  1. What if the breeder only has room for a certain number of his own kits. For what ever reason cant find appropriate homes for the excess (maybe just a couple of hobs that havnt got homes). The breeder has done the right thing imo by breeding to bring on quality new stock for the future, quality that he could not have bought in for what ever reason (perhaps he has very few ferreting freinds, even less breeding good stuff). Is it wrong to cull the excess at birth rather than just shift them onto any fecker with a few quid wanting a ferret? IMO i would cull and very well may have to next year
  2. 7/8ths sighthound!!!........ dont think they will be fast enough , lol. They will go like hot snot, certainly wont run out of gears!
  3. I think the main decision when breeding is 'can i buy in better kits than i can breed?'. If the answer is no, then breed your best being completely honest with yourself about the standard they work at, keep what you want, give the rest to worthy ferreters and if there is any unspoken for at birth then i have no bad concience about humanely culling them. If of course the answer to your question is 'yes, i can buy in better working stock than i can breed' then bloody well do that! But you have to be completely honest with yourself about your ferrets working standard! Too many people are breeding
  4. looking well, my bitch is just a shade under 24" tts and 48lbs. she looks just like your lad but smooth coated
  5. Well from that all ive taken away is that dogs shite contains harmfull bacteria! Did we really need science to confirm that? I think we all know that when dealing with raw meat human hygene is a serious issue. EVERYONE knows the risks of salmonella and e-colli with raw chicken and pork. I really dont understand what the big issue is? If its really that much of a concern of yours just improve hygene when feeding your mutts, wash bowls immediately after use, wash all work surfaces, pick dog crap up with bags and dispose of correctly etc etc... Or have i read all this too fast and missed the
  6. This thread reminds me of a piece in darcy's Running Dog Addiction, i think its called Nell. Good read and shows the lurcherman/keeper relationship and how a good lurcher with an owner with the right attitude can convert even the most anti lurcher keeper.
  7. Have you tried sending in a pic to a pro lurcher shooting mag like sporting shooter asking if anyone has seen this dog. As you say the chest pattern is very unique and surely someone will write in saying it is the warreners on his dvds. Be an eye opener to the public who rekon this fake is the real deal
  8. These petitions are almost always pointless, the government couldnt give two tosses about what we think or want. It just makes us beleive we have a say. BUT i suppose we gotta try to do somthing...
  9. So in conclusion all of us that feed a raw diet to our hounds are gonna die from food poisoning! I find this quite amusing because our collective experience seems to suggest otherwise...
  10. Bet it came with kc papers to...
  11. 2 of them are only really pups anyway, maybe next season they will be able to do the job single handed.
  12. Yeh, they are smaller than the ridiculous show crap
  13. Nothing is better than experience but a good book is David Harcombe's THE WORLD OF THE WORKING TERRIER, that mans an ambassidor for terrier work and to follow his attitude towards digging, terriers and your quarry is only a good thing.
  14. You go hunting and you moan about violence Are you for a second suggesting that hunting and violence go hand in hand?
  15. Advances in science are always good imo. If we were not to make advances in such science we would be at a loss when another nation does.
  16. A cat remains the property of it's owner until such time as the owner relinquishes ownership, or the cat becomes feral. There is no legal precident that I'm aware of to confirm what 'feral' actually means, so great care should be taken to ensure that you are squeaky clean before taking action to destroy a feral cat. 'Best Practice' which is what the courts use when making this kind of judgement requires that the animal is caught alive and scanned by a vet, and if ownership cannot be proved, the animal can then be humanely destroyed. Interestingly, there is an article in this edition of '
  17. Do you need a young protege to help with your burden? :showoff: :tongue4:
  18. Good idea but if the cats on the fence it wont be earthed and so wont get shocked
  19. Personally i think i would work if approached correctly. Selective breeding is no different to evolution only humans decide whats 'fittest' not nature. Completely ignoring ethics by selectively breeding humans based on inteligence and physical performance would surely create a blood line of more inteligent, faster, stronger etc etc people??? However with any selctive breeding programme there appears unpredictable bad traits, for example the bloodline could loose alot of human interaction skills or adaptability. Basically, yes we could improve multiple human traits but at what loss?
  20. Vets dont know feck all about feeding raw, just humour them and do your own research, as you are
  21. Very tidy set up there spiderpig. Functional as well as theif proof (as theif proof as possible). Exactly the same as what i eventually want when i get a place of my own.
  22. Would you salt the skin to dry it first? Or simple apply the 'brain mush' to the fresh skin once it has been scraped?
  23. I would seriously consider getting a couple of ferret kits this summer pal, i garuntee you will get permission for them sorted by the time they are ready to enter and if you are unsure about the ins and outs of working ferrets someone will come and give you a hand till your confident. Hell, if you go out your way to get ferrets and permission ill come and accompany you for your first few jaunts! Derbyshire aint too far away for me for a few trips. Owning and looking after ferrets couldnt be easier either. Before you know it the farmer will let you bring you lurcher along with you and soon enou
  24. Are there no shoots local to you then? Where abouts are you in notts? I could ask a few keepers if they want an extra beater, no promises though but if i heard of a space come up and you are a genuine lad like you appear i could put your name forward... Im the only person with ferreting permission on a fairly large local shoot as im the only one trusted, that permission took years to earn and im proud of how i am regarded by the shoot land owners, keeper and shoot captain. Its led to terrier work and lamping as well as shooting. The shoot i help the keeper on and have permission to basical
