  1. Brilliant Is that just normal 2 x 1 batten?
  2. No, link didn't work, but thanks for trying. I didn't realise that they were best off this big... I'm still catching 1 - 2 a day in the larsen at the mo, but would love to see a ladder trap working, going to have to rustle up some plans and talk nicely to my bro! Having it dismantleable is a great idea, as I dont really want a permanent fixture.
  3. Ah you got the painted lady before me, well done I've seen loads out today too, but didn't have the time to grab the camera, hehe. The other pics are lovely too Kay x
  4. Look at that profile already Little nose/lips and everything, amazing they are little people already even at that size. Lovely x x
  5. Yeah but....... one little bite is never enough, and I wont stop once I start
  6. Yes they are!! I've resisted the urge to pick them too, even though I know they are a massive burst of strawberry deliciousness! lol I can buy a punnet of strawb's from ASDA, my little birds in the garden cant
  7. D'ya know... I'm not sure, as it was a bit smaller and had no spots atall... I think there's a small white, or veined white butterfly variety that it might be??? thats why i wondered or not cause normally they have a black spot on the wing dont they ?? Yip, one or two depending on if they are male or female I think... I'm sure someone will shed some light, as I haven't got time to trawl the google results

  9. Just a few odd's n sods, didn't manage to get that painted lady though
  10. Yes but thats the beauty of the programme, she represents a huge number of people that dont know crap all about wildlife, and when she comes out with a comment like that, she can be put straight. Its about time that it wasn't all chocolate box, beatrix potter world.
  11. I can only speak personally, but I have a 6 x 4 garden shed as my chicken house, with 4 nest boxes about 2 ft off the floor at the back. When one of my hens goes broody, they generally fart about for about 3 to 5 days, and move from box to box. I'm collecting eggs every day so I disturb them aswell. The best way I can tell if a hen will sit tight is if she still hunkers down with no eggs under her. I make sure she's sat for 3 days, then move her with the selected eggs to another garden shed that has a nest box on the floor, same size as the laying boxes 12 x 12 inches. They are nothing spesh
  12. Mine did that a few weeks before it went futt! Turned out there was a build up of dust on the fan blades, and it couldn't take in enough air to keep cool. Youshould be able to take the side off and use the hoover brush to suck out any build ups, or get a dry paint brush to loosen them first.... OH, and obviously.... make sure its turned off and unplugged before you endeavor to do so
  13. Oh my god, I've got a thing about tree's anyway, and that pic makes me tingle I could imagine that as some amazing mythical beast quite easily!! Lurve it!
  14. I was searching on ebay for a ladder trap, and came across this monster! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8FT-X-6FT-LADDER-TRA...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Has anyone ever made one this big? and is it worth it? I'd have thought one a quater of the size would do just as well?? I was going to ask my bro' to make me one, as he has done with larsens... is there any handy tips to include? I've been catching carion in the larsens quite well, but I'd rather keep them for the mag's and jays alone. Thanks
  15. The last time I saw a proper flock of starlings here (Mid Cornwall) was on the front of a maize clamp (Cow feed for those of you who dont know farming talk) and that was around 10 years ago. I only ever see the odd one now, but I'll keep my eye's open... they aren't usually a bird I would take too much notice of to be honest.
  16. Not sure!! I thought it was a beetle larvae of some sort.......
  17. Found in the well rotted horse dung heap... He's about 5 - 6 cm and bloomin quick, had a job to photo him!
  18. Healthy looking critters aren't they.... wonder if they'll try that again?
  19. I had two empty larsens out, with no callbirds, just baited up.... I caught a pair of Jay's in the first day and that was using big lumps of white bread.... I think the bait needed for catching will depend on what area they are in, eg, got a few houses around feeding garden birds, then nuts and bread would be appealing as they are quite likely getting some already..... If its woodland/farmland, then go for something like the mock nest.
  20. Bloody good on you... we rescued a 6 month old Ridgeback bitch from some idiots that said "It's brill when everyone stops ya in na road an asks what the stripe down the back is" .... Makes me spew ...
  21. LOL ... I haven't laughed so much in ages watching that!!! LOL I was even laughing in anticipation before the guys had fired the thing in the end!!! LOVE IT!
