Why? In my mind there are digging lines and non digging/muck about type terriers. The men that dig their terriers and keep their line dont tend to let their pups go to non digging men that wont test them. So how are we gonna loose decent lines because some people would rather do a bit of rabbiting with their terrier that wasnt even bred for digging? Who is anybody to tell another man how to work his dogs? Men that dig their dogs will look after the digging lines and men that bush/rat/rabbit shouldnt ever get hold of digging lines if the men that do have them dont get swayed by money and gr

Lads can work their dogs how the f**k they want and its none of anyone elses business! You will find the men working and breeding proper digging dogs dont let their pups go to people who wont dig to them and test them so all this "if ya dont dig ya terriers ya gonna ruin the breed" is bollocks! And if you buy from stock you know f**k all about and expect the pup to be a top dog then youre asking for failure! Its bullshitters and money men that ruin lines, not lads that just want to enjoy a bit of rabbiting!

Do many people whos dogs are at reasonable off season fitness anyway get their dogs fit through ever increasing amounts of work? I think it helps to have access to lots of decent lamping ground if this is the method of choice. Not that I do this, just a question?

Thinking back to my years at secondary school physical education/sports was a low priority. Football, cricket, tennis and some athletics was about it. Couple hours a week max! I went through the whole of my education having never thrown a javeline/shotput/discus, never played any contact sport, never so much as even taught about any combat sport (god forbid!). Do you honestly believe that a terrier does its job because it gets a rag at the end? Ragging means f**k all to them compared to their hours sparing under the ground! If you pulled a terrier out of a hole, showed it a dead fox, do you think that terrier would rag the fox knowing its true oponent is still alive and in the earth? Firstly I don't have a problem with game shoots. Just some of the individuals that bring shooting and the keepering profession into disrepute by their actions. Point is that the raptors take advantage of the artificially high population of prey items presented to them The same can be said of any other shoot pest, foxes, crows etc., that have been introduced or managed for mans pleasure and profit. So its just game shoots you have a problem with and therefore the ethics of controlling pests for the purposes of protecting game birds? Im just trying to get to the root of your argument. I've read the 'non native' argument a few times here, does that mean it is 'ok' to run a game shoot that only shoots grey partridge and hares and hence shoot spars and buzzards to stop over predation? Or is running a commercial shoot unethical no matter the quarry? Those of you that are anti bop population management, can I ask if you control any native pest species on your permissions to support you

At the risk of getting involved in this argument, do you agree with pest control at all? Or is it just the control of pests on game shoots you have a problem with. From where im standing, if a species population grows to a size where the damage it is causing becomes too much of a financial burden then it is a pest and culling becomes an option. Foxes, stoats, mink, magpies, crows are all pests on game shoots and farms depending on what the farm produces. My point of view is the only question to ask is "is the buzzard population locally at a level where they are in pest numbers?" if so surely a

Good post moll, I agree but I think it gets more complex than that. For instance a fighter will try to fight their way through the situation as it is just their nature, but surely they have an 'override' where they will walk away if the odds against them are just too great? Or will they as ideation suggests not make that saccrifice and in a near impossible situation fight to their certain death? Your probably right. Obviously depends on the circumstances. Like I said, I dont think any of us really know what we would do when faced with near certain death. Instincts take over. What those instincts dictate we do is perhaps another discussion for another day. I was just trying to rationalise/justify the mothers actions so she didnt seem as some careless/selfish person. RIP Survival instinct I guess. Nature often sacrifices young if the parent cannot save them. Just because we are 'intelligent' beings doesnt mean we still dont obey those same instincts when put in life and death situations. Non of us can say 100% what we would do in such circumstances untill we were in them. I would have thrown the kid, but then perhaps she tried and wasnt strong enough?
