Not quite as dramatic a change as some; 8/9 weeks 12-18 months Everyone commented on the colour as a young pup and how distinct it was and then one day I noticed it had all gone! lol. Like I said not as dramatic as most but deffinately a colour change.

Basic Advice Appreciated
Born Hunter replied to The_Oakster's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
If you can get hold of a few bales to break up in sheltered places and hand feed onto them it makes a big difference imo. Just gives the birds somewhere to scratch around in and work abit more for their food. Even if its just the loose stuff raked up and bagged. One of an amateur keepers best skills is to be able to blag all sorts for nowt and make all sorts out of crap. You have been given good advice so far, atb! -

I wouldnt be at all surprised if hes having all sorts of torture techniques practised on him in some secret bunker somewhere and will be kept in a dark cell for years to come by the yanks to have his throat cut when hes out lived his usefullness. What good is he dead? What good will come of the world knowing hes alive and in the yanks hands? As long as hes out of the picture Im happy. Gadafi next! I understand the yanks were a bit crafty getting Osama. The US Military arnt authorised to carry out oporations in Pakistan but the CIA are, so they seconded enough SEALs for the job to the CIA t

15-20, stopped counting after about 10. I dare say some were counted twice but still the place was lifting with them. Daft as hell too, practically shouting at some of them before they lifted their heads up to look at us! Sounds like heaven???..... It was, but it was hunt land and strictly a no no! Good rabbiting though on them hills.

I fully support a closed season after all, it gets bloody cold in the winter! Who wants to be out chasing vermin in the snow?

And looks are all that matter right? Its working pedigree is all that matters, the length of a terriers tail really doesnt make any difference. This season just gone I had a 5+ hour dig to a friends border/lakey dog that has a full tail and its tail knew no different, this dog works thick cover better than any terrier I have seen and still its tail is just fine. You may have tail damage issues but its far more common in spaniels than terriers. We all have the image of the 'perfect' terrier in our heads but its a dogs working ancestory that matters not what it looks like. your sa

It got knacked as a puppy by another legend. Tar. Reminded me of an injury I have seen from a dog running into an arrow. Bloody close to the eye! -

Whats happened to the pup just below its right eye? Im sure somebody in the know will come back with a cryptic 'in the know' answer... But seriously, is it an injury or what? -
3/4 greyXbeddie or 3/4 whipXbeddie....
Born Hunter replied to sighthound1811's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A 3/8ths beddy 5/8ths grey has always interested me, or something along those lines. But where are all the well bred beddys greys doing the job they were meant for? -
Magic! few cracks of his whip and he'll have em all standing to order. The future is bright, bringing on young hunters is just as important and rewarding as bringing on young stock.

Thanks for your reply I could fashion a feed area with restricted entrances to only allow the mallard through to keep feed costs down but my main concern is whether the geese will give the ducks aggro and make them want to bugger off for quieter waters.

How long have you seriously been burning to get a lurcher pal? I would say, give it a year, read up loads, try to get out with ya dads mate lamping etc learning what its all about and see if that burning inside you is still there come the end of next season. If it is then I would say you are commited enough to give a dog a fair chance assuming your circumstances allow. The only reason I say this is you are at an age where your life will change rapidly and frequently (believe me!) and to take on such a responsibility cannot be half arsed. It took me 5 years untill I could get my first dog, 5 ye

You did very well to hold ya tongue fella. If I were you I would have told her exactly what I thought of her as soon as she started getting disrespectfull. Ive been in a similar situation before with a busy body thinking she had power beyond her position, up shot of it is I phoned the keeper passed the phone over and she was told where to go. Always worth being polite as you were though, well done!

Its a disgrace she was attacked in the first place. Attacking a woman in a mobility scooter ffs! Not to mention failing to even pull it off right! These lads must really be some sort of retarded culls. Credit to her for standing her ground but wtf sort of society produces shites like these lads?

There is a major difference between the our modern western societies and the more tribal/aboriginal societies with respect to hunting. We in the west hunt for the sport/enjoyment and the ways in which we hunt reflect that, whereas those tribal communities that hunt to survive have no concept of sport its all about the kill and the carcas. Neither is better but what Im saying is our methods of hunting havnt really been developed to increase our ability to survive they have evolved into our modern 'fieldsports' to provide us with a sporting way of hunting.

Well said. These people banging on about going in for oil and all that shit.. If you don't agree with it stop filling your cars with middle eastern petrol. Stop using electricity made with middle eastern gas in your homes. Stop buying products made prom plastics which are formed from refining middle eastern oil.. The list is endless.. Like it or not, our whole way of life is dependant on maintaining a steady supply of oil from these oil rich countries. This is dependant on stability in the regions. Don't forget, we don't steal the oil, we buy it and in the process inject god knows h
