There's a minimum legal standard set by EU law which everybody has to meet, which is where this semi auto ban is coming from. It rarely affects us in the UK though because we have such stringent legislation already. From what I have read through properly pro gun UK media (not the pretend ones that are happy with our current laws and attitudes towards gun ownership), the UK is fairly badly represented in this petition! We just hate liberty! LOL

I think you'll find it is in some EU member states. Well I never knew that! I don't have a definitive list but a quick Google shows that the likes of Austria, Czech Rep, Estonia, France, Italy and Serbia all support the use of firearms for personal protection. Czech Rep even go so far as allowing concealed carry. That's without listing the countries that have a 'may issue' attitude, which is generally a stance that considers personal protection more of a privilege than a fundamental right.

They are all very legitimate points. And I stand by mine, if you enter the sovereign territory of a foreign state without good reason you should expect a hostile response! You're right, it ain't religious, this whole conflict is a geopolitical game and this particular incident had nothing to do with the Islamic state. It was an escalation of the conflicting stances of Turkey and Russia on the long historical conflict between Assad and ethnic Turks in Syria. The Turks defended their territory forcibly after, I believe, numerous Russian infringements, I'd be a hypocrite to condemn that, no matter what I think of Russian or Turkish policy on Syria or the region more widely.

Russia ain't going to be attacking Turkey. What they might do is ruthlessly bomb the shit out of ethnic Turks in Syria as 'revenge'. That is after all what they were doing in the first place which led to them straying a mile into Turkish territory. Russia has repeatedly taken the piss out of foreign states territorial sovereignty in the past few years. In the last month alone they have been testing Turkish patience. 40 times since 2006 Google says!!! Could be wrong like....I'm sure you will know better than me. We tend to send a couple of jets up as a warning..... Not our sovereign airspace they haven't! They enter our ADIZ unidentified to test our response times but DO NOT enter our sovereign airspace. If a Russian fighter entered our actual airspace without a f***ing good reason they would be shot to bits by Typhoons.

I've read it a few times where our jets have intercepted the Russians for violating our airspace. I don't think you have! They have entered our Air Defence Identification Zone which extents well beyond our sovereign airspace. They are very careful not to violate this because they know what it means.

We'd let a foreign fighter enter British airspace....... Remind me of the last time a foreign fighter illegitimately entered our sovereign airspace........ What just happened on the Turk/Syrian border is completely expected. It's not ballsy, hard or foolhardy.

Just had a quick google of the plot, sounds cool. I love films like that that make you question life and existence etc. Thanks for the heads up. Interstellar is another 'thinkers' film. I hope it hasn't given anything away? Give it a watch you'll love it I'm sure. Yeah Interstellar is an amazing film too, how either of them didn't win any awards I'll never know. I read the whole plot. Don't worry, I always do, doesn't spoil the film though.

First Woodcock Of The Season

Our little shoot bagged the first woodcock of the season this weekend. Where we are it's very poor woodcock country, the most we've ever shot in a season is 3 I believe! LOL Neil, I feel your pain regards lost woodcock. Last season I set out to shoot my first snipe, having never really bothered before and with seeing good numbers in the boggy rape fields it was the sort of challenge that keeps this sport fresh and exciting. Probably because they're not on the Israeli border and because they are causing enemies of Israel a right headache. If the Israelis wanted to start striking ISiL targets they would have to violate Syrian or Iraqi sovereign airspace, which I have no doubt normally they wouldn't think twice about however with all manner of advanced jets flying about already, it'd potentially cause them just a little grief. JMO
