  1. £280 bags of bones and then to put pictures of them on the net. Makes you wonder about some folk ?
  2. How's it bullshitting if you don't tell anybody anything ? I also firmly believe that a lot of lads need company because they're afraid. Simple as that.
  3. PK, the trail hounds I've seen going were a lot lighter than most people outside of that sport would seem possible. Are they kept that light all season and are they expected to run every week (injury allowing) of the season in such lean condition ? What would an average seasons trailing be in number ? The ones I seen on a 9 mile run would have made your average Saluki look fat but they impressed me immensely.
  4. Funny enough, many years ago we were on a dig when one of the lads went into the hole head first (I know, I know, it's an Irish thing and I hate to see it too.) while another held his feet. Another lad leaned across and opened the upsidedown lads trousers and in a second the lad holding his feet was only holding clothing. In a second there was a half naked man lying at the bottom of the hole with a terrier and it's game running around him. Could've ended in a castration but luckily that didn't happen.
  5. Ah, most lads end a dig with a 12 gauge but he's decided to use an air rifle. Too small a weapon
  6. Morton, my post was aimed at Jeemes need to lamp in front of his mates.
  7. There is actually someone in that part of the country that's well known for setting people up but I don't think Mr P would have left it at an animal welfare center. He would have planted it someones kennels. Whoever did leave that poor dog in that condition should be put away IMO but I've a funny feeling they wont. It's probably not worth while following up such cases as it's not going to get enough publicity. The poor unfortunate creatures head is up and where there's life, there's hope and hopefully it will find a proper owner.
  8. I agree, another reason I personally like to see a terrier with a little bit of fat (not much mind) on it is in case the terrier get's stuck or trapped overnight or longer. This can happen anyone who uses terriers underground. One reason I feel that some lads keep terriers very lean is to help them fit. My advice to them would be to get a terrier of the right breeding that will be of the size needed in the first place. There was even a few lads here a few years ago who were purposely keeping pups underweight for the American market. They openly admitted to this. Ridiculous IMO.
  9. I hate to see comparisons made between pit bulls and working terriers. It's not good for terrierwork and one is conditioned to be at the peak of fitness at a particular time on a particular date. The other should have a level of fitness that enables it to work at anytime it's needed, providing it's ready for work.
  10. Everyone to there own but when I used to do a lot of lamping it wasn't about having witnesses to any good bags. It was about me and my dog being in tune together. I used to work them loose and I'd like to think I had my dogs fit enough that they didn't need another dog to give them a break.
  11. Yes, funny but I can't remember too much about the other programmes in the series but it was repeated a few times as I seen it a few times. It's a pity they don't show show's like that much anymore. We can't spent every minute of our lives in the field so when we are indoors it's nice to see how someone else does it, LOL.
  12. Darbo, it was called The Old Man of Coniston and it was part of a brilliant series about Lakeland characters. Am I right in saying he also showed his expertise in using dynamite ? Not for fishing but for blasting rock. He used an otter board for catching Char and maybe I'm wrong but did he tickle a small trout in a stream too ? It's year ago but I remember things like that.
  13. Absolutely. If your mate is a good man with a lamp and dog then why not spend this whole Winter carrying his rabbits. It will sharpen up your own reflexes and mind and you'll make up your own mind over the Winter on how you'd do things. But if you start your pup up next year with another man with his dog your youngster mightn't just have the rabbits and yourself in mind. It mightn't retrieve back to you knowing that another dog is nearby and it mightn't even come back to you. Personally I think lamping lurchers need to know the daytime habits of a rabbit before running them at night. There
  14. With those boxes because the squirrel has to go through two holes do you have to use a bait that gives of a scent or does curiosity and a normal bait do the trick ?
  15. It's completely up to you but if your after putting a lot of time into training your dog to a high standard which includes retrieving to hand and a quick recall sometimes, depending on your dogs temperament, bringing a pup out on the lamp with another dog can have a negative impact on him. JMHO.
  16. ???? That sounds like something you'd do while drunk, not the next day.
  17. Maybe I do things different but there's a big difference in entering a lurcher to a gundog. Yes, basic training is principally the same and this lad says he's done a lot of that but entering is different.
  18. Anything by Plummer. Only messing. Everyone will tell you to get out with your dog but I remember entering my first lurcher and wanting to soak up every single bit of info available, whether that was from hands on experience, advice from knowledgeable lads and not so knowledgeable lads or reading books and magazines. And you don't want to make a single mistake and get the best out of your dog. Best of luck. Scooby by J. Darcy is a good insight into the thrills and spills of rearing and entering a lurcher.
  19. But don't count on it Painter, your great British public seems quiet happy to believe the lies that his type churn out.
  20. You're not using strong enough varnish Columbo, LOL.
  21. Fat Man, some of the pubs we drank in over the years you'd be thrown out if you asked for a glass of water. You'd be accused of being a troublemaker. Anyways, the water would only be taking up precious room in your belly that could be otherwise taken up by beer. Hangovers are for nancy's IMO.
  22. Ireland, thee Emerald Isle, is well known for it's green and lush pastures. Ireland is not green and lush because of sunshine. Just thought I'd tell ye, LOL.
  23. He's probably getting paid for his lies but it's a well known fact that he got sacked for bad practice and as some of us have said in the Hunting with Hounds forum on here, if he has admitted to being cruel why is the RSPCA not prosecuting him ? The truth is that he's made up a lot of lies to try and get revenge on his former employers and it's a pity that a lowlife like him ever got into hunt service in the first place.
  24. Jellied eels ? Am I right ?
  25. Have to agree, half the secret to keeping a terrier fit enough for plenty of work is keeping their brains stimulated. Terriers don't like to be bored and a walk around a few fields with plenty of sights and smells every day will keep a terrier fit enough for a few days digging a week. Personally I hate to see so called keeps for terriers. Good food, good bed and a good life will make a well bred, well worked terrier keep going.
