I remember the odd dog that catches my attention on here, and yours was one of them, big line bred beddy grey if i remember right. Im bringing on a 6 month old pup (wheatongrey x colliegrey) and shes shaping up well, very interested in beddy lurchers though hence me remembering. Keep up the trialing pal, and let us all know how you get on next time. Same goes with the lurcher work. atb BH

Heres a few picks not long after i got her; And heres one at 5 months old (photobucket is playing up and i cant seem to get anymore on); She was 21" tts about a week or 2 ago, i should imagine shes not far off of 22" now.

I think the pups are 6 months old on the 27th of November pal. Mines very fiesty and stubborn but also very inteligent. Picked up all my training no trouble, just a matter of getting past her stubborness. Shes broken to most stock (havn't done sheep yet because i cant find any that i have access to) and ferrets, infact just today she found me a hob ferret out on a walk and was completely steady with it (hes now in my yard and gonna get some condition back into him, poor sod). Retreives very well once it clicked and got her used to the long nets. She can spot a hare fukin miles away and is a so

Out of slickdickos (think thats his name) litter? Ive got a bitch pup from him. Shes everything i wanted from her so far. The collie shines through in her training but the wheaton in her attitude. I have very high hopes for her.

Well done, i know exactly what you mean whean you talk about pressure to make the shot. Was with you all the way through that, few shots, nerves calmed and then you could shoot confidently. Do you still run that big beddy lurcher? Remember a thread a long while back where you compared to a bull cross.

And the big question............................... IS SHE SINGLE? Feck it, if shes not, who do i have to kill??? lol Fair play to the girl

Ive seen birds 'dispatched' with them game dispatchers still blinking and moving their eyes, very much alive, i dont rate them. Personally i prefer to give them a good wack on the head with my stick, no need for a preist when youve got your beating stick. But somtimes guns and other beaters moan about the stick method so i will break their necks without ripping the skin/tissue simply by twisting the head in one hand and the body in the oposite direction with the other hand, the neck completely dislocates and they still hang well at the end of the day. Humane dispatch is more a priority than wh

Anyone take there lurcher on pheasant beat?
Born Hunter replied to Rory4's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As has been said, ALWAYS ask the keeper first, and as with gundogs if you dont trust your dog 100% in a particular circumstance (ie just walking past a cover crop/wood thats to be beat later) then just stick it on the lead. Many of the DIY and non commercial type shoots will allow it especially if a lurchers particular 'talents' will come in use. Just be sensible about it as with a gun dog and remember if your dog does f**k it up abit, its not the end of the world as ive seen many 'well trained' spaniels do the same. Predjudice against lurchers in the shooting community are rife, especially at -
Just shy of 30 rabbits with ONE ferret!!! Thats fuking good going by my standards pal. That little fella has earnt his keep! WELL DONE

but surely the anti's argue that shooting is preferential to actually hunting foxes as a matter of control? For now Y.I.S Leeview Yes, but I think seeing graphic images of shot foxes will inspire them to go for a ban on shooting as well as, not instead of, the hunting with dogs ban... Don't you think thats part of the antis end game anyway? Followed by ferreting, hawking, legal lurcher and terrier work and fishing and anything else which involves countrymen so much as setting foot in a field!
-
Did the article actually say that it is going to be introduced in spring, or that IF it was to be introduced then that would be the best time. Personally i dont see a need for it, the fox is an important part of our ecosystem now and it only needs control not elimination.

What you just sed sums it all up, lol. But he can bollocks if he thinks anything is changing, ive been walking these fields, river, and woods since i was a very young lad, i wont cause any damage or trouble but ill keep doing what i do. I probably know the local land better than anyone else, him included.

Dont be affraid to turn away from warrens that are just too tricky for a lone ferreter. Ive done alot of ferreting on my own (lukily now i have a couple of good mates who gladly help) and its a horrible feeling not being able to see or get to the whole warren with thick foliage around and the locator not picking up your ferrets! Ive never lost any ferrets but many experiences like that will eventually lead to it. So dont feel you have to just to please the land owner, as long as your showing willing and trying your best 99% will be very happy with you and understanding.

Thanks for the replies. I understand his point of view. At the end of the day ALOT of people walk there dogs in these fields and i know some are absolute b*****ds for worrying the beast, i just felt it was unfair to bollock me when i was no where near his beast. I suppose i would be more understanding if he wasnt the way he was, hes got a deserved reputation for being an awkward arsehole. I guess im just pissed off because i felt like i was being tared with the same brush as all the irresponsible dog owners, but 'hey ho' i own a lurcher so i better get used to it! atb BH

Title is pretty self explanatory. I was walking my lurcher pup off the lead in a field down by the river today which is a well used walk (not sure if it is a actual footpath but been used for years). Then the local 'own everything' land owner comes up and tells me to get my dog on a lead because 'she will play hell with the beast', which ill add were about 3 fields away. I explained she wouldn't bother them etc etc even if i was in the same field as them but still i was told to put her on a lead, so for the sake of sticking her on the lead till he fecked off i did so. But where exactly do i st

Dont stand up under a barbed wire fence!!!

Bet the keepers pissed themselves -
Do you actually live in the real world? Shooting sure as hell dont garuantee a clean kill, anybody that shoots can confirm that. Theres always occasions when shots go tits up, dodgy bullet/pellet, poor pattern etc etc. Also to make the statement that the coursed hare must be terrified and probably die of stress after shows how little you really know! The hare is a natural quarry species, natural prey. It has evolved (at this point we will have to all beleive the theory of evolution unless you beleive 'god' made all the creatures of the earth in the form they are now! lol) to evaid predators by

iVE TRYED EVERY BUTCHERS
Born Hunter replied to Ratter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I struggled as well mate. Need to find a proper butchers, one that is in partenership with local farmers, i did and they sell me a bag for a quid, real good quality meat and fat. -
Just suppose 2,3,4.....10 000 people marched down to altcar, beaters, slippers, greyhounds, everybody very much involved, and then they had a bloody good days coursing............... What the f**k could the government do then? That sort of 'all for one and one for all' spirit would give them the middle finger and might just have the desired effect. They would try to make an example of the organisers and the main people, but if everyone had a greyhound or longdog or were actively driving the fields, they couldnt do that.

i have 9 shot 23inch barrel wingmaster pump, when asked why i needed it i replied it is very usefull for knocking out maggie nests as after 3 or 4 shots the bird often flies out and you still have rounds left, fac man said thats good enough I was just about to say the same for squirrels, a 5 or more shot auto would be a very good tool for such a job. The only other alternative is to have numerous guns ready to shoot, say one shooting the drey out and a couple more for bolters, but a FAC auto would solve this.

dead partridge
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I did do on both the birds, no aparant marks, thats why i wondered if the stress of a stoat possibly in the pen might have done it. -
dead partridge
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Cheers, ill talk to the keeper this afternoon, he'll know whats what, but just wondered what anyone else had to say. All the other birds are great, real strong and looking very healthy. -
I was checking the pens today and feeding etc and got a call off of the keeper, there had been a stoat spoted near one of the partridge pens yesterday afternoon, he checked in the evening and everything was just fine. Anyway he told me to call him if anything was wrong once i had checked the pen. When i got there there was one dead partridge in the middle of the pen, and one still alive but very lame, could hardly move and looked a bit roughed up. Had i not known about the stoat i would have put the dead one down to the weather killing it. Is it possible that the bird died of stress as i could
