quick ,I think the best rabbit to run is one crossing the field in front of you on its way home with enough space for the dog to get up quick and knock it off its run , that is when it makes mistakes ……… just to add , I have never ran a dog in the Dales type of country or near

I see Beggars every where in Leicester when I visit, strong fit young men but why are they there ? there are thousands of jobs going and they won't work because it is easier to beg, I am on a forum for Bricklayers and there is a constant stream of adverts that say HOD CARRIERS WANTED £160 A DAY MUST WORK AT LEAST FOUR DAYS A WEEK why do not people take these jobs , its a good wage and anyone can do it , it's not as if it's hard as a machine doe's all the lifting but they would sooner beg, I think how can they do it , where is their pride , just before xmas I was in Kendal the town cent
