  1. It's a fair amount for a lad that doesn't lift though, especially a 'long lever'. At 11.5st I can pull 200kg fairly comfortably. But I have been lifting a short while now. If all we have been told is true the strength gains that lad would probably see with a regular powerlifting routine would shoot his DL up to 300 in no time I'd of thought. Maybe he's just a natural but just with tweaks to form and getting comfortable with the lift technique would see a significant boost in the weight, never mind any actual size gains and neuromuscular improvements which are the obvious factors in increased s

  3. Not if you wear over-trousers they won't. No non-waterproofs are pleasant to wear in wet conditions. Personally I've not found these jean type country trousers any worse than anything else. But everyone has their own preferences I guess.
  4. Unless I'm mistaken mate, The Hunt is a documentary series about the predator/prey relationship of wild animals........ not hounds.
  5. A dark Khaki green jean type trouser. I bought a few pairs from Decathlon. They're spot on and as smart as I need to be whether beating or shooting. A pair of decent over-trousers for shitty weather and I'm sorted. The usual performance hunting trousers from the various brands I find stupid expensive and often shite. Much better taking a layering system approach.
  6. Not that we needed telling that this scaremongering is total bullshit but for anybody interested in why, have a listen to this fella. When I have 5 minutes to sit down I give a lot of time to this man. He's a very respectable authority on protein metabolism.
  7. Who's born?...... where am I?.......
  8. FFS I've been jigsawing Ally chequer plate all weekend for a terrier box! Will I have forgotten my own name by the time I've finished it? LOL Can't be any worse than a lung full of asbestos from sanding artex! LOL
  9. Historically, plenty of dogs are reported to have been used to hunt wolves. But usually in small packs and with high hound mortality rates. You can kill just about anything if you fire enough stuff into it....
  10. Sorted then fella, maybe you should let the yanks know..... id imagine they already do know, not seen any clips of a dogo getting dragged off by a lone wolf Proof then, eh. LOL

  12. What Theodore Roosevelt had to say on the matter: "A wolf is a terrible fighter. He will decimate a pack of hounds by rapid snaps with his giant jaws while suffering little damage himself; nor are the ordinary big dogs, supposed to be fighting dogs, able to tackle him without special training. I have known one wolf to kill a bulldog which had rushed at it with a single snap, while another which had entered the yard of a Montana ranch house slew in quick succession both of the large mastiffs by which it was assailed. The immense agility and ferocity of the wild beast, the terrible snap of h
  13. You'll end up with a STI carrying on like that.
  14. Duncan Falconer's First into Action is a cracking read too. Some of the shit those 'swimmer canoeists' did in the 60s-80s was the stuff of Hollywood! I think you have to assume a bit of artistic license though, there's some confliction between reports of the same events. The SAS stuff has just never interested me as much.... I can't remember who's book it was but reading about the oil rig counter terrorism exercises in the North Sea really grabbed me. Also their secondments to The Det made for exciting reading. They aren't doing anything less Hollywood now. Insurgents in Iraq use

  16. Just another point on the national security aspect of keeping this production capability, we may have the skillset in house to produce steel now but we do not have the raw material, we still have to buy that on the global market. So even as things stand, a foreign power could still put pressure on our ability to produce steel. Looking at this a bit more closely, it's not likely that we are going to fall out with the Aussies or Brazil any time soon, so is it really a threat? But I just want to show that the problem is more complex. All this just reinforces my belief in hard power. We are a
  17. I get that, I do. National security! But this is how I break the decision down for a strategic view, simply how valuable is keeping the skill in house and how much will it cost us to do so..... Certain self sufficiency's are worth their cost in terms of national security. I'm not going to try to tell you the right answers to these decisions, that's out of my depth, just breaking the problem down as I see it. Food production, energy production, raw material production, arms production etc etc etc. We can be 100% self sufficient and 2nd rate at everything and as a result have indirectly weak
  18. Things got a bit lively between the two SF units in the Falklands when an SAS patrol unintentionally shot up an SBS patrol! I think it's fair to say that historically there has always been a rivalry between the two as they both encroach on the others specialties and the commander of UK SFs is usually former SAS. Our SFs were pioneers of their trade, they were THE best in the world and indeed the envy of the world. I think now a days many other country's have caught up with some very professional units of their own but It's something we should definitely be proud of.
  19. Just thinking out loud here but couldn't the government simply offer financial incentives to business in areas that it is felt have a weak economy, often as a result of that area being dependant on an uncompetitive industry? I guess simply a department within the exchequer that looks at the countries economy on a local level and applies corporation tax cuts to encourage profitable industries to set up there....
  20. "The only time this dude has been on amphibious operations was a booze cruise to Calais........" Classic Wilf! Cheers for that Johnny, my memory wasn't that far off. I thought his phantom unit was 33Cdo but it was actually 22Cdo.
  21. I had a look, couldn't find it and couldn't bare trawling through all the shite that baw used to post! LOL Give WILF half hour, he could probably do a reenactment. LOL
  22. Mal, how much would it cost to develop the necessary skiled workforce in house? I don't like it anymore than you. 50 years ago we would have been selling our nuclear expertise....
  23. Well don't then, it's no skin off my nose, LOL.
