I have always thought that this could be a good cross. As the Collies herding instinct is developed from a hunting instinct and as you say they do point. Also they are very tractable so could be trained to a high standard and they love to retrieve. It would definitely be a worthy cross to try.

Ben you will be extremely lucky to find any a mate of mine has been trying to get hold of one for a few seasons now. Most are being sold off to Spain for some reason.

Do you know what weight she flys at??
-
I know this but I wouldn't like to risk it they are all pursuing the rabbit/hare whatever,I just prefer a dog to flush and leave the pursuit to the hawk everyone to their own.

Could be a recipe for disaster,I dont understand why people use terriers or lurchers with a hawk when there are much safer dogs to use.Any of the gundog breeds make more sense as their very nature makes them a better choice, a lurcher or terrier is more likely to pile in when the hawk binds to its quarry. A friend of mine worked his russell with his Harris for many seasons and one day when the russell was hot on its rabbit the hawk nailed it and the russell piled in.The hawk footed the russell and due to the nature of a terrier it retaliated and took off the hawks back talon rendering her use

Best Boots With No Budget....
Moorman 1 replied to patterdalejoel's topic in Hunting Boots & Clothing
The Altberg boots look just like the Blackislander boots they also have the same Simpatex lining.Thats a shame as I sent my Blackislanders back a long time ago as they leaked.Does anyone know if they are made by the same people?? -
Where I come from a Parson type Russell is just a taller straight legged type of Russell.Nothing to do with shows or money or rather it shouldn't be.I think it stems from the type that Parson JR tried to breed to, something about 14 inches high and 14 pound in weight. The only thing that should sway your judgement is to see the parents work and choose what type you prefer.

Proper Russells as the thread asked for not the modern white lakeys masqueraded as Russells, nice one! yet another pr**k, that thinks every rough white bodied russell is a lakie. I didn't say that you prick I said it was nice to see some genuine old type Russells you wanker. i suggest you go back and read your comments. your comment was ( proper russells as the thread asked for not white lakies masquerading as russells ) halfwhit. That is correct you once replied to me and admitted that yours were of white lakey type I think that you said that they originated from Gouldy's stuf

No it isn't...!! Sorry didn't read the other posts stating the same! The dog in your ped is Welsh Viper that was owned by T.R.

You can also take Deer and Fox with a bird of prey but not a lurcher.........!!

Thats exactly it,hawking to me is about getting out on your own with the hawk and tuning into it and as you say all the slips are yours.I couldn't be doing with field meets etc where everyone is immaculately turned out with all their out of the packet new gear. Also you find these Robin Hood falconers as we call them are always afraid to fly their birds claiming that theirs is mysteriously over weight for some reason. We used to go out together sometimes me and a mate first we would fly one bird and get it a kill then fly the other.I don't get all this group hawking also you can end up getting a

I hear that banded about by buzzard loving anti game shooters all the time. Any proof of that or just what your mate who did a bit of keepering on the big estate told you? Why on earth would a commercial game shoot effectively burn their profits by dumping saleable game produce? When with the demand for game and being a relatively large scale and regular producer of game they could sell to a dealer? Simply...... prove it.... On a shoot that I used to go beating on at the end of the day they used to say take what birds you want to anyone there. Then the JCB would dig a hole and bury

Would this have affected the situation described above or would the dogs instincts have still led to the above? I believe that the instincts would have over ridden the shock also its not fair to shock the terrier when its only doing what its been bred to do for hundreds of years. They are trying to catch the rabbit for themselves. Also in this situation it all happens so fast and usually in thick cover.

You would be far better off using a gundog breed.Terriers just by their nature aren't suitable, being bred to retaliate when confronted.I know there will be people saying I use one its fine etc etc but there are more suitable breeds out there.A mate of mine used a Russell for a good few seasons and I always used to say that it would end in tears and it did.The Hawk nailed a rabbit in cover that was being hotly pursued by the Russell. The Russell grabbed the rabbit the Hawk footed her in the face, then her terrier instinct kicked in and she took the Hawks rear talon off rendering and very good haw

Yes preferably Goretex lol,I suppose that you walk around with nothing at all on as your skin is waterproof..! Do you swim with a goretex jacket on like? .... ... Look... skins waterproof right? ... And goretex...works in 2 ways... It keeps water out... and also is breathable...to let air out.... and stop the inside getting damp/wet... By sandwiching that super developed material in between leather means that the air cant get out... and cant breath... And the inside will condensate... and get wet from the inside... Namely your socks... Defeating the purpose...

What a load of Bollox if they are Goretex then they will be waterproof. So if leather is waterproof why would they line them with a Goretex membrane?? because there are plenty of mugs to pay for it. leather is water proof fella. Don't talk crap.....so you have never got wet feet when wearing leather footwear??? If leather is waterproof why is it when the Goretex membrane has had its day that water comes through. Leather when treated with a wax polish or dubin is then water resistant, once the wax dressing has worn off then they let water in.
