Dragging an old thread up as I couldn't find anything newer when I searched!! Anyhow, I've been in to Bonsai for well over 20 years!, Here's a few of mine.. This one is a Juniper with shari (Dead trunk part that is lime sulfered).. This one is a slanting Hawthorne, It wasn't doing well in the com[post that was too heavy so an old trick is to lift the tree from the pot and plant it in to Sphagnum, moss, It seems like a tonic to them!, This actually seemed almost dead but in two years turned around smashin!! Another (Smaller) Hawthorne..

Custom Built MDF Wheel Sharpener
johnbaz replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
I have an old 1hp Wolf buffing machine, I made a leather wheel from a pile of old leather aprons at work!!, I noticed that when I buffed blades up, It edged them up better than I could on my Arkansas stone!! ? It's the right one and is switched on in the pic as it just flops over when turned off due to not being stitched!! John ? -
Sounds like a plan!! I don't use them, I just have a small collection of old pellets! Cheers, john ?

That looks a cracking catty!! I'm left handed when it comes to catapults and bows, Left handed but right eye dominant, It's not too bad with slingshots but terrble with a bow!! ? John ?

Hi all I bought a Swallow 20x80- binocular last year, They're a bit heavy and high powered to hold still, I have some 1" square tubing and hope to make a weighted parallogram to hold them! They're a bit chunky against my Monarch 8x42! This is what i'm hoping to make! I did a few moon pics with a 500mm lens fitted but have to use manual settings, I find it difficult to tell if i'm fully focussed through the camera so the pics never come out too well! It has a 2x multiplier fitted in this pic so the lens is in effect a 1000mm lens!

I feel free as I just got redundancy after 41 years in a heavy foundry!! My body is shot now as everything about that place just wore you out (Ropes weighed 1/2 ton apiece!) Still have four years to go to old age pension but sod it, Not getting another job!! Time to start enjoying being alive! (When the darned covid carp goes away!!) John ?

Hi I'm not sure if they're still made but these Eley Magnums are around 30gns, They may be available on fleabay occasionally, Just looked, There aren't any on at the moment! John ?

I have a bunch of old rods that I was given by an elderly chap off facebook, I think they're in the shed, I'll dig them all out one day and take some pics!! The last time I went fishing, It was fly fishing at a Trout lake in Chesterfield, My son took me in to a field at the local golf course (Beauchief) amnd taught me to cast with a fly!, People walking their dogs found great fun asking if i'd caught anything even though there was no water nearby!! ? John ?

A couple of my old reels! Mitchell 300 and a Mitchel Prince boys reel.. Some more Mitchell's, A couple of Match reels (440a), One I bought new , T'uther from the bootsale a few years ago with next to no paint on but working perfect;ly!, Think it was a quid! An old Milbro Magapult at the right side, Don't think i've ever seen anyone use one of these whilst fishing!! Old Continental type seat box from the bootsale too, Think I paid four or five quid for it!, The Octoplus legs/feet were already fitted.. Back in the 1980

Hi DB The power is quite good, Not tried this gun at a beancan though so I don't know for sure if it would pass through, The not very good Swiss Arms plastic 1911 managed it though so I reckon the 651 will ? John ?

Birds of prey - Please add yours

A female Sparrowhawk that knocked a Woodie out of the sky and proceeded to scoff it over the next hour and forty five!, I only had a 55mm lens so the images came out small, They became grainy when I cropped/enlarged them ? There's been a pair of Buzzards soaring very high above, They looked like dots in the air, I used my compact that has a 60x zoom and anti shake, I still had to crop the pic! (Was hard to find it in the sky on full zoom!) That's all I have ???? John..- 72 replies

There's so many to choose from!! I like the Makarovs by Baikal and the blowback Lugers by Gletcher, The Nagant at the bottom was ok for a while but then let go of the Co2 ? The 2240 can be made in to all manner of pistols/carbines and the crack is easily tamed with a mod ? Here's a few more Crosmans, The mod600 (Brown grips 2nd from right) is a blast!!, You can rattle the mag of pellets off as fast as you can squeeze the trigger!, They need exactly the right length of pellet though or the swig shuttle traps them ? Apart from the Makarovs ther

I was given this Meteor by a friend, It had been in the back of an elderly chaps wardrobe for years, When he passed away the daughter found it and was horrified!!, She asked my mate to throw it in the dump, He brought it for me though!! I think (Pretty sure actually!) that someone pulled the trigger whilst cocking it as the stock has been split completely in two!! Luckily the breech yokes haven't bent uppards!! I think it snapped the forward cocking links as the replacements were home made and toffee was used!! ? John

Hi Phill Around the first 500 of the total 1,500 produced of these were etched but webley soon found out that the etching wore off!, The text (Patent's etc) were impressed in to the metal after that, There's not many of the etched ones left that have legible etching, I was lucky enough to drop on one local to me! Here's mine, Along with a mk2 service rifle and a mk3 underlever ? The etching that's still on mine (It's starting to fade now so i'm not cleaning it too often!!) I think production was from 1926 to 1929 (The mk2 Service rifle

I tried registering today, Same problem, The visual verification thing is broken, There's been no activity on there in a couple of years though,- If anyone remembers the brilliant maker Mik (Username Penillion) from the defunct British Blades, He went on very recently and was actually talking to himself until another user came on and more or less said the forum was dead ? I thought I was actually a member years ago but tried logging in and it said my email wasn't recognised!! John..

According to Chambers, They have different part numbers (UL35 for the later Mercury, Mk4 and UL041 for the Meteor mk5) so they won't be interchangale, Earlier ones of both guns were a one piece cocking link so,. Again, No good ? John..

Won a Spotting scope with camera attachment..
johnbaz replied to johnbaz's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Turns out it's not fungal but a balsam breakdown, The objective lens is actually more than one and they're cemented together, Something has happened to make it partially let go, I was told the lenses could be fully parted and the balsam cement washed off then rebuilt! Nope, Not a job I fance, I've been refunded in full but it cost me £11 to post the darned thing back ? john.. -

Hi Moley Have to say that your 45 looks very nice! ?? I've two and a half Mod45's, (The half is an action I bought without a stock!!).. This one was a Jubilee model, It would have originally had two panels at the forend that bore the pic of the M&G factory and a badge saying 90 Jahre and Rastatt below with Dianawerk in the middle, Someone removed them before I bought it ? The badge is on the other side, I made two walnut panels to fit the recesses.. This one is .177" The other 1.5!! A mate gave me the full one, He'd tried making it in

Hi all I have a few spotting scopes/Binoculars and telescopes but I won this Opticron HR80 on fleabay a couple of days ago which has an adapter for a camera that i've not seen before, I thought it would just be a T ring and adaptor but this has a strange long tube with figures on it!! I can see what looks like the T ring but then there's the big bulky thing and the tube that i've never seen before, Anyone know what they are? It also comes with a normal fixed mag lens (27x for the 80mm objective) Here's a couple of pics of birds that I took from my

Hi all Not sure if i've posted this one before, It's a mk1 HW80 but has an HW85 barrel fitted!, It has had work by someone as the trigger blade is straight!! The sock is supposedly from a Venom Vantage HW80 but it's a lefty! (I'm right handed but it's still comfy right handed!) Someone had crammed a massive Oxspring inside and when I fired it, It felt like I was getting an electric shock in my hands, It was actually the vibration, It shook a small piece of the stock clean off from just forward of the barrel pivot bolt!- Managed to glue it back in to place, I chopped a couple o
