  1. well, the big day's finally here (tomorrow) and i can honestly say we (dog and me) have done no preparation or extra fitness/training at all! fortunately the 1st of the season usually has a few screw ups so maybe we'll just slip by unnoticed... ill take some pics throughout the day tomorra and of the end result. this is my retriever bitch ill be pickin up with tomorra, now 2 years old.
  2. haha mate, id take my hat off to that man!!!!
  3. to be honest lads the best ive seen was a deerhound/grey. i aint seen too many bull x's or wheaton x's but they seem get ranked well. deerhounds have crackin feet and coats as well, not to mention endless stamina and endurance. how do the bullys compare out of interest?
  4. try to say that to my dad IM 13!!! i think he was talkin about the dog...lol
  5. nice lookin bitch mate, has she seen any work? cant have her at the moment but looks proper nice
  6. thanks for the replies lads thats a shame ay, i really liked readin his posts and learnin from that crazed (but yeh, hopelessly sane) ditchshitter. still, i spose we can all cross our fingers
  7. Lads n ladies im signed to to the RM's and i personally and alot of my mates know boys who've been injured in combat through various things and i for one know that this is a VERY worthy cause to donate money to... not that im biast.. heres a pic of me in selection edited to add: im on the left the other lads me mate leggsy who failed
  8. You want something which will sit patiently at your side whilst your shooting pigeons sprocker cocker or ess aint the dog for you ..Labrador retriever... Regards Steve in fairness spaniels are harder to train steadiness-wise but not impossible. the one im workin with at the minute is as steady as my retriever.
  9. im assumin you want it pickin up not beating? if so your best bet would be a rabbit pen, not difficult to make just a simple mesh type surrounding fence in a square or circle with a few fence posts to support it. the drill is once you got bunnies inside, to walk with your dog to heel at ALL times when walkin past it. practise this till you got it spot on it may be best if you use a lead to start off with. i had the same problem with a cocker/springer bitch im training but it aint impossible to fix.
  10. after a rather long break from this site (not by choice) im seeing no posts or topics from DitchShitter... where is the old irishman whos posts i loved readin so much??? matt
  11. ah right.. is it the same with all falcons/hawks etc you should only let them hunt for one thing in a session or are there birds that you can spend a few hours hunting multiple things? matt
  12. nice one mate, cheers! must be pretty smart birds to remember the reward they will be recieving. (if you see what i mean.)
  13. heres a very dumb question that i couldnt find an answer to in the FAQ section. ive never really done any falconry but have always wondered how you get a bird with all its natural instincts to come back to you when its caught something, OR to let you find it and pick it up???
  14. i personally really like salukis and their x's but i think their bad press aint because they're thick but more because people see their aloofness and sometimes flightiness as lacking intelligence - clearly they've never seen one predict a turn when coursing and turn as sson as their quarry does. just my two pence
  15. no longer have a lurcher or in fact any running dog for that matter, but ive taken my gundogs out a fair bit to pick up the bunnies and the spaniel has had a few just by coursin em or catching in deep cover. where abouts you boys based then? im nr liskeard, s/e cornwall. matt
  16. gorgeous dogs Frank how easily do saluki's get injured compared to greyhounds? are they as delicate?
  17. So what are you saying, remove every post that doesn't relate to hunting (the mods will be busy) or just ones where people are selling pups?. im saying of course it's going to irritate people when its definately not to do with hunting in any way, shape or form. he knowingly posted this thread on the BULL BREEDS section of a HUNTING website. im not saying remove any post that doesn't directly relate to hunting but this is going against alot of what the lads on here (myself included) stand for, ie breeding for form over function, selling the pups at an unnecessary profit and not even sugg

  20. just realised i must have come across a tad... ungracious? didnt mean to at all, i appreciate the site very much, just trying to think of ways to possibly improve
  21. Been mulling this over in my head and cant understand why we "thehuntinglife" (well, Ian really) doesnt set up, perhaps on the home page, a section where breeds of hunting dogs are profiled by the best authority of them on this site. surely this would help people new to thee sport and even oldtime hunters after abit more info on a particular breed or cross? i know there are articles (not enough!) on the different forms of hunting, but methinks this would be a welcomed asset to the site. JMO of course
  22. could a MOD please remove this thread as it is firstly a classified ad that if allowed on this forum at all should be in the classified section and secondly has absolutely noting to do with hunting. as far as jumping down the guys throat goes ~ i fairness, what was he expecting? a pat on the back for being one of the horde who are the downfall of the breed as workers? NO! if noone else does i'll be the first to jump down someones throat for breeding for form without a thought for function. why why why?! Kris; this is a hunting forum, where people passionate about working their bull br
