    Neck muscle tends to be tough so cook on a low heat for as long as possible. Some people brown on the pan first, I don't. It'll be lovely.

    JMHO but the way that industry thinks nowadays is that money is more important than animal welfare. Vet docks a puppy at a few days old = £ Vet has to amputate a badly injured adult tail = £££. JMHO.

    I don't know about prime but I don't think a terrier is fully mature 'till it's three. Obviously they're all different (ie. bitches often mature earlier than dogs) but as a rule I think they mature at around three. As for prime, they're all different. I dug to a 9 year old bitch 3 times last week, twice one day and once a few days later. The same bitches sister was retired after 3 seasons. I've dug to 7, 8, 9 and 10 year old terriers that could still succeed where other fellows prides and joys wouldn't at 3 and 4.     Isn't there a colony of black Grey Squirrels somewhere in Britain. They're just a melanistic variety probably caused by inbreeding. Regarding Pine Martens here in Ireland ? The spread of forestation was already helping these very efficient predators and they don't need the constant releases by those who know nothing of the modern countryside. There is not a happy balance in any environment anywhere on planet earth when the predator to prey ratio is quiet high on the predator side.     I've never liked that arguement personally that the antis usually use when they say that the poor old terrier was only doing what it's master wanted them to do. I'd like to think that if any of my terriers got out and knew of an earth nearby they'd go for a hunt and not wait for me to give them permission. Terriers should do what they do naturally. When they do it can't be cruel on their behalf, if they're doing it because it's expected of them then possibly there's an element of cruelty.     It takes a real terrierman to get the most out of ANY terrier. The poor old Border was just unfortunate enough to have a lot of greedy clowns behind it. The old saying that Borders are slow to enter and need proper folk to enter them and all that is just a load of bullshit thought up by the peddlers as an excuse for when they don't work out.
