Over a foot of it here now and I have no option but to walk to a spot 3 miles away. Should be fun and I'll bring the lurcher with me. I love tracking in the snow but the blizzard is covering everything in seconds. Now where's my hip flask ???????????

Absolutely, you have to be paying attention but it's a cracker.

JMHO but there are some good lines out there who's breeders have only ever bred baying types to baying types and no doubt about it they are the hardest type to breed. The secret IMO is a good breeder doesn't need to see injuries to know he has heart in his terriers. Steady baying types can have plenty of heart and they often get more work done for longer periods than the harder type. But for a line of terrier to work as steady baying types and stand the test of time (not just one or two generations) they need a good breeder behind them with a good stockmans eye because heart is something that

A Hennie Muff, not my cup of tea at all. But he's well stationed and nice. We used to call that colour "Nigger" but that's not politically correct.

Like I say Donny, one of the oldest tricks in the book, LOL.

There's no excuse for bold children ever. If I was a passenger I'd have encouraged him to open a window, preferably up the other end of the plane.

Wheatens was that pic taken in some woodland ? I've noticed more and more Irish Hares lieing in cover and not moving unless forced to do so . I blame the amount of Buzzards we have for making the Hares change their habits.

You must have some patience Lurcherman, life's too short for that craic, . This years ambition is for most of my trout to be truly wild and most of them to be on the fly. A big bream on my local river would be nice too.

I've always said if the only reason I'd keep a dog was as a pet then I'd do some poor mutt a favour and take him out of a shelter. But mentioning cats and dogs homes there reminds me of a very well known Dublin dog man who back in the times of the trials had a line of workers who gained a nick name as good workers. Their common name was given to them by other dogmen as he used his own prefix but such was the demand for his line that he openly admitted to me that he couldn't get enough out of the cats and dogs homes to sell. And a lot of them worked too. Regarding getting a terrier because

A bitch killing another bitches pups is not uncommon in all breeds of dogs nor is a bitch eating her own pups if there was an outside threat such as another bitch looking in. It's an ancient territorial instinct.

Dogs are the same as foxes in that the end of the penis swells up and "locks" him into the female. It's natures way of ensuring copulation lasts long enough that that particular male's sperm fertilize her eggs and some other male doesn't jump in there straight away. In saying that, split litters can occur in dogs but not sure about foxes but it probably can. In the situation in that video if the mated dog fecked off straight away (I'll ring ya) and the other dog got in there and not all the vixens eggs were fertilized then a split litter might occur, but maybe I'm wrong. Vixens are fertile for -
Stickmaking, how hard/easy?
neil cooney replied to Parabuteos lad's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
You'll need to get a seasoned shank, cut it to the correct length for your dad and fix the handle and a ferrule. You'd be better looking at some you tube vids regarding fixing the handle even though it's simple enough. But getting a shank that's been well seasoned is where you're already behind for a stick you need in a bit of a hurry. They can be got though. You might have a stickmaker near you. -

A brilliant photo for comparison Leslie. Let's face it, you could put that pic on some of the shooting forums claiming you shot a 42 pounder and some would believe you.

Because I know the lad who sold them to you. Nice chap, very polite when you talk to him on the phone. 40 years of age and he started the line himself 47 years ago.
