  1. Nature or Nurture? Can't really prove it either way, weather dogs are born bad or made bad, too many deciding factors to say really. The smallest incident can have huge conciquences, now that is one thing nature teaches us, i think its called the butterfly effect or summats similar. So something quite trivial in a pups upbringing could turn it 'psycho'. Or as has been said, possibly it is genetic, but then it raises the question, why would evolution produce these 'psychos' (i know we are talking about selective breeding here, so not strictly evolution, but theres 'bad uns' in wild species as w
  2. Good advice, as always SS. Also try to get a good side on shot into the chest. Even though your using the right cartridge for the job, a arse end shot or a frontal shot often end in wounded running foxes.
  3. They were all they had in lead shot so i thought i might as well. If nothing else they will ensure a clean kill, lol. Thanks for the replies
  4. What does everyone think to heavy loads, particularly for fox shooting. Today i bought some BBs for foxing, as before long we will be out with the terriers on the shoot n cracking on with some fox drives. The only cartridges they had in BB shot was 50gram 3" cardridges, so i bought 2 boxes of 10. Before i used 36gram loads with good success. How does the larger load differ other than the obvious, more recoil, and larger pattern? Do i need to consider a different choke and much difference in lead? For the purpose i use a 12 bore 3 shot semi with half choke.
  5. 12 bore semi auto with 5 shot and a fairly open choke but obviously depends on the ground, as a rule i just stick with half choke for everything but if i knew the rabbits would be really close skeet would be used. I think with shooting bolters the best approach is just to shoot whenever you feel its right, the little buggers will be away through the hedge, down a hole, under a trough etc etc if you worry about giving them time to run so as not to blow em apart. Always get plenty of good rabbits this way and a few that are heavily shot up for the ferrets.
  6. cheers pal, yeh SD did a good job, couldnt have asked for more in the pup. imo shes showing alot of potential.
  7. Heres my new pup, had her 5 days now. Got a big future a head of her, hopefully she will do what i ask of her. She was bred by Slickdicko. Sorry about the quality of the last one
  8. dont think that would be a very good defence in court, lol. "yes your honour, not guilty, i didnt know what was in it so i thought bolloks ill risk it" lol

I think all the surgeries are run off their feet at the mo, every bloody one thinks they have swine flue!
  13. Do you actually live in the real world? Shooting sure as hell dont garuantee a clean kill, anybody that shoots can confirm that. Theres always occasions when shots go tits up, dodgy bullet/pellet, poor pattern etc etc. Also to make the statement that the coursed hare must be terrified and probably die of stress after shows how little you really know! The hare is a natural quarry species, natural prey. It has evolved (at this point we will have to all beleive the theory of evolution unless you beleive 'god' made all the creatures of the earth in the form they are now! lol) to evaid predators by
  14. Wheres chocy hob nobs!? The ultimate in all biscuits, cant make a pack last longer than 10 mins, garuanteed!
  15. Good man for sticking that up! He just touched the rabbit and it was gutted, lol. For own use, bollocks to preasentation, the good meat isnt harmed and so no problem. But yeh a butcher would moan.
  16. OK, sorry to have offended you so much you felt the need to call me a tosser. Like to explain? I simply said what i did because im looking for similar breeding but i would require it to hunt and tackle fox in compliance with the law. Before anyone says anything, wounded foxes need follwing up and despatching and i take part in a few fox drives as i help run a shoot, this is completely legal. Not to mention the fact that the law should hopefully be overturned soon. So i wasnt trying to drop the bloke into any trouble, understand? Im not the sort of person to post on every litter bred st
  17. If they had been bred with the intention of taking a few redskins as well then i would be tempted. All the best with them anyway.
  18. Boots, dont think you can beat a good pair of boots. In the winter i always wear waterproof deerhunter trousers with them and i can walk through water over knee deep and not get any moisture through. Obviously if i stood there i would, but just walking through dikes, deep puddles and shallow rivers etc, no trouble. The boots iv'e got are the Meindl Lhotse GTX. Got Le Chameau wellies as well, but just dont think they are as good for a days work as boots.
  19. Dont be surprised if this happens again in the next few years time...... It'll be me! Me and my mate have just decided to apply to do our PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) and got the interview on tuesday, and yeh, it'll be for science (physics). Mostly doing it because it will be a good qualification to have to fall back on but im probably going to go into teaching for a few years straight after just to get a bit of experience and money etc. Just gotta bite my tongue, keep my kool, and try to ignore the thoughts of shooting the little b*****ds!
  20. Lets be honest, i bet at least 90% of ALL hunters have poached. Wheather it be all out poaching or just a 'shot over the fence' at that all too tempting bunny. Just like i bet at least 90% of all drivers have broken the speed limit at some point. Not me though of course That may well be and I am not disputing it. But to write about it on an open forum makes us all look like a bunch of thieves and will give the anti just the ammo that they are looking for. For feck sake how hard is it to understand that??????????????????? :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: I give in, as I am

  22. Wrong, I'm afraid. It is only legal to shoot a dog as a last resort, while it is actually in the act of worrying livestock. You are right about game birds though. If they are penned, they are classified as livestock. If the dog doing the worrying can be stopped by other means (catching it and tying it up for example) you ARE NOT allowed to shoot it. To be honest, i assumed it was in the process of killing his chickens when he shot it and therefore it was in the act, may be wrong. Also just from what he has said the impression i got was that the dog would be a fiesty f****r if
  23. I like the way people are saying 'just a few chickens'. Just because chickens arn't worth shit to most doesn't mean they arnt to this lad, what if it had a bigger dog killing terriers having broke into your kennel, i think people opinions maybe different. Also, yeh he went one step further than the keeper did and actually shot the keepers dog but at least he had justification, the keeper had no justification for threatening to shoot his dog. Not saying i would have done the same, but in a situation like that you just act and unless i was in that situation i couldn't say what i would do. I sure
