The only braid i use for barbel is suffix stealth skin or sheath skin or whatever they are calling it this week . Ive been using it for years in 15lb on the ribble and had loads of barbel into doubles on it with no problems

It's not known as the rubble for nothing . People like Eric Edwards and Dave lumb reckon it's the snaggiest river in England .

If your still looking for one give anglers den in darwen a ring on 01254 706713 . I've just been in and he's got 3 for sale that he's serviced . Bottom left at £30 and the other 2 at £40 each with a spare spool.

Not a fan of Abu multis , I've had 5501 , 6501 c3s and 6601 c4s and I've got a 5601 jb edition and they are a bit agricultural compared to even a basic 301-401 size shimano corvalus. I do like their closed face feels though and would have them over the daiwa versions any day . Fairplay, I've never been lucky enough to use a Shimano multi, they looked the dog's b's. I had some Shakespeare ones that were naff other than a gold lure one that I can't remember the name of. Had a 6500 level wind on a jerkbait rod that was bliss. If you ever get a chance to use one , take it , id be confident yo

Cant see the appeal of the old mitchells myself , had them back in the day and they were not bad but time and technology move on and theres just no comparison with a modern shimano and like you they are the only fixed spool reels i will use . Theres a mk2 507 out now but dont know if it will be anygood , the mk2 506 gets a few bad reviews but mines been ok . Id rather have my old 501s back though

I was watching them after started this post. They look spot on. Nothing seems to stick to them either. Im only guna take her overnight to start with so they seem perfect for what Im after so could do some supper and breakfast sarnies. Have you got one? I have the xl one and its brilliant . I only do toasties on it but my mates do allsorts on theirs and as long as you keep the heat low they dont burn and they really are non stick

Have a look at the ridgemonkey toasty makers , they are awsome . You can make anything in them (have a look at ridgemonkey on youtube) and they are not too dear at about 16 for the standard one and 25 for the xl version . As for kettles just get a trangia one from go outdoors and you wont get hit with the carp tax from a tackle shop for the same thing with fox or trakker written on it

One or two of my club still waters still have the traditional close season and a couple more shut for a month usually may/june time but 99% of them are open year round . Its been like that for a years now . The rivers are shut to coarse fishing as it always has been though

OK, next question.. These known mug fish, are they piling on the weight? are they mug fish due to their appetite? Treecreepers double catch of the same fish putting on a 1/5th of its weight in a year !!! They were stocked at about half lb to a lb a few years earlier so it was feeding well , probably due to the competition for food with all the other carp in a small lodge . They ended up going well into doubles with a few 20s so they were took out and it was restocked with small ones again but they havent done aswell this time round
-
I had the same 5lb carp twice in 2 casts on a small club water when i used to pole fish . It had a bit of a kink in its back above its tail and was easily identified .It was known as a mug fish , nearly everyone who fished there had caught the fish . Ive also had the same 20lb+ pike twice in 3 days . Got it the first time at 24lb and 3 days later i had 2 20s at the same time when 2 of my margin rods went and 1 of them was the same fish at 23.12 , you could tell it was the same one because of a scar near its tail and also the spot pattern near the tail from comparing the photos

Maize is a staple, id use tigers more if I could get them reasonable local as ive done well in the past on it. For baiting up used pigeon conditioner, but the chub and bream probably eat most of it. Ive got a load of tree chippings slowly composting, full of rose chaffers, gonna give them a whirl I think. Theirs enough of them to add to pre-baiting too. Hook full of maggots for cruising fish, anyone use maggots hooks? I used to use redband pigeon conditioner , it had a whiff off aniseed about it and it did alright with tigers over the top . Also used groats alot aswell in the spod mix

Corn , maize , tigers or brazils over hemp will catch plenty of carp . Dynamite are doing hemp and snails in tins aswell and if you get the specimen one you can use the snail as an hookbait

Getting Prepared For June 16Th Already
neil r replied to ryaldinhio's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Got a bonus coming in June that the Mrs doesn't know about so going to get either an 11ft or 12ft 2lb Harrison torrix if I can get one from a shop without having it custom made and a shimano 6000 x aero baitrunner to go with it for the new season . Thinking of a 15ft stick rod aswell , either the tricast John allerton or drennan match pro ultralight -
Trout seasons only started in March when the coarse season ends
-
Thanks , ill have a look on their site . Was the fishing gurus bit on the wye filmed on their stretches
-
Dont let the waiting list put you off , they say 3 years but my mates and me only had to wait 18 months . Its a pain having to go to the induction meeting but once your in your laughing and for £120 there cant be many better value tickets about . How does that wye and usk thing work
-
Prince Albert run them . They are a massive club with about 280 waters from the Wye to the lidle in the Scottish borders and loads of stretches on the rivers I mentioned a few posts back
-
Was watching charlyfarly on YouTube a couple of days back doing a walk round on on cundal lodge and hall , only £5 a day
-
Thanks , I've always fancied giving it a go but never got round to it . We have one stretch at somewhere called the forge and another at huntsham bridge and I think there might be another one aswell but I'll have to look at the map book
-
Just been searching on one of my clubs forums about the teme and they are saying the same as you about it not being as good as it used to be so I think I'll swerve it and try a couple of stretches of the Wye at Ross on Wye we have instead
