With the signals intelligence capabilities these days I genuinely don't think that the man would have been invaluable as a source, I also don't think that the Obama admin' would want to risk such a scandal getting out, and they always do eventually. I wouldn't at all be surprised if you were right though. I absolutely believe that this John fella has been targeted and is probably brown bread as a result, he just seemed like a jihadi celebrity, a propaganda tool, not a serious player? But one thing that still sticks in my mind is why we never actually saw him 'do it', why was the film alway

I know enough about sport to know that what happens in training often go,s to shit when its for real .....sparring and fighting, completely different mindsets........but yes it dont hurt to get an idea though you,ll never put in what nature left out in my opinion.I agree completely, it's not infallible and almost every soldier that has to deal with real combat will tell you the plan always goes to shit but that's when being well drilled in how to make tactical decisions proves life saving. I'm not saying sparring makes you ready for fighting, what I'm saying is that if you are well drilled the

Whats acting sensibly......running down the road ?.......Bill is a bag snatcher by trade what if he,s a faster runner than Ben ?......the same space Ben has been trained to create Bill has been trained to close......how does he know if his lifes in immediate danger ? Ok then scene 2......Bill has Ben pinned up against the wall. Ben......" Look mate are you carrying a knife " Bill...." Why you asking " Ben " I need to know if i should take out my firearm and unleash deadly force " not quite gonna work is it. First off, I'm not a trained firearms instructor so just spittin

No because you will have been trained to not be scared LOL, you know as well as I do that training doesn't eliminate fear, it dramatically reduces the probability of that fear controlling your actions though. Simple as that then .....forget fight or flight response just take a scores worth of training and bobs your uncle That's the point in training, so that you are familiar enough with a situation to not be controlled by nature. It's obviously not without failure. Come on you must understand what I'm saying, even sportsman train to conquer the mental pressure of competition to stop

Too my knowledge in that Bill and Ben scenario any tactician would know, through 'training', to create space to give himself thinking time if the threat does escalate. They'd also know to leave at any possible time rather than engaging that threat. The only time Ben should pull the trigger is if his life is in immediate danger. Bill should never have been given the chance to wallop Ben if Ben acted sensibly.

True but it would dramatically reduce the number of fear shootings. Your training would have drilled into you how to respond to the situation. You don't know how you would respond now because you haven't been taught, every turn is new unfamiliar territory. Training would go a long way to preventing fear based reactions. Ps clearly I'm in the full blown Terminator camp! LOL

Not just the media, every bugger on here was fretting like hell about it! LOL. We were all supposed to be infectious zombies by now..... As it happens the British military took control at the heart of the problem and sorted the mess out. How did they do that??By setting up proper containment and processing facilities and procedures in Sierra Leone. The yanks did similar on a wider scale more broadly through West Africa while our forces focused on the core of it.Up until then international efforts were failing and the Africans didn't have a f***ing clue. You love our army mate eh....lol

I know you live in isolation and dont get to see much of real life but you are a sensible responsible chap......apparently. Im not......and i dont live in seclusion.....so should i carry a knife ?...... its probably safer for all concerned if i dont Gnash I doubt if you would end up stabbing somebody to death if you happened to have a knife in your pocket and you got into an argument .....No perhaps just a punctured lung or stab to the thigh would suffice.......cant be as a bad as a smack in the earhole eh.Mate if your a sound mentally normal guy you wouldn't even contemplate pulling out

Its nothing to do with sensationalist i only brought the extreme of Somalia into it because you brought the other extreme of Switzerland into it..... Bornhunter do you think that people should be able to walk the streets armed with a gun ?......as a responsible citizen should i be able to slip down the Rose & Crown tonight with a gun ?.........im not being flippant im just asking the question. Well it was sensationalist, I never said we would turn into anything, just that there are countries that have liberal gun laws that are not south America or Somalia, which is as factual a

I think, as is usually the case, this discussion is at risk of becoming a bit sensationalist. "The UK will probably turn into Somalia", "Children having unrestricted access to guns" etc. What exactly are we arguing for or against? Broadly more liberal laws on the use of firearms for self defence........ That leaves an awful lot of room for negotiation and compromise. Also, why is safety always considered the be all and end all? Like everything we have in our society now is because it's the most safe choice! LOL. In certain situations firearms will make society less safe, in others I'm in n

Why would it turn into Somalia? Why always use the worst examples of countries that have the freedom to use arms for defence? What about Canada, France, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Czech.Rep etc? The UK has some of the most restrictive laws on firearms and defence in the world and it's done nothing significant for our safety. Taking back responsibility for your life, taking back fundamental liberties isn't about throwing away the police force and the government, it's about resetting the constitution and what these institutions should actually be about. Some of us are uncomfortable with i

Whereas the society where a Police force provide citizens defence works so perfectly?

Why can't we be as 'bad ass' as the Swiss? Or the Czechs? LOL Got nothing to do with being bad ass and everything to do with valuing liberty and responsibility over 'security' and being looked after. I guess because Switz and Czech are not human dumping grounds like we are.......ive got more chance of getting a licence to have sex with horses than a licence to fire guns but id still feel slightly happier about being looked after by some form of security than hoping folk will act responsibly. That's absolutely fine. My feelings are different but I completely understand your view. Just don't

I'd rather live in a society where people didn't need guns for self defense mate Wouldn't we all.... but that's pure fantasy.

It would concern me a little that a 13 year old had unsupervised access to a firearm...... But it ain't my place to judge that decision and evidently it's a good job he did! Obviously he knew how to use it and clearly there was a need for that. I'd very much like to live in a society where responsible use of firearms for self defence is considered a right.

It's about time we as a society had a long think about how we judge our servicemen! Gone are the days when we had a war cabinet and deploying forces meant killing. We seem to expect these men we employ as killers (let's not sugar coat it) to behave as police in war zones! And then we judge them as cold blooded murderers when they respond with violence in these war zones! Very soon we'll have armed services manned by security guard and traffic warden types and when we actually need a true British vanguard to fight an evil enemy we'll be f****d! f**k serving a country so willing to judge

That's what I'd like to know pete and how many unarmed enemy were killed by the other side during the troubles? the 3 people that, that cowardly piece of shit murdered, were not the "enemy" or the IRA or Adams and McGuiness. they were innocent unarmed civilians taking part in a peaceful march for civil rights. the gallows is the only thing that c**ts fit for. You mean a court trial surely? Or have you already decided the verdict?

Agreed and you're a gent for being amicable. As always mate, it's been a pleasure.

Reminds me of a quote; "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither" Ben Franklin Though I do accept it's not quite as simple as that.

In 300 years we will be engineering our own genetic future..... hereditary faults will be predominantly solved in the lab, not through more conventional natural selection or selective breeding. The selection process, whether considered an advanced form of 'natural' or not, will be largely affected by us rather than the complex methods of nature.... Outrageous statement maybe, but it's just the next step on the evolutionary ladder..... We've been fighting natural selection for millennia, it could be argued that it's the nature of such intelligent species. That's possible not by any
