  2. I love days after the fox like this, wee also use spaniels and and crossbreds to hunt the covers out...nice pics lads and a good result!
  3. ... not the decoy compartment any game like pheasant, partridge, rabbit hare whatever, will work, but I find easier results if the trap is up against a wall or fence, have a small bit of bait outside the trap, and the rest in the two catching compartments... il often use a roadkill to good effect. Iv never used bread, but i can say that a fake nest with eggs is a cracker early spring, they may fall for it at this time of year... good luck
  4. Had a couple of 100% sightings myself, of a big black cat in Northumberland, edge of kielder forrest where i was gamekeeper. One in daytime while on a partridge shoot, it jumped a wall 50-70 yards behind me, and I was shocked to say the least... another while lamping, we saw a big one half way up a big tree... as soon as the lamp hit it it jumped from the tree and vanished along the river bank before i could get a clean shot. gutted. Also the neighbouring farmer saw one on two occasions, he wasnt keen to tell of it as he thought folk would think he was mental lol. And on the same estate, on a
  5. Yet another RSPCA total f**k up with animals, and as DEFRA they should hang their heads in shame.
  6. I have posted my experience of trying this on a few previous threads, but il slap it on again here... I lent a pure wild polecat to line my jill (which was a great worker) the resulting kits were shy and skittish, and nothing like normal ferrets, i could handle them, but they didnt like it! as for work, forget it! kept a jill back to breed from the next year with a good hob, still the kits were utter crap compared to my line of working ferrets.... needless to say, i gave up totally put off by the whole thing. This was about 13 years ago, and i blame youthful entheusiasm, as i belived the wil
  7. Those doves are not found in UK...but im fairly sure you will mean the collared dove, which can be shot, but the terms of the general licence must be adhered to mate. (which can be found on THL)

  15. its hard work but a great way of life....good luck!!
  16. thats what I dont like.. when people turn against fellow huntsmen for doing things differently... as long as the hare is given the upmost respect, not over hunted or killed during breeding season then good luck to you whatever method you use. I often follow the Newcastle beagles as well, great little hounds!!
  17. That sounds like very good advice to me... im in the process of doing this with a young bitch, and iv taken this onboard... my other lurcher of bull blood took to jumping like a duck to water, not much actual training needed. cheers comanche regards DnN

  24. Do me a favour !! Do you want the post code? Is not Exmoor good enough? Seen bigger in the wild? This ain't no park deer. Currently, stood up the tip of his antlers are 9 feet from the ground. If an average height guy (5' 10") stood next to him his shoulders would be level with the top of his rump. When he stands next to a mature hind they compare to a great dane and a cocker spaniel. A guy I know who has been involved with red deer over 40 years in this area has never seen a bigger one See http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/envi...icle6865411.ece you can put your handb
