  1. Well, I had a look yesterday round my fields, and all thats there are a few dried shriveld ones The previous 3 years have been bumper crops, so I wonder what has specifically influenced this years shortage? I just gave my father in law 1 1/2 ltrs of last years I made, and am wishing I kept it for ourselves now hey ho! One thing I did notice is lots of rosehips though.... anyone know a recipe for them? PS! Check out ebay!!!! There are people selling them from between £6 and £9 per lb!!!!!!
  2. Its very special whatever it is!! lovely picture dawn
  3. Stunning pics, love the colour of Hare's eye's, gorgeous!
  4. They look like bot fly larvae to me... normally found in horse dung - the eggs gets laid on horses legs, horse licks em off, eggs hatch in stomach and attach to the lining of the tum, then, if they aren't wormed with the appropriate wormer, the mature lavae release themselves from the stomach wall and get passed out in the droppings. They then get into the soil, or stay in the dung, where they finish maturing and out hatches the fly...... I think........ Might have it wrong somewhere along the line ......... But then I just read that they are coming from from light fittings!!!
  5. Thats awfull they need some shelter its only a tiny baby Those sort of horses are built to withstand the elements Kay, its only us looking in that think it looks mean. If it were a fine skinned thoroughbred, then you would be right, but look at the coat and feathers on that mare, and the foal knows to hunker down in the hay for some extra warmth .... Her and her foal will be fine dont worry PS, it is a late foal though, if that was taken recently.... ideally foals should be born end spring, early summer, so they go into the winter stronger and older
  6. Some great advice there - all my hens have stopped laying! Bitter pill to swallow when they are still shovelling corn and pellets in them like no tomorrow!!
  7. Blimey, I hadn't realised there was a shortage, I haven't even looked round my land yet!! I made 4 ltrs of Sloe gin last year and its bloomin gorgeous....Now coming out for the start of the season :tongue4: I'll have a look out tomorrow and see whats about.... I saw they were selling sloes on ebay last year!

  9. The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife goodbye and said, 'Well, I'm off now. The man should be here soon.' Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. 'Good morning, Ma'am', he said, 'I've come to...' 'Oh, no need to explain,' Mrs. Smith cut in, embarrassed, 'I've been expecting you.' 'Have you really?' said the photographer. 'Well, that's good. Did you know babies are
  10. Lovely evocative pic, well done
  11. Nice work! I've had a great season catching em, and have got two others sorted out with traps on thier land too, so we're making a good mark on our area might give some of the young song birds a chance this year!
  12. Tea is a very very mild antiseptic - great for a gentle eye wipe. I had to use them for my old mare who was blind in one eye from an injury, and she had reoccuring infections. Vet recomended the tea bag trick Sorry bout the kit.
  13. I'm with the the Lamb Sandwich, great shot x
  14. Nope but a neat find, well done!
  15. No idea Kay!! sounds interesting though.... I remember my nan doing this Kombucha (sp) stuff, with a pink skin growing over the top of it!!!!! I had a go for a few months too... can be quite a nice (in a weird way) drink Sounds similar to the ginger beer thing with passing half of it on. Hope you find out a bit more about it, I'd be interested to have a go.
  16. To be honest kay I cant remember - my ones this year went out in May - and the year before they went out the same... but that wasn't because its what they said to do on the tin, it was just when I stumbled accross them. I think you have a bit of give and take with wild flower seeds, as they can lay dormant for a long time, waiting for the right conditions. Take poppy seeds for example.... A farmer could plough an old ley thats not seen poppies for years, and suddenly gets the red beauties springing up everywhere.... i will look on line for seeeds & see what it sayes , love the poppy
