  1. My answer to that would always be......if we are going with the theory that the pedigree doesnt make the dog but the dog makes the pedigree.....then we do need to know which one
  2. They were slower smaller and weaker for that very reason.....can you imagine the Robinson/LaMotta series of fights with todays advances in training/nutrition ? They were unbelievable fights and they were men off the streets in physical comparison....................its like comparing Roger Bannister to Seb Coe......was Coe a FASTER runner of course he was......was he a BETTER runner not necessarily. We can only go off what we see,Jones was a better middleweight than Robinson. We can only guess how much better Robinson would have been with advances in training and nutrition, maybe he'd be kno
  3. Im sure you know all the old stories re Eli personally i think they all stand up.....the Maloney thing with Tombstone, again seems pretty watertight.....same with them Spike dogs..............can hardly wonder why todays dogs hold no truth in their breeding when the good ol boys of yesteryear carried on like that eh ! Editted to add......not to go off the subject of your pics.......fine looking animals
  4. errrr no can do sorry chief ........Yokel whats your views on Banjo and his sis being Mayfield dogs you buy it or not ? ha ha! god bless don, i think he should have left that pipe and cookies alone! towards the end, he laid claim to any great bulldog going... Yokel Well ......far be it from me judge either way......but when you take a long hard look at them it made perfect sense to me..........i guess some things we just have to shrug our shoulders at and leave it there
  5. but gnasher, some great things about being a feral kid in london : the allotments down at catford seemed like sherwood forest; you could have all sorts of fun hunting foxes and rats there as well as foxing on the disused railway embankments (used to be a good stretch from hither green to grove park) and, playing on the old bomb sites and scrap yards (all gone now, but plenty when i grew up). pram wheels for go carts, bicycle spokes for arrows for home made crossbows and the blokes down there might have a few ballbearings they would give you for your catapults we'd go out as early as we

  7. Right Fireman..........im going to put it on you now .....i shouldnt but i think you will rise to the challenge ! If you had to hazard an educated guess at why that is.......what do your thoughts amount to ?.......I mean surely if a season is bad for birdkeeping folk in general it has to be a common factor you/we are all facing.........swerve it if you like or you fancy getting them braincells working ?
  8. Bannister was a sprinter, Coe was an 800metres specialist, but I see the analogy and its misleading.Track surfaces and different shoes have helped, and men are bigger , but running is relativ

  10. Yep wasnt a bad dog that Banjo .....sister wasnt too shabby either
  11. Bottom pic looks a nice made bitch
  12. So what you saying then i need to get a paper round ? Nice little story that Tuffty ive got the enthusiasm of a 12 year old and the knowledge of a 3 year old !.......But i guess like you did you put what little gains in understanding we pick up over time and along with a little bit of luck it comes good in the end. Dont leave it too long mate
  13. My thoughts exactly couldnt agree more......although in Calzaghes case i think it was an unbeaten record he valued even more than money. Wasn't money an issue when they tried to get Joe and Jones jr together earlier?........but that could've been a case of good management aswell. Ive been told a million and one reasons why Calzaghe and Jones didnt fight im not sure i believe any of it to be honest.........when 2 big name fighters want a fight it usually gets made one way or another......look at the names on Jones record and compare to Calzaghes it tells its own story for me.

  16. I feel quite jealous reading some of this !! ...our days were filled making devious plans to jump the postman/milkman or playing 3 and in or all day runouts while trying to avoid the innevitable clashes with rival groups of 12 year olds off other estates .........................digging foxes, making dens and crossbows, lucky fuckers ! .....Enjoyable read this
  17. Come on Kev baby it was just humour......id get the lot done in an aftenoon but then i can shift
  18. He,s long dead now but an old fella a friend of my fathers Alfie Danahar fought on the Ray Robinson/Randy Turpin undercard at Earls Court he would keep us kids glued for hours with stories about Robinson......Alf used to sing a song before every fight he had Robinson told him he was a better singer than fighter Supposed to be just as immaculate outside the ring as inside Robinson,a real charmer by all accounts.
  19. Its such a silly comparison to try and make when you look at the record books Heres a list of the biggest names Calazaghe fought at THEIR prime Mikel Kessler Jeff Lacy Robin Reid Byron Mitchell Heres a list of the biggest names Robinson fought at THEIR prime Jake LaMotta ( x 6 times ) Carmen Basilio ( 4 times ) Bobo Olsen ( 4 times ) Gene Fulmer ( 2 times ) Kid Gavilan ( 2 times ) Joey Maxim Rocky Graziano Henry Armstrong Thats off the top of my head.......comparing Calzaghe to Robinson is like comparing Robin Reid to Jake LaMotta !!!
  20. big George didn't dominate his own era apart from ali who beat him? First time round Jimmy Young....second time round Holyfield,Morrison and someone else i forget who now.
  21. Tempting as it is to just pay up for a quiet life and be done with it.....if i didnt have much going on in my life i think id try and call her bluff and turn up at court .....my bet is they would throw it out.........well in for helping the poor mutt out anyway.
  22. Cheers Fireman/Tuffty i suppose being away for a month didnt help i thought it probably best to put all the Canaries back in the aviary with plenty of nestpans out so it made things easy for the chap i had looking after them and i wasnt really holding my breath expecting too much but i thought the Goldies might of produced something as id tried quite hard getting them set up properly but thats nature for you i suppose doesnt always go as we,d like..........i dont like being beaten by these things so as Arnie said...." I,ll be back "
  23. If people only gave advice on subjects they have knowledge on half the topics on here would never get off the ground !!.............Long as you make the person aware your not an expert i cant see the problem.
  24. This isn't true. Burley never got a title fight because he was ,black, too good, and his style was not fan friendly, plus for some of his career he was managed by Fritzie Zivic whom he beat but Zivic would not defend his title against him. Burley and Robinson's careers did not overlap by much.In1940 Burley was the no3 welterweight,1941 no5 Robinson no 1. By 1942 Burley was rated no 2 at middleweight while Robinson was still a welter.where he would stay for 9 years. Robinson was a black World Champion,Burley did not get the Robinson fight because he would not take a dive, Burley fought at all
