    Nothing is better than experience but a good book is David Harcombe's THE WORLD OF THE WORKING TERRIER, that mans an ambassidor for terrier work and to follow his attitude towards digging, terriers and your quarry is only a good thing.

    Advances in science are always good imo. If we were not to make advances in such science we would be at a loss when another nation does.

    A cat remains the property of it's owner until such time as the owner relinquishes ownership, or the cat becomes feral. There is no legal precident that I'm aware of to confirm what 'feral' actually means, so great care should be taken to ensure that you are squeaky clean before taking action to destroy a feral cat.     Personally i think i would work if approached correctly. Selective breeding is no different to evolution only humans decide whats 'fittest' not nature. Completely ignoring ethics by selectively breeding humans based on inteligence and physical performance would surely create a blood line of more inteligent, faster, stronger etc etc people??? However with any selctive breeding programme there appears unpredictable bad traits, for example the bloodline could loose alot of human interaction skills or adaptability. Basically, yes we could improve multiple human traits but at what loss?

    I would seriously consider getting a couple of ferret kits this summer pal, i garuntee you will get permission for them sorted by the time they are ready to enter and if you are unsure about the ins and outs of working ferrets someone will come and give you a hand till your confident. Hell, if you go out your way to get ferrets and permission ill come and accompany you for your first few jaunts! Derbyshire aint too far away for me for a few trips. I could ask a few keepers if they want an extra beater, no promises though but if i heard of a space come up and you are a genuine lad like you appear i could put your name forward...     Best bit of advice i can give you is teach your pup about BARBED FECKING WIRE! From your first walk have the pup out in the field crossing barbed wire fences and running around the stuff, they will soon learn what it is, how to spot it and how best to negotiate it. Dont do what some do and just avoid it, the pup needs to become wise to it. There almost certainly will be minor injuries as your pup grows and when it begins work, but a wise pup is far less likely to seriously injure itself.     By some ferrets or start beating, all of my permissions has come through ferreting or beating. Just gain trust and respect before mentioning lurchers. Most landowners/keepers are quite happy for you to do some ferreting, its your foot in the door.

    When i said boring, i was refering more to this whole argument. Reading all the evidence from BOTH points of view just for everyone to have the same opinion as before.     Good post sandymere, i didnt read it all because, well i just got bored and to be honest although i agree with alot of it i disagree with alot to and theres just too much there to comment on. You may like antagonising pro raw diet folks like myself, but the simple fact is people like myself simply disagree with people like yourself.     Nothing to do with 'new age hippy' bollocks, to me its old school and makes alot of sense, simple as. We all want whats best for our hounds, raw meat diet is logically better. But thats my opinion and all that matters to me.

    Each to their own pal, but your vet is missing the whole concept of the barf diet. Dogs evolved on a raw food diet! Comercial pet foods have only been around 60 years or so. Basically theres no such things as a nutrient defficiency with a good barf diet. I dont understand why you feed raw but think you 'need' a commercial buscuit as well. Does your vet have much experience with raw food diets, or is it all theory?
