  5. the vast majority of keepers. take the majority of foxes with rifle and gun. upland and lowland. very few are keen terriermen. on a rare occasion you get a terrierman that takes to keepering. this sort generally get plenty of work for there own and sometimes there freinds terriers the best terriers ive seen are town bred

  8. good luck if you go for a plummer. make sure its bred from workers and you will get a better chance of a good n. my best on top is from the outcross stuff. its like a little hound. not much is missed
  9. for work above ground alongside lurchers a strong plummer would be ideal. they bay like a hound on scent. its a strong trait of the breed as is a good nose.
  10. truth is often stranger than fiction my old bitch maddy was dug to after bolting a vixen many years ago. she was laying alongside three cubs as if trying to nurse em she only ever done it the once and it was a few months after she lost a litter. best read ive had for ages

  12. i know an older version of that lad. likes to think he's a delboy. but in truth he is looking to turn a pound in everything he see's. even his workmates wont trust him you see money is his god. and he would turn his granny over to make a pound. luckily he isnt in to dogs

  14. a single handed dog to me is one that is reared and entered and is worked alone. a single dog generally seen worked by an owner who keeps his own company. his dog must enter single handed and then carry on throughout its career. the only help this dog will get will be from its owner. these dogs dont get bummed up much becouse no one ever see's em work apart from there owner

  16. her mum kept russells also. she used to show my old dog trusty. and done well with him. she used him over a couple of bitches and bred some nice pups. dont know if she still has any.

  20. it makes sense to try to locate without the coller as often as is possible. as they arnt infallable. but its a different ball game to not having that technology as i'm sure you will be aware. as has been mentioned the badger laws also played its part by taking away that test from many terriers. i'm sure there are some pockets of very fine terriers out there. but to say that terriers today are better is in my humble opinion a bold statement. so i am happy to agree to disagree. good hunting cs

  22. what a load of bollocks. mute dogs where nigh on useless. and rarely lasted long. and the only reason they are tolerated today is the fact that they can be found fast and then got to before they expire. and thinking back to when terrier work was an art form is not fantasizing its remembering the good times had with good company and good dogs. and when i was younger it was the same as today one dog in then locate it and dig it out. the only difference i see is it was harder to find the terrier so a little more was needed from man and dog.and a good voice being one of the main requirements. it w
