  1. i agree with what the other lads say. but. with some of the hard case dogs ive trained at work i have them sit and drop, turn to face them with you hand showing "stay" with a check chain in it. when the dog moves drop the chain on it and say NO. take it back to the place and tell it stay. they soon get it. just thought id add, if the dog is nervous dont use this method!
  2. mate id feed her in the kennels, play with her there etc let her go in as she pleases during the day. at night when you lock her in just ignore the howling and it will stop in a few days.
  3. sorry for ya mate part and parcel of it though hope he gets better quick
  4. i was interested in the breed when i was in the UK after hearing of a half decent one used as a gundog. some of the lads out here use them as pigdogs, not a great out and out lugger but have a great nose and are tough as old boots no matter what the terrain. i think they fair pretty well when crossed with a grey. as far as gameness goes in england good ones are few and far between. ship one over from SA and you'll have a decent dog.
  5. dirt cheap defender have a bump on me mr taffybull. this should sell real quick
  6. i knew you were going to say that! i can't argue with that as i have a bull, grey x saluki, grey here! but imo the alaunt x sal would be too heavy as a first x. just my opinion though(same as in my opinion most first x bull grey are too heavy!) I see your point and coming from a family of bull x owners and i'm talking 5/8 bull i know they're too strong but could u imagine a 5/8 saluki/alaunt? Imagine after what i've seen this COULD be an awesome x?! what job would it be bred for though? hypothetically, pre ban of course! buffalo
  7. Merry Christmas lads and ladies have a goodun
  8. will you part exchange for a box of roses. ive eaten all the nice ones you drive a hard bargain mr ratmogit... but lucky for you ive been after a half eaten box of roses for a long time now.. :clapper: if youd offered christmas lights i might of chucked in mrs ratmogit. but who would cook crimbo dinner watch out for this man lads, he'll do his best to palm his missis off on any of you!!! :11:
  9. start of retrieving work with a dummy, and then use a rabbit skin around the dummy, then a dead rabbit. do this progression slowly and build it up. that will encourage it to bring back any caught game. i wouldnt of though you'll be catching many bunnies with a bulldog though and the chances are it'll be hard mouthed.
  10. some dogs react very badly to smacks, vizslas, salukis etc and if you smack them with your hands it set them right back for a long time. when it does something wrong take it by the scruff while saying "no" and put him outside.

  14. i dont think he was making a point about the state of the world but putting his foot down and saying that he wont compromise his belief to "fit in" and make people feel good. yeah people are getting shot up and raped and yes it is sickening but that aint what he was talking about. im no catholic but i agree with the fella. i personally think same sex marriage and couples should be made illegal. i hope i dont offend any queers that could be reading this but what sort of role model is that for the kids of today? no wonder society is going downhill, we've compromised on whats right and wrong.

  20. sickening ey mate. and the worst part is, theres absolutely no need and no excuse. you a copper?
  21. some lads out here cross them into their pigdog lines with good results but have yet to see one used in its pure form. they look much more like a deerhound than the huge wolfhounds you would see on crufts or whatever
  22. sounds like you guys had a great night congratulations mr longdogrunner!
  23. at work we've got a few mostly skittish that have a tendency to turn on their handlers if "it all gets too much" but one dog about 3 years old from dutch lines who would probably sire a decent litter. good dog for protection in every aspect never seen him running and turning though.
  24. good topic mate. my personal favourite would be the first time i ever took my bitch on a proper driven shoot. she was about11 months old i guess. arrived early and all the pickers up commented on how nice she was looking etc. after alot of waiting around the guns arrived and off we went to the first drive. the conditions were perfect, no rain, no background noise, just out of sight of the next picker up (incase my bitch didnt get it right!) anyway the drive started and alot of shots could be heard. the gun closest to me shot once then again - two birds downed one about 6 feet from us one about
