DD if that's what you believe of me then you fundamentally miss understand atheism and ignosticism. I have not and am not arguing about the existence of God. Why do theists make the assumption that atheists are ignorant and closed minded? That IS NOT atheism! An atheist is no more closed minded than a theist.

LOL...... your interpretation of the Bible!..... and for every Christian there's a different interpretation, like it or lump it.

Exactly mate. Pisses me off when religious folk judge me as a sinner because I have no universal law book on morality to live by. My morals are determined by my conscience and pride in being a good man. Some, like yourself, take guidance from your religious literature but you ultimately still come to your own conclusions. We're all in the same boat in that respect... I think it'd be foolish to just follow the 'rules' without questioning them...

Man can't be trusted to find his own moral standing but he can be trusted to find a good interpretation of religious teaching? However you come to your personal beliefs, make no doubt about it, they are YOUR own subjective beliefs..... man made!

In response to #1819 (my quote function doesn't work ) I agree WILF, I think. It's almost accepted as okay to ridicule someone on the back of an intelligent argument against their beliefs. Though I think once you're into ridicule, the argument is over, at that point it's a downward spiral to pointless bickering. However ridiculing someone simply because their beliefs appear to you strange or idiotic is, to me at least, a little too much like bullying. I just meant really to comment that attacking those that have a certain belief can have a couple of different motivations. Neither s

It shouldn't ever really be acceptable to deride anybody's beliefs, be they on religion/god or otherwise.... Yet it is accepted as 'okay' when those beliefs have had negative consequences on society. Some people feel quite strongly that religion has had quite a negative impact on the world and so deride theists as many others would bankers, politicians etc. etc. Beliefs are beliefs, it's okay to ridicule a mans economic or social beliefs but not his spiritual/religious ones? It's not very nice to ridicule folks full stop. But then there is a difference between making an intelligent arg
  8. Right, well I was one of the few that said I don't wear a poppy so I guess I should justify that... It's pretty simple really, wearing badges and the likes pisses me off, so other than for a specific occasion I'd not wear one. I remember the dead and living that served for our country and freedom, I respect them in my own ways. I always make my donation, I read and learn about the battles and history and I have my moment of silence and remembrance. Even now on my work PC desktop I have the background of a memorial of the 'Commando Winners of the VC'.... I just choose not to wear a popp
  9. Not usually, I just don't enjoy wearing stuff like that. I pay my respects but wearing a poppy isn't part of that. Only time I would is for an occasion, not daily.
  10. not nice mate ! I thought it was game over lol fooking it shook the whole county Not me. Saying that, Notts had an earthquake last night and didn't feel that either. Lol We had a crack of lightening few months back that set car alarms off, but I'd love to hear a sonic jet.
  11. A subsonic tornado flying low sounds like the atmosphere tearing apart, I'd love to hear a typhoon supersonic! The air force use it as a non lethal tactic in battle.
  12. If you go back in time and kill your own grandfather you would never be born to go back and kill him so must be impossible unless something more complex is going on like divergent time lines, alternate realities etc.
  13. Yeah exactly, that's what I mean, every moment in time there being a near infinite number of divergent time lines. So the effects of someone mastering time travel would be unique to their time line, they'd leave the rest of us. If that is true of course... LOL
  14. That there is only one time line and going back and changing history changes the future where you came from. But that theory breaks down because of the grandfather paradox and causality. So either my above theory is right or something similar orrrr time travel is fundamentally impossible.
  15. Depends on the answer to the grandfather paradox... If you could travel back in time then you quite possibly start a new time line from that point and in fact do not alter your original time line at all. There could be a near infinite number of time lines forking from the present in a near infinite number of realities and when you loop back you simply start another tine on the fork. It'd be one solution... and less worrying than the alternative.
  16. ......you are. I'm sure you'll get over it.
  17. ..... and if I was to be a pedantic twat, lol, I'd point out that the Commandos are only 70 years old, the Marine Corps itself is 350yrs old.

  19. I'd buy her all the drugs she wanted and she'd be dead in a week... I really do hate that shit.
  20. Look at you thinking outside the box! LOL Good call.
  21. I'll add ancient Sparta, to see how the civilisation that bred the greatest warriors in human history worked.
  22. Nah not paranormal, just unidentified... LOL
  23. No idea mate, the phenomenon is not well understood at all. It's just another possible explanation, though a rather spectacular one. I've got loads of shit like that kicking about my head. Lol.
  24. The 'Muhammed paradox' Islam provokes you to go back in time to kill muhammed to prevent Islam, which has the effect of you never going back in time in the first place. Lol. Back to the drawing board...
