  1. hi coney catcher, the police have to satisfy themselves that you are trustworthy enough to have shotguns. they do this by making sure you meet certain criteria namely you pay the right fee, have secure storage, pass all their checks and have a good reason for your shotguns. as long as you satisfy this criteria they cannot turn you down. in the case of an FAC they ask if your referee has any reason why firearms in the house would be a problem, im not sure how this relates to shotguns. was your father turned down for offences? if so it will not affect you as they are personal to him. if you

  4. hi mate in my experience as a part time keeper the cartridges that drop the most foxes for me are bb in open bore nd number 1 in choke barrel, deadly! id advise to put as heavy a cartridge as possible just for piece of mind, your fabarm if in good condition should take mini mags up to 42gr in 2 3/4". express make a good 42 grm load. sometimes hard to get hold of though. 36 grm will do fine though having dropped many a fox with eley alphamax 36 g BB. distance is the only thing limiting you now. 30 yrds in my view is max as at this range hes dead. hope this helps ss06 p.s check before han

  7. thanks woz, you are quite right in what you say that the rifle is worth it if you like it. i didnt realise that the cz didnt hold their value. just have to see what happens when my FAC comes through thanks ss06
  8. Thanks guys, i reckon a new 527 is bout £450 new (gun mart feb.) and i know he paid £600 new for it and the moderator so i think i would be fair in offering him £500 for the lot. any thoughts, as you say ratman i mite pay over the odds for a rifle im used to. thanks ss06
  9. I need some advice please guys. I am going to buy a .222 when my FAC comes through and my beat keeper has offered to sell me his, this is the same rifle i am used to using for all my fox and very long vermin work. it is a CZ 527 varmint which has a moderator, is obviously screw cut and has a 6x40 zero optik scope on it. it is about three years old and hasnt done a great deal of work maybe 150 rounds and the wood has no noticeable damage. how much do you think i should be offering him? Many thanks again ss06
  10. As i have said before i hope to have a .222 if my fac comes through OK. can anyone recommend good ammo for fox in a CZ 527. i know .222 is not near as popular as .223 but is there a good selection of ammo out there? thanks ss06
  11. You might want to try the shooting times website, its full of recipes and theres bound to be somethin interestin for pigeon, i always put them in with a pheasant this time of year in a coq au vin sort of thing and come out delicious. or could go really old fashioned and have them roasted with peas pudding. hope you get some joy. ss06
  12. out of curiosity cramp what do u have a pistol for. nd how long did your last dealings with swp take like variation renewal etc. thanks
  13. yes, have heard a few gd uns around here too. a friend was telling of how someone shot a fox and a prize highland bull!! mind you he was being rediculously callous and using normal ammunition so it went straight through old charlie. plus a rich landowner who enjoyed shooting foxes with his .416 rigby which he had for african game out of his living room window. cnt imagine his wife was pleased! thanks again and sorry if i mislead you. ss06
  14. you are quite right, with an fac each rifle must have a good reason and a club membership or land approval to back it up. as i said clay shooting is a perfectly legit reason and your lucky to have such a huge amount of land. gd luck safe shooting
  15. hi jason, i had my first sgc when i was fifteen and had no probz apart from wait(because of reference from my school, apparently this is not essential, if only id known!) you dont need land to acquire a sgc but rather a good reason such as clay shooting , rough shooting etc. sorry dnt no if it differs in scotland but here in wales was no probz and also they cant refuse you if you tick all the boxes eg pass checks, security adequate, good reason and countersignatory is ok so dnt worry 2 much. only thing you cant do is buy guns nd ammo.yet!! hope this helps
  16. Sorry snapshot i shoud have made it much more clear! i have been shooting with a rifle and supervision for a few years both rimmy nd centrefire on my shoot with shoot members but am new to doing it on my own or at least thinking about it on my own. sorry to have confused you! p.s i have been told to send proof of this experience with application does this normally help?
  17. sheepworrier, i hope they are quick at the moment and i hope they give me what i wnt, a .222 and .17hmr and moderators but some have had all sorts of conditions put on their licenses. thanks again p.s anyone got tips for best fox ammo in .222?
  18. I am new to this forum and to rifle shooting and am in the process of getting my first FAC. some people i have spoken 2 have had a reel nightmare with South Wales Police not giving them what they want e.g wouldnt let a friend have a .243 for fox nd insisted on him doing 6 months experience with a rimfire before he could fire his own rifle!!. has anyone else had any trouble with them? Thanks (newbie)
