That looks a top day out SL......I used to shoot up on Islay every year which had some great ground and numbers but now shoot them further down the west coast and we have great numbers every year. They are indeed a special bird that gets the heart racing when you hear them breaking cover and are ‘the’ best eating bird.

Was it the lad in his bedroom who shot the cat and it pissed all over his bedroom carpet ........had me in stitches that one. -
Have had a spotted flycatcher the last two summers nesting against the side of the house. Local ringer ringed the chicks last year. I put up an open fronted box for them last year and they built a nest on top of it !

Make sure you go the right part.....think last year some of it didn’t have any snow.........long way to go with the kids to get off the plane and there’s no snow......no snow = no Christmas activities....

Yes mate , a lot of the birds are true to the same patch year on year, the same bush or base of a tree believe it or not. Some of the ringing lads recapture the same birds year after year on the same field.......have a look at the ‘woodcock network’ on Fb.......interesting....

You can buy all the gear online at snowdonia taxidermy. Nothing to stop you doing most mammals and your common birds. Any birds of prey will require an A10 licence. I’m told crows are the easiest to start with.....

If you were going to sell it you should have got on and done it without broadcasting it on here. It’s not yours, it’s theft by finding unless you can prove you thought it had been abandoned but you’ve already said not......hand it in and if your lucky and it can’t be traced you may get it back.....roll the dice, you may sell it ......what’s the worst that could happen......a phone call or known the door.......not worth the hassle ....

Seems to be good numbers about but there was last year at this time and then they disappeared in January when we had another few days at them. The lads in Ireland are reporting good numbers. Ive kept all the wings and when i get a chance will check them to see if adult or juvenile, should get an idea if it was descent breeding season for them........like you say magical birds !

Had two days up on the west coast chasing woodcock. Some good numbers about and between three of us we managed to bag twenty, a record for us. That was split between walked up in the day and a couple of evenings flighting them.
