  2. Contact Alithea Lockie she is on Scottish borders and is partners with Rory on the Brittanies.01450 373177
  3. Sounds like your going to be having a lot of fun. Can't beat a Harris for the rabbits!
  4. Sounds good although I prefer a parent reared bird at 18 to 20 weeks. All the best with it though. Now just fly a Harris. Sorry for the late reply I have only just seen the replies to your post.
  5. Good luck with it Dean that must be an early brood. What age is it?
  6. Here you go.http://www.finemeshmetals.co.uk/perforated-metal
  7. How about using a perforated zinc gauze?
  8. Nice going mate ;-) Cheers, I have put a great deal of effort into her to make her this season. I'm well pleased with the outcome she's great with the ferrets and works exceptionally well with the pointer. She can read him like a book as soon as he finds a scent she's above him, even landing on his back once while he was on point, because there weren't any trees around, lol. She had a month off during the season with a fractured toe so her tally would have been even higher!
  9. Just had my last day out with my female Harris this season, had three kills today. Flew her almost daily at beginning of season, then down to three days a week, sometimes only two. When I go out though I'm usually out for the day. She has attained a great level of fitness and confidence, as a lot of her flying has been at bolted rabbits on open moorland. Very pleased with her first season's tally 143 Rabbits, 13 Pheasants, 4 Squirrels and a Moorhen. 161 head.
  10. we have lots of peregrines around me but as far as I know I have never seen a goshawk before, funnily when the first pair of peregrines started breeding in the Avon gorge they built an observation point on the opposite side of the gorge for the twitchers, there used to be around 50 or more people up there watching them now you can walk into the middle of Bristol and there are a pair on the old courage,s building on full show everyday of the week, avonmouth docks near me have around five breeding pairs, it's a good era for raptors Its the same here Peregrines nest in virtually every quarry a
  11. There are a lot more Goshawks around than most people realise. There have been quite a few released over the years and the wild population is at quite a healthy level.
  12. Can be an excellent tool if used correctly. The dog must first be trained therefore understanding the commands. Some people seem to think that you can strap it on and use it to train the dog this is not correct. However when used properly they are a great asset to correct a distant dog at the precise time that it breaks the rules. Also people get the idea that you are blasting the dog with a high voltage electric current when it misbehaves, but when the device is set at the correct level it just gives the dog a gentle tap on the should as a reminder.
  13. You won't beat these boots made to be abused, these and lowas are a great choice I sent altbergs back they were leaking!
  14. I use tactical 5.11's wear them every day,had one pair for four years and just showing a bit of wear now.Very comfortable and hard wearing.I used to wear moleskins all the time until I found these. You won't beat them! https://www.nightgear.co.uk/en-UK/511-Tactical-TDU-Ripstop-Pant/52985ng.htm?colour=REGULAR+LEG+++TDU+Green
  15. They refunded my money as they said they were leaking, bought a pair of Dovres, they can't be beaten!
  16. They were like slippers straight out of the box.Very comfortable, but just sent them back as I had wet feet twice from heavy dew.
  17. You won't go wrong with it ,top quality gear!
  18. There can only be benefits from hooding a hawk.If you were flying in company and its someone elses turn for a slip its better that you hood your hawk than have it bating at every bolted rabbit and not releasing it.Also if you were ferreting alone and had to dig to the ferret and pull out rabbits from a stop.Or if something stresses your hawk like strange dogs, tractors etc.At least if its made to the hood then you have the choice. Just my opinion!
  19. Has anyone got the Altberg Stark Extremes or the new from 2011 onwards Black Islander Scratchless (Not Diotto's). They both have the same coating and both have a Simpatex waterproof lining.Would like to here from anyone that has worn either and get some honest opinions from experience. The black islander boot is a higher boot than the altberg. Thanks
