  1. The fact and the law is that in the R.O.I. the only legal way to course a hare is with Greyhounds at a coursing meeting run under I.C.C. rules. Simple as that. Hence hare coursing in Ireland is an organised sport and worth fighting for.
  2. dont cod your self neil the inspector will be appointed by gormley or one of his cronies and i cant imagine them showin any common sense towards huntin folk you can bet your life it will be some form of anti that gets this job I've actually met one of the men who'll be an inspector. A lot of people forget there's already laws regarding keeping dogs ie license and the general licence. Also there are rules in place regarding hunting too. i know there are laws and rules too neil but we cant take our eyes of the ball with this shower I agree 100%.

  4. I have to agree with Bryan, it's probably not to much to get excited about. The proposed bill is mainly to stop puppy farming. Gormless originally said he was making hunt clubs exempt from the bill but has since changed his mind and wants to include them. This is what has upset the MFHA. Whatever the liscence costs the hunts will pay them. But what about the lad who doesn't breed but like to keep a few bitches. You'll find that those inspecting will use common sense and can tell the difference between mass production and breeding a litter for your own use. As for all those who sit at thei
  5. Telling lies wont save your dogs. As they sell them on they'll say they're great workers anyway. Lad near me has had his terriers stolen twice in last couple of years and believe me they were useless. Security both in your yard and in the company you keep is your only chance. Some might say you might have been better selling them, at least you'd have got something for your trouble.
  6. I would only use Ivomec in an extreme case. It has killed dogs in the past and can damage internal organs. Get your self a good wash ie. Coopers sheep dip and a good wormer and wash and dose your dogs at the same time routinely.
  7. Does this mean that if we find a heavily scarred badger dead on the side of the road it's not necassarily badger baiters active in the area?
  8. As far as I know the government did a census a couple of years ago in Wicklow with the intention of wiping out the Muntjac but the census proved that numbers were too great. There's rumours of Roe and Wild Boar too.
  9. Pity all travelers wouldn't tell us of their whereabouts. JMHO.
  10. No way would I feed that mess to any dog, skinny, pregnant or otherwise. A balanced diet needs a certain amount of fat in it but that looks like it's or 90% fat. Also, a pregnant bitch if in good shape in the first place doesn't need feeding up or extra weight put on her. Just a good diet. Think about it, in a wild state does a carnivore catch more food while pregnant?
  11. Crafty Tessie winning the first year we went ,93 I think. Then was it in 95 when it was cancelled because of Snow? We couldn't get a flight home and were drunk for a week. Always great coursing.
  12. Are you sure about that Stig. Wasn't the great Mr Plummer a renowned boxer who trained great boxers by getting them to lift sacks of the 1000s of dead rats he used to kill. LOL.

  14. Congratulations on his first success and on your patience. He's a fair lump of a dog. Wheaten cross??
  15. Yes IMO nowadays the majority of vets are money grabbers. Just out of curiosity, why has your vet closed it's door to lurchers ? Surely to not attend a sick/injured animal is cruelty.
  16. A ferret owner "breeding" rabbits to feed his ferrets would probably be a first. A bit of a contridiction I suppose. My brother once rented a three bedroom house. He slept in one room, kept his snakes in another and bred his rats in another. He used to freeze his surplus rats in bags of ten and give them to his local reptile dealer. When the brothers account was high enough he'd buy another snake or tank. Escapees from both rats and snakes caused a bit of friction between him and his landlord, LOL.
  17. Fascinating, was the chimney out of use for some while or could a colony that size be built up over the Summer? Another question, is it true Beekeepers don't suffer aches and pains ?
  18. A large album of stolen dogs on the WWW would help. That way an English man might see a picture of a terrier he's been offered that was stolen in Ireland. Ever notice that the stolen dogs in the CMW could have went missing anything up to 2 years ago. It has to be instant and the WWW can do that. A lot of the terriers stolen in Ireland are being sent to Britain and vice versa. Especially through the well known Limerick dogthief who's getting a lot of his dogs from the Galway dog thief. But at the end of the day these pieces of shit are stealing them because there's a steady line of so called
  19. A well written book. Probably too well written and without a doubt helped put the black ones on the map. A few show men made their fame and fortune out of Plummers believable lies too. Nice photos.
  20. Anyone know anything about the test curve, B.S. and hook size ? If that took off you'd have fellows breeding 10 lbers and stocking their basements. Then there'd be bag limits. Then barbless hooks. Then bait restrictions. After 20 years no one would want to catch a 10 lber ,it would have to be a 20 lber with a name stuck on it being caught twice a week. Think I'll stick with wild mice on a natural bait.
  21. Melanistics occur in several species of wild animals. It's common in rabbits and occassionally in foxes. Badgers can be sandy, white and melanistic. Our Irish hares come white, pied, yellow and normal. There's a half white Jackdaw feeds on my bird table every morning. Look at Fallow deer ? Several varieties there. The main reason we don't see many wild white animals is because they're soon mopped up by the predators because they stick out like sore thumbs. We often don't look close enough at the animals around us. Some anglers could look at a trout and tell you what river or lake it was ca
  22. And here's to many more, you'll be throwing those spinning rods away. I remember my first trout on the fly. It was a 1 and a half pound Rainbow I caught using a wet fly fished on the surface as a dry, LOL. I hadn't a clue.
  23. Anyone ever see a large field with a lone Whitethorn in it and wonder why the farmer didn't take it too when he was taking the ditch out of it ???? Common in my neck of the woods.
