The lurchers and spaniels are broken to ferrets, the terriers are ok if im watching, but, well.... i wasnt watching.. just glad ive got a strong team of ferrets this year.

Crikey it does look parched there, its nowt like that up here! Had plenty of rain here!

Well, the wind really picked up here last night, the strongest winds for a good while. Some old sections of a shed were lifted with the wind and blown accross the yard straight into a large ferret hutch containing 2 jills and 2 jill kits. The hutch was damaged enough for the ferrets to go walk about, and I was woken by the screetch of...you guessed it well unfortunately one of the older jills (not the best worker) met my young terrier, and one of the young jills was unfortunate enough to meet a patt/spaniel who then ate it! I managed to find the other young jill, and put her in another hu

id like to cross this saluki with a greyhound!!!!!!!!!
dogs-n-natives replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Why do you think we use the saluki so much in breeding the BEST hare dogs going?? And not just hare dogs.... check out some of the other desert coursing ont web.... some is crap, but there are some awesome courses esp the gazelle's, however be prepared for half a dozen dogs, and a dozen or more vehicles, even so, some courses are several minutes even as long as 10 mins which seems incredible to me for a dog in a red hot desert going that fast.... I love saluki's -
Gutted for you, thats a real shame... but hats off to ya for making the right decision... good luck for the future

dogs-n-natives replied to Tallyho's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I often get problems with one of my dogs... he loses some condition if worked hard, and starts to look skinny... I agree with the others that said LAMB, cant beat it for putting on weight fast! LAMB, LAMB, LAMB -
Read the article.... they are an invasive exotic species that are competing with our native wildlife.... no point getting all bunny hugger about if ffs, aww they look cute! See the bigger picture...... take a look at the grey squirrel, or the americam mink... or should they not be controlled either, i suppose they are 'quite nice' too right?

3/4 bull greyhound for stud
dogs-n-natives replied to meldino2005's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
. LOLsecondly your ststing that he has been well tested, yet you say you have only had him ONE month! I know dogs that have been out all season long for a few seasons smashing quarry every night out, and still the owners will not call them TESTED dogs. I dont get why you have it up for stud??? thats all.... DnN fair comment mate, i know i havent had him a great time but what ive seen and others have seen around here they said that i should stud him out. maybe i should wait a while and give him a proper test but im happy with what ive seen him doing and im sure others will be too. -
Haha class My mate is getting married next month, id like to order one of the bloke getting eaten by the shark LOL Great stuff
-
I was thinking the same thing Mr Poach.... the grounds not too hard up here, but could really do with having some heavier cloud cover on a night, hopefully tomorow will be better.

3/4 bull greyhound for stud
dogs-n-natives replied to meldino2005's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Hi Meldino, Nice looking dog there, i wish you all the best with him, but I honestly cant see any stud potential in this dog what-so-ever.... firstly his breeding is unknown to you, and certainly looks to have a good splash of collie in there(not that that is a bad thing at all), . LOLsecondly your ststing that he has been well tested, yet you say you have only had him ONE month! I know dogs that have been out all season long for a few seasons smashing quarry every night out, and still the owners will not call them TESTED dogs. I get at least 6 lamb breasts(ribcages) and loads of pork trotters, and skin and fat, plus a bag of off-cuts every week for nowt... most butchers I know have to pay to have this waste taken away now, and seem keen to give it away...

best food for running type dog
dogs-n-natives replied to old real tree's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I usually feed 9 dogs completely free every week. If I cant catch a load of fish il sometimes go and buy a load of fish from the docks which is cheap, as i like to add fish to the diet now and then. -
best food for running type dog
dogs-n-natives replied to old real tree's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Your asking what the BEST food is for your dog.... there is no competition a BARF diet is the very best diet for any dog. There are loads of threads on this so you will find all the info you need by doing a quick search, also try searching the working dogs health + training section as it has been thouroughly covered in there aswell. Hope this helps DnN -

Reflective "Lamping" Collars
dogs-n-natives replied to Strong Stuff's topic in Optics and Night Vision
I use a similar thing on my lurchers up here when lamping on the open hill especially in rough grass or heather, as when the course gets distant the quarry and dog can become invisible, ive deffo caught more vermin when using the reflective collar, as you can keep the beam in front of the dog easily even at a long range. When the one ive got brakes, which it will, as its nothing like as good quality as SS's ones il be getting one of these for sure. -
Mate, thats a harsh blow, she looked and sounded like an absolute topper of a lurcher... remember the good times good luck for the future all the best DnN
