  1. I use two lurchers and a lab... Any of them do the job.... Best is the lab, followed by the beddie x collie/saluki/greyhound, The other lurcher does it, but takes longer.. (whip x collie/grey) and tends to do it without the nose to the ground.. other dogs nose to the ground straight away.. I dont however take the lurchers along on the stalk.....they are left in the motor. Every stalk, we take the dogs to shoot site, irrespective of whether we know where the carcass is or not. its good training.
  2. I think you should give it a go as a guest of someone like Stuart first. Its not everyone's bag. Most experienced folk are happy to share their skills and knowledge. I think the most important things if you want to take up stalking thereafter are patience, honesty and integrity. Land isnt going to come overnight, but be patient, do what you say on the tin, dont rush or 'beg' . If you put the word about in a responsible manner it will come. You need to learn your trade, don't expect to turn up, pull the trigger and go home for tea cakes (By the way, I am not suggesting you would) how
  3. Not for me I'm afraid, I had to turn it off when the pack was attacking the pig... Its all about humane killing and utilisation of the carcass for me.

  17. It has certainly risen the cost of treatment for dogs who aren't insured... And i think where common sense would prevail in the past, the vet makes it his aim to prolong life even in the short term, at any cost... And why does a vet need to know if a dog is insured or not when carrying out a consultation??? So he can gauge the maximum possible return on the animal...
