  1. I cant beleive people are actually critisising the legitimate use of bows for hunting... I personally would be honoured to be able to stalk a roe or red in a mature british woodland with the knowledge and ability to make a fatal shot. I can think a few more natural, back to basics ways of putting meat in the freezer. The air rifle used incorrectly is just as inhumane, the amount of people that take rediculous 'pot shots' is a joke. Maybe we should ban the use of air rifles to.
  2. Well done Im trapping rats for friend using my mk6 FENNS and mk4 FENNS and i much prefer the mk6s, more humane if set right.
  3. My albino hob was found wild last september time, now hes a very capable ferret and he was skin and bones when i found him. So i would say, yes some ferrets can survive but i would imagine the majority cant. Remember although the domestic ferret looks the same as a wild polecat, they are actually very different animals.
  4. well said, and a good point made! Not knocking anyone elses advice, just thats my take on things. More obedience training wont hurt of course either.
  5. I suggested what i did because by the sound of it the dog makes a bid for freedom because of his desire to hunt, hes hunting for himself because its the only way he knows how. He doesnt know to work WITH his owner. A bit of ratting in a 'controlled' environment (like a barn as suggested) IMO (which doesnt really count for shit) would be beneficial as it would teach the dog to listen to his owner and work with him. Not to mention melow the dog out a bit. Any dog with a high prey drive will ignore the recall if it is hot on the trail of its quarry UNLESS it knows working with you is the most suc
  6. Taking him out ratting in the correct environment will most probably help. He will learn to listen to you and work with you, because you are finding and flushing the rats for him. Might be worth considering pal
  7. WELL DONE LAD A sport i wish i had had the oportunity to get in to.
  8. Im sure that these days if a fecking shit-su had a pop at some one it would get called a 'pitbull type'! Aparantly the only dogs that ever attack anyone are pitbulls...
  9. good, but if you do need him out, let me know first please pal. atb with the baby and pup
  10. Is the spaniel the one bred by my freind?
  11. When i was a kid it seemed like they were everywhere, allways see then when out fishing. Now is a different story, mink are about in numbers and i havnt seen a water vole for probably 10 years.
  12. The antis are more deluded than we are if they think the ban will be repealed. Free vote and repeal are very different
  13. :tongue4: come on clint, do a fellow hunter a favour............. whats her number? lol :showoff: shes got my vote
  14. Or get a local terrierman in to try to do the job properly.
  15. Where abouts in lincs? Be helpfull for anyone interested.
  16. Nice to hear all the same, i quite like the sound of springer x patterdale to be trained up for the beating line but be handy for flushing fox etc without easily going to ground.
  17. Is the tan and choc dog the cockerxterrier? Looks a belter and a cross i really like the sound of. How does it work compared to a spaniel (did you train it to the same standard as a spaniel or more of a free rangeing hound?) and also how difficult was it to train? Good sport daytime rabbiting, the ground looks nice too.
  18. Theres one in running dog addiction. I would imagine a cross of this type would be good in todays climate as the deerhounds coat would hide a multitude of sins.
  19. Its at that moment i would think "feck! wheres the sodding mutt?"...... and i garuntee i would turn round and see the bugger stretched out going hell for leather behind a bloody muntjack!!!!
  20. no worries, if i dont bump into you at a game fair ill deffinately pm you to sort out what i want.
  21. Will you be at the belvoir hunt open day (asuming the weather isnt as bad as last year, lol)? I wouldnt mind getting one of those 1.5" collars for my lurcher.
  22. If you have to get him then you can punish him, if he comes to you even if you start to go get him praise him, but for gods sake if he comes to you DONT punish him. I know that its hard not to, lol. As already said, sounds like a typical pup going through its teens, its just a phase but i wouldnt let him get away with anything just because its a phase.
  23. In that case they want to wait out side the garden centers and nick anyone with a bag of fertiliser.......... because they must be growing canabis!!!! Glad it didnt turn into one of the horror storys we often hear of.
