When buying rimfire ammo?
SportingShooter replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
yes but you wont be alowed to hunt with it. Not so with Vermin, the only Act which stipulates that expanding ammunition is used is the Deer Act. The reason we are permitted to own and use expanding ammunition is for "Humane Dispatch" of animals (can't think of the Act), as its use was outlawed originally, then they realised that it contradicted the Deer Act and so allow it for "Humane Despatch". However, if you feel so inclined to shoot a Rabbit with non-expanding ammunition, so be it, as far as I'm aware, there is no legislation to state that you cannot shoot a Rabbit with non- -
As Sean said, nothing to worry about. Everyone can see their individual warn status's, apart from Moderators who can see everyone's. Yours is at zero, nothing to worry about there. Your warn status will begin to rise if you break the rules of the site, but again, that is between you and the Mod concerned. For now, ignore it. SS

Does your Shotgun work without the fore-end?
SportingShooter replied to subwoofer's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Most O/Us and S/Ss will function without the forend whilst the gun is cocked. However, once the springs have been released, generally there is no way of re-cocking the gun without re-attaching the forend. So if you fire both springs onto snap caps and then remove the forend, it is relatively safe and not readily usable. -
Topic Locked as previously requested. Shame some people can't think anything other than the worst about a group of people. Same shit stirring, different day, grow up.

.222 or .223 Which is best?
SportingShooter replied to wanderinstar's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I shoot and reload the .222 and I must say the Foxes have never complained at me shooting the .222 compared to a .223 or a .22-250, just more powder, more bang and the Foxes fall over just the same. I can reload the .222 currently for 30p a round with 40 or 50gr ballistic tipped rounds of some description so I'm happy for them not to produce a myriad of factory rounds in all specifications as it makes no difference to me whatsoever. The .222 was known in its hay day as an inherently accurate round and still is today, it won many benchrest competitions in the 50's and 60's until such cu -
36-52gr of BBs through 1/2 choke. Good for about 40 yards max.

Firearms Licensing Departments

South Wales Police. Sent a variation on my FAC in and it arrived back 8 days later. -
Didn't know he was ill so was a little shocked when I saw it on the news. Anyone tell me when he last played on TV/Public, can't seem to recall.

HOW ARE THE POLICE GOING TO GET OUT OF THIS ONE
SportingShooter replied to Night Hunter's topic in General Talk
I read the BBC version of events, which I am more inclined to believe than the Daily Mail any day of the week. It seems that the two shots from the XREP Tasers were fired by West Yorkshire Police officers, not Northumbria. It also states that a police force can choose which weapons it uses without them being approved by the Home Office as long as it is reasonable and lawful use of force, therefore whether Northumbria Chief Constable knew of their existence is irrelevant, as I can't find a quote from West Yorkshire's Chief as to whether he knew of their use or not. There is a great -
I had a ticket to take five through a local angling club, made very little difference to the 15 that were here but better than nothing. I suppose I was quite lucky in that they don't fish 24/7 here and they are as much against them as I was. The tree they roost in is just behind the lakes with a field behind it, so basically I found a hide and shot them as they came in, not one of them took less than 36g of 1's to kill it, sometimes both barrels of same, very tough old birds.

If ever there was a need for a Paranoia training school, this site would come out tops

Reading the reports on this guy, he seems to sort to either top himself when he gets bored or he'll pop up somewhere in front of an armed officer, go to threaten them with a gun and get himself shot. Just seems the type to take a final stand.

There are small holes on the ejector slides, you need to marry these up with the screws underneath. You will need a small flat head screwdriver to remove it.

In regard to Joint certificates, I can't say I have ever heard of one being in existence. Each person needs to hold a certificate in their own right if they plan on sharing security arrangements and using the guns alone. The word "access" is key to all of these questions. Put simply, if you have both Firearms and Shotguns in the cabinet and your wife only holds an SGC then she cannot lawfully have access unless the rifles are further secured by other means inside the cabinet, which is not something which i'd advise. If your wife had both FAC & SGC with each and every gun of yours

I see no point in discussing the Pros and Cons of this subject, it will only create animosity. Thread locked.

Well since it would be my job if i was in a police car then i would have made sure i would not have lost him and clearly showed the armed response where he was...........how do you loose a mad gunman!! So in amongst everyone shouting and screaming, cars driving around you, people running in the road, you expect to be able to keep tabs on one man in a plethora of streets. Need to think in real terms not in terms of emotions. Thread locked, as it will only degrade from here.

Blaming anyone but Mr Bird is just clutching at straws of who to make the scapegoat. Put it this way, if you were in a police car and you saw someone walking around with a shotgun and or a rifle with sights and your only experience of firearms was what you had seen on TV, knowing full well your body armour isn't going to protect you from the shot, would you be the brave hero and attempt to reason or stop him? The only option I can see for the police was to ram the vehicle he was in, even then you are risking more lives if you misjudge and miss his vehicle. He was a legal firearm/sh

disappearing dead fox...where did it go?
SportingShooter replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've had the same situation a couple of times. I've been offered a few explanations by various people. Badgers seems to be the most plausible, they are quite large animals and capable of dragging that sort of weight. Far more believable that birds of prey or even a big cat someone once told me -
Dyfed Powys Firearms Licensing
SportingShooter replied to Blacksheep's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If I were you, i'd try one more attempt at diplomacy and write a letter to the Firearms Licensing Manager outlining your genuine concerns. If you don't receive an acknowledgement or reply within a reasonable time, go for BASC.
