  1. No that's not an AYA Yeoman (they are a 'nail' not a gun). Yours is no nail, and someone paid Westley Richard's about 5x the cost of a 'Yeoman' to make new barrels for it. Yours is most likely a Birmingham boxlock from the 1950's, I've seen 100's like it, but that said it's only worth £350>£500 on a good day, nice gun! Make sure you use it! AndyF Seconded
  2. Quite right about the Air Rifle or the .308, both can be lethal in the right circumstances Its a shame that all the regions are different and apply the law and regulations differently.
  3. I sort of agree but it's not a case of what you have a right to, but what you require. If you have a genuine reason to own a particular calibre and amount of ammunition you will have no problems. If you just fancy a .223 or whatever because it is cool and you want 3000 rounds for the sake of it (slight poetic license here) then you will have to justify yourself. Oh, and I would suggest that a .308 is more dangerous than an air rifle, back stop or not I agree with the above You do not have the rightto a Firearms Certificate, you have to provide a Good Reason to acquire it an
  4. Would like to see that tested in other forces apart from North Yorks. My force would not grant an open ticket just because of the wording of an application, regardless of whether BASC is involved or not, they will look at the individuals circumstances rather than their language skills.
  5. If you have permission from the holder of the shooting rights then yes. If not, then no. Same as any other type of permission. As JT says, it belongs to someone. Land Registry might be able to tell you who.
  6. yes gary there rare in 1 in 8 twist as the most factory coopers are 1 in 14 in the br i see inless you ask them for the 1 in 8 or 1 in 10 i think ? the m595 is a lovely action and trigger. im keen to see how the 40 gn vmax go. got some 34 gn dogtowns to for the rabbits 34? They'll be bloody fast for a .222 Let us know how you get on, I'd be interested to know
  7. Nice to hear some good workmanship still exists. If the rifle is sound, then the .222 won't disappoint for charlie. Lovely calibre to shoot.
  8. Emerald Green? I'm colourblind so it could be Green/Brown/Red depending on the time of day
  9. Warn Meters can only be seen by you and Moderators. If you break board rules, then your warn meter is added to. There is a brown bar to show how much warning you have (not brilliantly explained Iknow) You currently have no warnings so nothing to worry about.
  10. I think they will be so distraught John, they will drive into the wilds and never to be seen again Then it'll be all your fault for removing them as a friend :D
  11. I did that Bairn, Mr G will give us a stern talking to now
  12. See what you mean now....but its not that much work to change it
  13. John, go to your name on the top right and click for the drop down menu. Go to my settings, click on the Profile tab. The second section on that page is "friends" and there's a friends approval option there
  14. I have yes. But prefer 1/4. Choke all depends on what load you are using. 32gr of 7 1/2 will produce a dense pattern even through Cylinder and effective to 35 yards on most feathered Game, 32gr of no.4 will produce a sparse pattern through cylinder and will not have as many pellets in the kill zone at that distance. Depends what you are shooting and at what distance, with what load
  15. I'll second that Friend of mine had a hefty bill after having to pay a gunsmith to remove a seized Teague choke from his Browning B2G
  16. Not sure on the CIP regulations but can't say I'm greatly surprised at your situation. Haven't bought Eley's for a very long time, never been a brilliant shell in my experience compared to others I've tried. Good luck trying to send them back, you'll need it.
  17. It'll be about twice as much spread The shot pattern will open out considerably compared to using a half choke, but its very hard to define it in words. Your best bet if you want to have an idea in your mind is to fire a shot at a 1m x 1m piece of paper and see what the difference is at about 30 yards or so.
  18. From my experience, one of the worst things you can do is oil inside the action of a shotgun or a rifle. Grease the hinges and other moving parts but oiling inside the action will attach dust and other muck and it will grind inside the action. I follow a basic routine with the shotguns of cleaning the barrels until squeaky clean, oiling them. Wiping down the action and re-greasing the hinges and then it goes back into the cabinet barrels down to let anything run off onto the cabinet mat. I take the stock off perhaps at the end of the game season and clean the action with oxygen in
  19. Great. We would all be charged if we effectively stole £30,000, so why are they any different. I doubt they will get much if any time though, even the worst criminals are only in for 3/4 years these days, so what chance has a fat cat MP with a good lawyer got of going in prison. Little!
  20. Glad this thread has kept going, good to know what its like around the country.
  21. I have one in my HMR with a medium tube on it which makes for more than adequate trigger pressure. I deem it safe and has never gone off without being asked to but I can see your point and the gunsmiths'. Which reminds me, I need to fire the rifle Been out of action for the winter....
