  1. Assembled by a local toddler group for the last ten or so years!! lol Just kidding, it's primary school really
  2. That's a very good question and one I'd wondered about too.
  3. I totally agree with all the above comments about modern HWs not being as well finished and built as the older ones but it's not an issue that's exclusive to them. I did a service on a TX last year that was only a couple of years old and had never been stripped before, took the thing to bits and it was totally dry inside. Not a trace of grease or lube on anything. Very poor.
  4. That's the thing with springers, they're a complicated science. It's not about the amount of spring in there, as most folks think, there's a lot more going on. There's a mass of piston being accelerated up a contained cylinder which has then got to compress a given amount of gas (air) through a small hole (transfer port) which has then got to give it's energy to a projectile that can be anything from about 7 to 16 grains (average) and then shove it out of the end of the barrel. There's a lot that can go amiss here, and that's where careful setting up comes in. Sounds like Halfinch is s
  5. It's got me beat then, mate. That really is an odd one but if you ever do get to the bottom of it, please let me know Sounds like you've covered all the basses. Wierd.
  6. Have you tried your other pellets sinse? It could be that your 77 has just settled itself down after a good few more shots, there shouldn't be that much difference. Normally (but not always) lighter pellets tend to give higher readings in springers. When I'm setting up a rifle I tend to set them up with RWS Hobbies first and then try other types after I've got the gun settled with those. It sounds to me that your gun's just found it's sweet spot after all's settled and happy.
  7. Here you go. They're not always the cheapest but they tend to carry decent stock. http://www.gunspares.co.uk/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=24578&cat=HW99
  8. I'd tend to agree with you here, Moxy, about heating and re-tempering the spring but most folks don't have the skill or kit to do this and in my experience with most of the springs that seem to be around these days they tend to break as often as not after this has been done. Maybe I've just been unlucky or my metal work skills are a bit crap!! LOL Cutting a spring is a bit gash, I'll be the first to admit this but so long as it's finished off properly and preferably seated on a stainless steel washer it should be OK.
  9. A breach seal can make a hell of a difference, sounds like your's was on the verge of total failure. Turning them round on HW's often does the trick as they're the same which ever way round you fit them but if it's started to compress other than just a bit of damage, it's best replaced for the cost. Spring wise from what you've said, go for one coil at a time but remember that if the gun's been totally stripped and re-lubed etc, it will take it a little time before it settles itself down to a reliable reading. Hope this helps.
  10. Joking aside, one thing that has suprised me with this unfinished turd is the quality of all the fixings and materials. There was swarf and all sorts of crap in the gun but the steel that's made all of the rubbish is all good stuff. Properly hardened screws and pins and decent quality pressings. Just a shame the thing's been thrown together in such a shiity way. Maybe they're not all like this, I don't know but if they ever get their quality control sorted they may even make a decent gun one day.....
  11. No it's fine. I only need the grinder to face off some of the cold weld repairs where I've slipped with my hammer!!
  12. How you didn't want andys message to read Simon. Lol Anything can be fixed with a lump hammer, stilsons, gaffer tape, grinding paste and some cable ties Now, where did I put that grinder???
  13. Cheers, Simon. It's as basic as a fence post and nearly as good looking but like you say, it's a tool for a job and not a bad one at that I'll fetch it along the next time we meet up but I don't think you'll be searching the small adds for one I've not been able to use Paul's workshop yet but I've made a start stripping your 97 at home. Give me a call when you can and I'll give you the run down on what I've found so far. It's going to need a couple of bits but nothing major. It's looking pretty good in there. Cheers.
  14. Cheers, lads. No pics, I'm afraid but Timmytree's one just about sums it up!! We've been out all afternoon on one of my permissions and the boys got on really well with it, I just had my eldest with me today but my mate Paul had his lad along with us too and he's also eleven. I've got to admit that the little B2 has really suprised us. Compared to the rattling, banging, bouncing, stiff triggered piece of crap it was it's now fairly acceptable for what it is. It's never ever going to be a good gun but for a young lad (or lass) to get to grips with the basics of shooting it's OK. I
  15. About three years ago I was given one of those B2 Chineese break barrel donkeys by an old girlfriend. The barrel was slack, the trigger was next to unuseable, it dieseled like smoke was going out of fasion and everything else was slack, crap and pretty much useless. It's been living in a cupboard, forgotten about until a couple of weeks ago. My eldest lad can cope fine with my HW90 (he's 14) and has had no problems using Pianoman's TX200 and HW80 but my youngest (who's only 11) struggles a bit with the weight and size. He's been using my Ratty but that's not been much use while the weather
  16. HEAR HEAR John!! (A bloody good shooter behind the trigger still counts for something though, eh!) Not biggin' you up Andy. Just a little overdue appreciation for what you've done for us. Maybe it's not rocket science, but it is a gift for knowing just what to do to what, and how to do it right. Roll on the summer hols when we can have the boys out shooting with us eh! Cheers mate. Simon Thanks. I'm taking Oscar out with me this Sunday to the dairy farm along with Paul and his lad. Should be a decent day out the forecast's looking OK weather wise, so finger's crosse
  17. Gotta say, lads, I feel like I'm being a little 'bigged up', so to speak. I'm just a bloke who enjoys tinkering about with springers, HWs and Dianas especially. Anyone with a bit of mechanical nouce and an understanding of what makes them tick can do it too, rocket science it ain't Thanks for the kind comments though, lads. Put a smile on me face, to be sure.
  18. All being well, Simon, I can use Paul's workshop this weekend so we'll have an idea as to what's what. It is a bit rough to be fair at the moment, twangy and not too smooth but the gun does shoot a very nice tight group as I've seen, so it can only get better. Call me when you can
  19. Give it a good few shots, probably a couple of hundred or so, and it should settle itself down and broacasting on an open public forum that your gun's running hot ain't a great idea.
