  1. More accurate than the Barryvox pulse in my opinion having used both, and the size is handy when covered in shit,no batteries to bother with and it can be fixed if need be here in the UK .Without the need to send abroad. Also my mate sent a new box back to Ortovox as it let water in and they wouldn't replace or repair saying it was his fault.Plus you can set feet and inches or metres and cm.In my opinion a lot of pluses and its purpose made for the job, shock resistant and waterproof.
  2. It was another mate of mine that made the T pin that you are talking about.I have both types and Barrys is far superior the swivel is nice and quiet and works to perfection. The T pin with stainless ring jangles about when you are walking and pisses me off. Also a bit cumbersome when walking long distances. These new pins are excellent quality and swivel well and there is nothing to clang about when your on your feet.I have been testing them for a while for him, also easy to push into the ground as fitted with a mini treadplate.Another quality piece of kit from Flying Fox.
  3. Yes but Dave You are talking about Cornish terriermen......1
  4. Had a pair they leaked first day out, sent them back to Hamish and he said that they weren't leaking.Had a battle royale with him to get my money back had to involve trading standards etc.I did get my cash back in the end but it took from Christmas to I think it was the end of March or later before he coughed up.Although I do have friends that swear by them...!
  5. Cheers derbylad they look good. The ones that we use are very good they are tight and designed to wick the sweat away from your skin. They also come in long and short sleeve and are not very expensive. Cheers.
  6. Where we work you have to walk very long distances over rough terrain, you cant drive out there. All equipment has to be carried and taken on foot. You physically dont have the capacity to carry extra clothing. Its different when your just going around farmland. You have the luxury to leave things in the vehicles. We do wear a certain type of teeshirt underneath that does help,it wicks the sweat away from your skin to a certain degree. But like I said when you are soaked in sweat and then could be stood around in freezing galeforce winds its no laughing matter. Hawkeye, all I'm saying is its no joke
  7. But in the Winter where we work you need some layers on.When your walking you sweat then when your in one spot for a good while your sweat starts to freeze. Not a pleasent feeling. Goretex is outstanding in the right circumstances.
  8. Goretex is waterproof but not brilliant if your walking long distances, you will sweat. Its a bit different riding around following hounds in the rain and walking the hills with a rucksac on.
  9. Boil in the bag, lol. Ok if standing around in the rain!
  10. Like I said its the best i've come across waterproof hardwearing and very breathable. We walk a lot of ground so needs to be breathable.I wouldn't swap one for a goretex.I have a swazi goretex coat cost a fortune but no good for walking in you sweat your gonads off.Excellent if your standing about in the rain but as soon as you start walking goretex is like boil in the bag.
  11. Try this http://www.country-catalogue.co.uk/mens/jackets-shooting-jackets/lavenir-shooting-jacket/prod_331.html you may be able to get them a tad cheaper if you shop around. But for the money you won't find a better coat.I have two they are waterproof and you dont sweat a lot in them.I have tried dozens of top brand coats over the years but for a waterproof general knockabout coat you won't beat them. Hope this helps.
  12. Hows he coming on...? I'm sure that you won't be disappointed with him in the field, I have had two males and a female over the years. The secret with a redtail is fitness once achieved they will take on amazing slips and smash through any cover to get to their quarry. The males can be quite surprising on pheasant.I once had a male pull a squirrel out of a hole in a tree,a bit twitchy at the time but all ended well.
  13. Yes thats right we did speak.Good to see that shes sarted to work for you,let me know how she goes.Like I said its good to see a Russell doing the job, keep at it!
  14. Cracking looking bitch there Stormrider is it from Darren?? Good to see a Russell doing the job if you get a goodun you cant beat um!
  15. Not meaning to criticize you at all just stressing that the expense of a top quality system is money well spent.I know its easy to say if you have the money though. But it will repay itself over and over again. And you always feel safer knowing that your terrier is fitted with a reliable proven set up.
  16. Wouldn't put one on a ferret. If you value your terrier then buy a decent system a good terrier is irreplacable!
  17. Meindls or Lowa are the best I have tried most I would never touch le chameau again total crap sent them back they replaced 3 times then I got my money back. You will not better Meindl or Lowa.
  18. I think someone dropped a Euro!
  19. You are talking about the Pieps,we are talking about the new box made by B & F the DLR, and its totally silent.
  20. you dont get cold hands from inside the 360.... I know but you do from outside...
  21. It clearly states the correct position a collar should be on the dog.It gives a better signal when placed on the side of the neck. The signal spirals directly upward and downwards when placed in the correct position. When its placed under the dogs neck or on top it sends a signal spiralling to the left and right so giving a signal in a much wider area. They tell you the correct position for a reason!
  22. It was made to a larger size on purpose. So that in wet and cold conditions when its covered in mud and your hands are freezing cold it is a lot easier to use.The software is much better its more accurate and none of the numbers fluctuating. The accuracy is superb,no more digging past the tube.Just straight down onto the dogs back. Its something that you will realise once used on numerous digs.A far superior piece of kit in my opinion.
  23. You have more chance of getting the goods with a Wheaten cross than a Beddy cross in my opinion.Don't get me wrong both can be the business. But I think you have a higher percentage chance with the Wheaten they also make a nice steady cross that goes about its work in a calm and thinking manner.
  24. I feed a lot of pork.Dogs get their energy from animal fat and pork is a good way of giving it to them.So long as theyre getting work to burn it off. They also won't get the sores that BD has mentioned if you give them plenty of bones ,raw veg and a variety of meat and offal.
  25. Raw meat, fat lots of meaty bones raw veg, eggs etc you can't beat it knocks spots of dry crap any day.Your dogs will be a lot fitter and healthier, plus lots more energy when working and harder to burn the weight off them. Also less waste to pick up!
