  1. Pembrokeshire? Why on earth would you want to go there Gower, now there's where you want to head On a serious note, the Gower is a very beautiful place and there are plenty of places to stay, the National Trust own quite a lot of Gower with properties that they rent out so they may be a place to start
  2. I can see you now John, tinkering away there and I bet you will still find a bog hole or a ditch that it won't see and you won't remember is there Watch this space for the bent rifle barrel
  3. My FEO was telling me the last time I spoke to him, that if you are refused a FAC/SGC then it will remain on your record until after your 100th Birthday.
  4. All of the game I shoot is shown in the traditional manner at fairly modest distances. I wouldn't raise my gun to a bird past 40 yards, not because I'm not capable of it but because the average of clean kills starts to drop past 40 yards, and we owe it to our quarry to kill it cleanly. I really wan't a fixed choke sbs and that's why I ask. @SportingShooter You use 7's and 1/2 choke for game? What ranges do you shoot at? Any range within normal shotgun shooting. Happily kill birds all day long at 40 yards, have gone quite a considerable distance further on many occasions too. I'm
  5. Most game gun manufacturers seem to consider 1/4 and 1/2 to be the most common or "traditional" choking. Never used it myself, always 1/2 and 1/2 with 7's. As mentioned above, its about finding the cartridge which patterns well through your gun with enough poke at whatever distance you're shooting at.
  6. Just asked a friend of mine the situation. The only marker for a FAC/SGC holder will be on a person, not on a vehicle. Therefore they will need to have your name and date of birth in order to check whether you are a holder. When they check the car it will tell them who is the keeper and who can drive it, so chances are they find your date of birth from some previous encounter or record and hey presto. When I ring my local police to tell them i'm going out for whatever reason, I get asked my date of birth as routine, so it would be fairly simple to get the two bits of information t
  7. As far as I can see (from the previous three pages of posts) the matter appears to have been sorted civilly. No need to keep dragging this out. Case Thread closed.
  8. Can't speak for the police in Lancashire, but its a load of B.S. from my experience. Never been stopped and had to wait for an armed response unit. As for telling them its there, if you get out dressed in wellies and camo, they may well ask what you've been doing. If you tell them you've been shooting, they'll know its there and if they want to do some more checks, i'm sure they will. I've still never had anyone call for an armed response unit for when i've been stopped.
  9. Only when its not true Matt :)

  10. My mate had a batch of Remington subsonic from Keen's and it was the same. Some were certainly sub-sonic and others were more like stingers. Did you find a zero shift between the two on the target (if that makes sense?)? The Remington's my mate shot, produced erratic grouping akin to a shotgun pattern. Have you ever shot a rabbit with the segmented ammo? Did the bullet actually segment? Thanks John Yep, the zero shifted by not far off an inch to the right and a half inch high. I find Remingtons through my rifle are a bit like a shotgun normally
  11. I shot quite a few of them at targets today for the fun of it. Most definitely louder, one or two even going supersonic. Accuracy wasn't too bad but for the loudness and price, nah not for me.
  12. I bought a box to try. Not overly impressed and to my ears, certainly louder than my Winnies or Remmies.
  13. It gets to the point LH that you are banning someone from chat, they return under a new guise and start again 10 minutes later. And again, and again, and again throughout the night. You can make it say 500 posts before you can go in there, but then someone else will complain that "We should get rid of the post count" "They're probably only 500 "Nice dog mate" posts anyway" You can also make it invite only, but then how do you set that up? Be vouched for by a Moderator or other members? How much time do you think that would take for each member when Ian and the rest of us all work full
  14. Not letting them get away are you DD But I agree, two bangs are more practical, particularly for those tough critters among the quarry list.
  15. What model of Yeoman DD and any other spec etc? The AYA tend to be very well made guns in my experience, i've shot quite a few of them, particularly one of their replicas of the Churchill 25" S/S that was a beauty to shoot. Made in Spain and replica English gun design in the main, but with the typical strong European build quality. Any idea how old it is? In any case, you want to make sure that the barrels are still tight against the action face, shake it by holding it at the pistol grip I find the easiest way. Then obviously give the barrels a real going over to check for pitt
  16. I've not long bought a T-Bolt. Lightweight carbine version, managed to find one. Its action is faster than a bolt action, no doubt and its accuracy no different to a bolt. I've just come back from taking mine for a walk this afternoon. Managed to nab a bunny with it too. Good value for money, with good accuracy IMO.
  17. Lampeter Shooting Supplies? Mid Wales Shooting Centre? Also, nearer to Keen's is South West Country Sports in Kenfig Hill. No gun shops in Swansea though, been waiting for one for years Lampeter! Never been there but saw one of their ads in a magazine a few months back and some of their rifles were very competatively priced! Aye, he tends to have to be, why else would you go to Lampeter Lloyd there is a nice enough guy though.

  19. Although obviously you are in the UK (just take that as read, don't want to offend!), your FAC is different to those used in England, Wales and Scotland. I have read conflicting things on both forums and other websites as to whether an N.I. FAC will cover shooting over here so my best advice would be to both contact your own firearms licensing department to seek their advice well in advance of traveling and also do the same to the department which covers the area you will be shooting in. It may be the case that all is well and you can travel without hindrance throughout the UK or ther
  20. Wonder where this is going... Case Closed. Sorry to hear of your bad night but at least you weren't tasered or shot
  21. After reading this thread, I'm beginning to feel in a minority amongst shooters .....that's if I listened to all of what was said here. Luckily, what is said here and what actually happens out there is entirely different, not every lurcherman hates the local rifleman nor do they meet up in the village pub for a pint and an argument. Ideation seems to have been well intentioned by asking a question, but that never ending dogmen v riflemen debate springs eternal. ATB Cynical Moderator (SS)
