  1. Last year, I bought a tub of wildflower seeds from Lidl's. They were to chuck over the stoney subsoil that had been pushed to one side while digging out for our drive way, that looked a bare mess. Not much came through last year, but this year, look at the results!! And I have literally done nothing. I've bought another few tubs and spread them around this year, so will hopefully get the same next year *fingers crossed* I know some of the flowers aren't wild, and my farmer ex husband, scowled at the poppies and corn marigold when he came to drop the kids back, but you know what, the Bee's lo
  2. Saviour ... I have planted lots of wild flowers this year and will endeavour to do more hearing that. I took a lovely pic of a peacock in March this year! ... while the photo comp was going on.. is that a strange time of year to have them out?... do they hibernate? (I know nothing really about thier lifespan etc)
  3. Bloomin well done for reporting him, we had our trap smashed to pieces a couple of weeks ago, and I'd have done the same if I saw/caught them at it :realmad: ... Hope you get a good result!!
  4. I recon he mistook the ariel for a mate similar size
  5. The fox has been back scratching about around parts of the perimeter fence, i put wires and a live trap down so Tis TM held off with the lecky fence for a bit. Still no luck
  6. Lovely looking lot of birds there... My experience with 3 turkeys was a nightmare.... One got pulled through the wire run by mr fox, and had all its wing chewed off and part of its breast, one did get to the table but you'd have thought it had been on a diet!! ... and the other I eventually rehomed... I phoned the chap up a few months later to see how he was getting on with it... (it was a bronze stag) and apparently it sh*gged one of his geese to death! ... I dont think I'll bother with turkeys again but best of luck
  7. Have you any guesses on why the fledgling tit's have perished?.... Sad
  8. Standard operating proceedure with corvids  'Gut Suckers'. Is it any wonder they need to die? Yeah, I've seen many a cast sheep, still alive with partial entrails pulled out, or an eye or two taken They go for the easy meat
  9. Well the main reason magpies go in the trap is to get to the decoy bird to attack it, to get it off thier patch. They will kill stranger birds, and I guess if they are hungry enough, they'll eat thier own kind too. Its actually amazing how much a magpie eats to stay healthy, it doesn't take them long to get hungry. Keep trapping
  10. I know but I thought sod it bit of a rebelian against the larsen wrecker we encountered last week

Quality is very poor as its out of a window, and zoomed right in, but the gist is there.... Magpie gets caught in the first second of the video. On a mission to get a better picture now! P.S Caught 6 today
  12. quote] Cant see where the suggestion of suspicious anti behaviuor came from so dont jump on that old band-waggon. Is it deffinately feeding helpless young?? was it a vixen?? Considdering that "Tis TM" has young to feed, is she not reacting as a mother should and doing what comes naturally??? We are all animals are we not?? and its a dog eat dog world !!! I agree Wilf,, you still did not answer the question . Yeh ok your permission has a lot of reared game birds ,,, AND,,, Its not you working your arse of to keep them is it? But i can garantee you if you had put the hard wo
  13. I have got stock left WILF yeah, and although they aren't show stock, or anything fancy, they are something that give me great joy going out and tending to a couple of times a day. The kids love learning about rearing stock for the table, and how to look after animals in general. The fox has been back and tried to dig in on a different spot, and this morning I've been out and paced bricks and earth around the spot to try and build it back up again... looks like its not going to give up very easily. I have thought about putting a strand of electric fending round the bottom, but it wont be easy
  14. And I hope you dont........any mother would do the same to feed her young. It may help the kiddys if you explain why the fox did it My wife doesn't go out and buy 20x what we need to eat every week, so not ANY mother does the same as a fox. Sorry to hear about your loss, the kids must be gutted, I DO hope you get the culprit. Best of luck with your new ones. Cheers matey
  15. And I hope you dont........any mother would do the same to feed her young. It may help the kiddys if you explain why the fox did it I have explained, and they understand the foxes "thought" process.... but being so bloody determined to dig under my well fenced pen, and take my easy prey, rather than chasing one of the few dozen bunnies I've got running around here, takes the proverbial! If I'd been slack and not had my ducks and chucks well contained, then I would have no reason to be peed off with the raynard, but seeing as we spent a fortune creating a supposedly safe environm
  16. beautiful shots ... whats the one with the pink chest?
  17. Crikey! I hadn't seen it till now either, they didn't mess about did they Well, I've caught another 3 maggies today, and rehomed two in friends traps, and when Bigbulls has made another couple of larsens, we'll get em out on the friends place again.... All the dime bars have done is made us more determined
  18. that what makes it worst, its not even a meal as they kill for the fun of it, then leave them there, if they were killing and feeding themselves/young etc, you'd feel it was the way of the world, but to kill and leave as an alternative, dunno if anyone's tried it, but its working in our garden, when the neighbours aint looking, piss around the perimeter of your garden, it stopped our local fox from coming in, correction, it comes in, but wont go anywhere near my scent marking area's (poultry/ferrets) Worth a try if we dont get it!! Might get the other half to oblige, as there's too
  19. None of the snares have moved this morning, but the bloody thing has started to dig in a different place! Unfortunatley our poultry pen borders an elderly persons over grown orchard, and its totally impenetrable in most places, feels like I might be fighting a loosing battle My brother is going to bring the live cage trap over later to give that a go too. The injured lavender is still alive this morning, but looking very sorry for herself, I'll give her a couple more days In the shed to recouperate, and see how she goes from there.
  20. I was stunned, no more so than my friend with the magpie problem! The trap hadn't even been out for 24 hours!!The "do gooders" also let out the two that were caught and about to be picked up by myself to distribute among friends for call birds. Such a shame to see a beautifully made trap smashed to bits, and such a shame that the retards that did it have never seen magpies peck the eye's out of cast sheep, pick fledgling song birds out of the sky, raid eggs from nests ... I need not go on! Another trap will be there pronto
