  1. definitely out later . blowing up big time , thick cloud and a bit of rain. do for me an the dug
  2. as said before a clubman from cluson. if you go direct you should be able to get a lamp, 9amp lithium battery, charger and battery holder for about £140 delivered.
  3. good wind, heavy cloud , no moon and a bit of rain in the air. keeps their ears down
  4. take your time with a dhx . it'll take a while to mature so easy with it. get some chicken wings down it. nice pup by the way
  5. i feel for you mate. my joints are heading that way. get some good non steroidal anti inflamatory meds from the quack. the only other things that will help are exercise and a good diet. i'm doing better now than i was 10 years back. don't pack in with the dogs , you'll sieze up . atb rob
  6. bit chancy with a pup from 2 half crosses in my mind. they could throw either way and there's a lot of collie in that mix. however as long as you're happy to take a punt then go for it. i'm happy with my 3/4 bred but if i were wanting to line him to have a pup i'd be looking for a bitch with no collie in it. a half cross to half cross both with sighthound would be a different matter in my mind as they'd be throwing racy pups whichever way they throw. atb rob
  7. I dont know mate tbh, but acebeam claim 800 meters.... I lamp rabbits and fox mainly, so not too many make it beyond 800 meters and if they do they deserve to get away!!! Anyway there are fek all fields around by me that are nearly a kilometer long or wide!!!! I can say that it lights up stuff as good if not better than my lightforce at close to the lightforces limits..... Hope that helps! cheers. i do like the white light of the cree lamps. i have one of the cluson ones but this time of the season its pushing it and i've gone back to the lazerlite.
  8. what distance would you say the beam on these is useable to ? cheers
  9. stands about 26 on a good day when he's not skulking about like a collie
  10. 3/4 grey 1/4 collie. about 18 months now. pic taken a couple of months ago. he's coming on ok and we're both learning quick
  11. the scout's a nice catty. think i must have had the gen 1. couple of slits made it take looped 1745 tube. nice. watch out on the customs fee though if ordering direct from the U.S. you will get charged on the doorstep before UPS will hand it over
  12. Not being funny but your kennel/run must of bin bad for your dog to keep escaping. Poor dog died because of it tut tut i dont keep the dogs penned up when i'm home.
  13. never had any hassle at all with lurchers but a little patterdale i had used to cause the neighbour nightmares. his mrs decided to start planting flowers everywhere on their back garden. well this little pat was a right escape artist and day after day found new holes through the hedge and dug em up. he was constantly chasing him back through the hedge. i was apologetic and he was alright with it. dog got out one time too many and ended up under a car. little git managed to pup my lakey cross bitch before he pegged it. cracking litter of pups.
  14. looks a cracking bit of mixed ground . good luck
  15. i've run 2 dogs beyond 9 . the brains do kick in when they knock on. nice to see dogs working on when some folk would bin them. atb rob
  16. mines a bugger too. fully obedient around the house and exercising. retrieves to hand, sits, stays and walks to heel . out on the lamp its a different story. lap of honour when he catches and dont want to retrieve. he'll come near enough but he needs work and he's 18 months. first time with a collie x for me so i'm learning all over again. guess its finding out what makes the dog tick. something about this dog. i know he's worth the time so i'll stick at it.
  17. and no reason why not. all the best
  18. sound like the pup choosing what it wants to do. make the walk as interesting as you can. i also had a patterdale that was like that. you'll get through it. loads of walks did the trick for mine.
  19. had an hour out with buck earlier. more around than last time out. good strong wind and horizontal rain. he had 4 slips and had 2 out of the 4. the land has some fair sized fields but its hilly and rabbits can get over the brow of the hill and out of the beam. he earned his grub tonight. still lots do work on with the retrieve and i might have to get a red filter for the lazerlite as they are twitchy. happy days ( and nights).
  20. 8 years old. whippet x bed bred by my uncle and given on my birthday much to the anger of my mother. started ferreting with him and my uncle at 9 . worked the dog to ferret and on the lamp till he was about 9 . went everywhere with me.
  21. if you think your old dog has done you well i'd use him. a wheaton dog will throw pups that may look similar but will be totally different in character. other option buy in a pup of the same breeding as yours and don't line the grey.
  22. this dog is a ringer for one i had in the 90's. i think mine was dhxgh x 3/4g x collie. best and smartest lurcher i've ever had. took all quarry and worked on till he was 9.
  23. agree with that. i got mine through shooting. farmers have stock and are wary of dogs. they don't understand that we have bothered to stock train our dogs. its all about building trust
  24. i think the issue of permission is all relative. these days the consequences of being caught running dogs on land where you have no permission are harsher and the public is more aware. 20 years ago i never had any permission, was out 3 or 4 times a week and regularly got a tug by the law but never really suffered. views have changed and maybe i'm a little wiser ( or have mellowed) so i only run now where i have permission. yes its hard to get but keep at it. put yourself where farmers are going to be. the local hunt is a good place. they all rely on the hunt to collect fallen stock. hard wor
