How Many Off Yous Hunt Black And Tans ??

One of our local huntsmen loves them and then most other local huntsmen will tell you that they're too pig headed. -
Out With The Dogs Them Two Owls Where Going
neil cooney replied to top dog 1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Very nice pics indeed. I once bolted a short eared owl out of an earth with a terrier and he just flew up into a tree and sat there watching the dogs and I for several minutes. Beautiful birds. -
I dug to Bob once or twice with GE and he was very good. At the time GE had several very good workers that were mostly blue lakelands and if I remember correctly the blue came from a blue bitch that he got of Tony Lee in Dublin that Tony had swapped for a bulldog pup and sold to GE. He got several good blue ones down of that bitch and the few times I dug with GE it was mostly 8 and 10 footers usually with one hole. They were seriously good terriers.

No, I seen the dog several times and he wasn't too big but I never dug to him. I did however have a son of his and he was hard, too hard in the end.

I remember asking the owner of Johnson where he got the name "Johnson" from ? He told me that at the time he got him as a pup the biggest scandal in the sports world at the time was that the world record sprinter Ben Johnson was after being disqualified for taking drugs. Ben Johnson broke the world 100 M record in '87 and was disqualified in '88. So the terrier Johnson was born in either 87 or 88. I used to forget my wife's birthday and anniversary every year but when it comes to terriers I forget f**k all, LOL.

My advice to you foxbolter is to quit before you make a bigger idiot of yourself. Deprive a good dog of having a good life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So in your opinion locking a dog up for two weeks and then thrashing it with a pipe is a good life ???? I'd be having a laugh at you if it wasn't such a serious issue. What makes me laugh is that you made a half decent post on the Hounds forum and then come on here uttering pure cruel rubbish. I wonder do you even believe your own advice. I doubt it ,which even makes it more serious as some other idiot of your IQ might take your advice. A

No I guess they don't get shot, just battered with a pipe after you've locked them up for 2 weeks and then let them chase sheep. The mind boggles.
-
Pet or worker you pick a pup on temperament and character.
-
Are you out of your head or is such bullshit normal to you ? It's you that needs a belt of a pipe.
-
Maybe because you kill them all is the reason they're scarce ?

Johnson came to Eire mid 80s. He was brought over by Mr Nuttall himself and Johnson entered at 8 months. He was a son of BNs Micky. But, Johnson's owner already had a fell type in his kennel albeit a red one but there already were black ones over here by then. It will never be known what dog was the first black one in Ireland as there's a few lads who went over and brought back dogs un-be known to others and they feel that they have the right to say they were first. And who's to say they're not ?
-
No.

A vibe I get through this thread is that lads seem to think that a dog is broken to sheep if you can walk it off the lead through a field of sheep. A dog is only broken to sheep if he lost his quarry several fields away and can come back to you on it's own through sheep after having a hunt. Only then is a dog steady with sheep. As for the original dog ? I agree with putting it down. A dog like that will loose you a lot of permission, if you had any in the first place.

A legend. 97 years of a good life. Raised 4 million for charity too and seen it all. R.I.P.

Maybe I've been on a different wave length all these years BUT isn't breeding for colour and looks the main reason so many breeds have been ruined ??????

She has big boots to fill so.

I quoted the wrong post. I meant to quote the one where you said the wheaten would nail something. A wheaten terrier shouldn't be nervous and I'd be wary of one that is.
-
And she looks to be carrying some condition Glyn, as a youngster at this time of year should. I've never weighed a terrier in my life either but I do like a terrier that looks around 16 to 18 lbs weight but when you pick them up they feel more like 20 lbs.

Sea Trout In The Salt
neil cooney replied to perthshire keeper's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
That sounds just like the Boyne estuary near me. Fish up to double figures jumping everywhere but one or two would be a good days fishing. The fly is good no doubt but you'll need a line tray or you'll have 40 feet of fly line being pulled away from you. Spinning is what most lads do to get one or two. -
Nothing weird about that at, that's what wheatens are like and you should have known that before taking on such a breed.
-
And that concludes today's Geography lesson folks.

There's no need to be dipping dogs every two weeks. A couple of dips over the warmer months will do unless you have a flea problem (not you, the dogs) or run into a mangy fox (then you might end up dipping yourself too) and for 60 quid you should be alright for a year or two. Don't pour out your barrel of sheepdip somewhere that it's likely to get into a water course or stream etc. as it's a serious pollutant. For 60 quid share the cost with a friend and you'll both keep your dogs clean over the Summer or longer.

Some lads will disagree with me but I think you can do a lot to help make a good marking hound. Yes, a good marking hound is priceless and some packs are known for being a great marking pack but if you have good lads in the right place at the right time you can do a lot to help hounds be confident around a hole. I do admit though that some luck is involved.

We've all got a story like that I can think of a few myself, Neil this isn't aimed at you but more at the OP but there's a massive difference between hunting one hound and one hound on a hunting day doing a solo job. It's none of my business but I'd hate to think of a hound living in solitude somewhere. They really are a far cry for your average domestic pet/working dog Absolutely, hounds are very finely tuned for kennel life within a pack also lads don't realise that huntsmen don't bring out 17 and a half couple etc. because it looks good. A pack of hounds is like a jigsaw puzzle and if

My own opinion on the subject is that if you want to surround small coverts with lurchers and guns then mongerals bred for the job will do. If one of them is or learns to mark then better still. If you want to surround big coverts then IMO you need hounds and as many as you can use. But quality is more important than quantity. But big coverts to be surrounded efficiently need a lot of lads and foxes will get by and then that's where you need a man who needs to know hounds. If you're talking about proper hunting where you hope to use hounds to find, hunt and hopefully mark or account for a fo
