  1. First coat on new plaster should be a thinned down Matt emulsion paint but not a vinyl Matt, follow usually by 2 coats of a finish of your choice, pva will form a skin on the surface rather than soak in and seal the new plaster
  2. A lot of what's about today was obtained through the crossing of different breeds, you only have to take a look at the white dogs in cork for an example,or a lot of lines of black dogs with bull influence, the crosses haven't died away there still there just they have become lines/families of dogs, you don't get so much of the 1st crosses now as a lot of these crosses have established them selves now.
  3. You've got to admire A dog that reaches old age and gets to see out his days, retired after a full and hard working life, there's not many of them that make old bones.
  4. Had a pup with umbilical hernia, use to pop out, vets said it wouldn't effect him no need to get it done,I got it sorted anyway, didn't like the idea of him pullin himself through a tight spot and gettin it snagged on a root or similar. For euro it gave me peace of mind
  5. Starting them off is the easy bit ,it's keeping them going is the hard part
  6. I'm a bit embarrassed, Sam was bred up North by Billy C. who happens to be a good friend of mine. Billy sent Sam down to Pete in Dublin who then gave him to Macker. Macker then either sold or gave Sam to those who made the dogs name as a stud. I cant for the life of me understand how a dog with such a reputation passes through so many hands
  7. Dont no about the best terrier ever worked on Irish soil Smasher, loads of quality terriers being dug back then pal, in saying that Sam was a great digging dog new his job, dug him out of some shite spots and always had his game in front of him, he produced some great terriers too, He was a mixer type terrier if thats what game wanted, but if game wanted to bully him he could turn iron hard too, didnt see to many mixer type terriers out of him when crossed to Booths bitches back then, sounds like a sensible dog then mushray, that went through the gears accordingly,my type of dog
  8. Have often read that Sam was one of the best terriers ever to have been worked on Irish soil. What was it that made him stand out above the rest? Be good to hear from lads that seen the dog work

  13. R.I.P Tommy I'm sure what he contributed to his passion will live on for many years to come.
  14. The dog doesn't know he has a locator on, he will work the same way regardless,it's the terrierman who has adjusted his ways and moved with the times, for the better imo, having said that any terrier man worth his salt should be able to revert to the old ways if needs be
  15. Maybe the fox was partial to a bit of PUSSY.The demise of many a hunter, the power of the pussy should never be under estimated
  16. pitty about the bitch a real nice type, but always a hazard entering a dog to to ground this time of year, one cold day dont cancel out a week of warm weather, the ground acts like a storage heater and holds the heat,in warmer weather we always favoured the earths in shaded areas like in woods etc.maybe not the case here, but something maybe for others to consider when entering a dog this time of year
  17. The fact that someone took the time an effort to inscribe this is admirable, imo it shows he had not only respect for his own dog but also had the welfare of others workers in mind, hats off to him,a good chance the dog had no locator back then tho
  18. Source the genuine blokes, they will have the genuine dogs, and if they don't they wont try and pass them off as such

  20. i have known of a similar story perthshire keeper, my uncle reared a couple from pups down through the years amazing to see how tame they get, this was before the protection act of 1976. a license could be obtained to hunt otters in ireland for a period after this act, but if memory serves me right the packs agreed to stop hunting otters and instead all agreed to change to hunting mink as they were vermin and no licence needed, and like all good sporting hunters if the species was in danger they should be rightly left alone......here in munster it has been documented to have one of the healthi
