Feinwerkbau Sport 127 Mk1 Original
andyfr1968 replied to ArkyElijah's topic in General Airgun Discussion
God, that's a long time ago!! From memory I think the only real difference was the stock. The Mk1 had a plain stock with a fairly undefined cheek piece while the later ones were more defined and had a checkered pistol grip. I had a 124 when I was in my teens and it was a lovely rifle to shoot. Handled better than HWs of the day, IMO. -
Over The Limit Brand New Guns..?
andyfr1968 replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in General Airgun Discussion
There was one well know importer of HW rifles back in the late 80s and early 90s who happily sold export spec guns in the UK. When you read in the mags that a gun makes 11.9 or 11.7ft-lbs just take a moment to think about that and if you've got something like chairgun on your computer then just see how consistant that gun needs to be to stay safe. Happens only too often. -
I've been after an stock for a while now, mate. How much posted to Leeds? Nice bag too Well iv got the new permission over on my rugby coaches dairy farm so will be putting it through its paces a lot more now! At the start of next month when it warms up abit we will have that day at the range if you fancy it with darryl and mac if they are up for it to so if you still have it then il have it off you. Andy I'm only up in Darlington so wouldn't mind dropping the stock of to you if your still wanting it for a trip out or shoot if you wouldn't mind an not wanting to sound to cheeky.

Hello, mate. I've not had much to do with .25 and the little I did was a long time ago but I'm a big fan of .20. I've always argued the toss before when folks describe it as the compromise caliber but I guess it is a bit really. It depends a lot on which pellets a gun prefers as to how they shoot as most pellets are a lot closer to .22 than .177 in weight. My HW90 loves H and N FTTs which tip in at a claimed 11.44 grains so they do hold a much flatter flight than a .22 would given the same power. I'm experimenting with Logun Penetrators at the moment and so far I'm very happy with those to

As an answer to the OP's question.... And to qualify my arguement with a certain dick head. Thirty five years ago I started hunting with airguns and .22 was the hunting caliber. .177 was for paper punchers and tin can cowboys. None of my mates shot so I had little input from elsewhere back then, just my Dad who was a weapons instructor with the RAF Regiment. Bigger is best was his motto. I kept with this school of thought for many years, my first proper airgun was an HW80 .22 when I was fourteen, loved it and wish I'd never sold it. I then left school and my first job was in a gun shop

I've honestly no idea, mate. Sorry. But like Tony's said, it does look pretty rough in the photos so not a lot.

Cracking post there, Mawders, and something that I find interesting. The main suppliers of spring rifles that are deemed as the flagships of the art are AA and HW. Folks debate about why one's better than the other because of blah, blah, blah, but the simple fact is that both makes are crap compared to what they used to be. Quality control's gone down the pan. Give me a decent 80s or 90s used HW or a ten year old AA over their new stuff any day. Also fair play to SFS for giving what sounds like genuine and honest customer care.

Looks like a Gem to me.

That sounds a bit kinky Andy. Lol The OP's post about wood and silencing gave me.... Well, let's just say it reminded me of other times lol.

I tried to make a silencer out of duct tape once but she kept on peeling it off. I'll use kevlar and super glue next time..........

Honestly, mate, anyone who knows which end of a screwdriver is the right end to use can work on one. They are a doddle to strip. I like the way Air Arms have gone about the building this gun. Keep it simple and make it work. A bit like an AK47 in principle but with a much nicer trigger!!

A Good 177 Hollow Point?
andyfr1968 replied to jandcguns's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
As above, stick with the right dome head for your rifle and you won't go far wrong. If over penetration's an issue then try a decent flat head. RWS Hobby or Bisley practice are a good start and will hold better accuracy at longer range if needed. -
Pro Sport Or Hw97K
andyfr1968 replied to tomospants's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Interesting thread.... As for gun choice to the OP. It's totally down to you and which gun feels 'right' in your own hands. They're both about as good as you can get. As has already been said, have a look at the TX too and also the Diana side levers if you get the chance. They make some very under rated rifles that may sway your choice. As for stocks, once again it's how the things feels to you. I tried Pianoman's 97kt and for me it was totally wrong. The pistol grip was way too small and set at too steep an angle. Simon also had the same problem and changed to the normal stock.. -
What mud slinging? Have I missed something in wonderful internet land??

Opinions On The Power Of Air Rifles
andyfr1968 replied to open season's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Whatever laws are in place, you can't fix stupid and the crims will just carry on regardless. It's always the case and it always has been that pretty much whatever folks are into it's always the dick heads that screw things up for the rest. -
Whatever bolt that may be, it's only rounded off because it's been over tightened or misused. Just use a little common and it should be fine. JSR do decent optics for the money. I've owned and used a few without any problems.

Me, The Gun, Scope Or Pellets?
andyfr1968 replied to bushing lad's topic in General Airgun Discussion
From what you've said (as above) get some decent pellets for starters. Resting on a sandbag's not the best way with any type of springer, it's too hard and it will make the rifle bounce around upon firing. As has been said, at least rest the rifle gently in your hand without gripping it and rest it gently in your shoulder. Siroccos are pretty hold sensative at the best of times so it's vital that the gun can recoil in it's own way consistantly with every shot. Good luck!! -

andyfr1968 replied to webster's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Glad you gor it sorted and I'm sorry I gave you duff advice. Most 77s won't take the spring but the later ones will. -
I've just recieved my copy today and after having a quick flick through I'm very much looking forward to sitting down this evening and having a proper read. It looks great!! Thanks, Miles.

This is where practice and getting to know your kit comes in handy. A day at the range is all very nice though.

Opinions On The Power Of Air Rifles
andyfr1968 replied to open season's topic in General Airgun Discussion
And on top of all that's been said so far, any muppet can buy a bow or crossbow that will easilly make well over 100ft-lbs over the counter, no questions asked. They use those to hunt elks and bears in other part of the world, FFS. 12 is enough for any hunting situation that demands the use of an airgun in the UK, IMO. If folks need more killing power or range then get an FAC. The sky's the limit then. I'm not saying at all that there's no need for FAC air though. I had a permission years ago that had footpaths bounding some of it's woods and the FAO wouldn't pass it for rimfire but wo -
I had a few hours out this afternoon and loved every minute. Well wrapped up and some snacks sorted me out no end. Only a couple of rabbits to show for it but it was just nice to be out. It was on a new premission too so it was interesting to see where the tracks were in the snow. A decent reccy and some food to boot!

V-Mach 80 Kit In A 77
andyfr1968 replied to webster's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Bad news I'm afraid, mate. It won't fit. The spring and piston in an are a larger diamiter than the 77. Try putting it in the 'for sale' section on the forum. Someone may want it.
