  1. Fair comment but you have to wonder why the dogs not started .
  2. ................................and whether its a passion or passing phase .
  3. Wont sit well with some but terrier work for us goes well on into April with vixens to ground on the shoots we now get on after the shooting season .I would never own an un-entered terrier at the age of 2 let alone 3 but JMO.Some thought needs to go into when you breed as to how much you can show your apprentice but most dont give this a thought .Up until the age of entering pups are shown as much small game as pos
  4. First class as always Moll .Hats off to you and your crew .We know all about those sheds from years gone by but we waited until the bobcats came in and did a 100% clear . Nowadays its all organics on the site thankfully with moveable sheds but again hats off to the mark and dig method .Some number by any standards
  5. Shit vid i know but can you see the buck on the end with only 3 legs !
  6. IMO breeding from scatter bred stuff you aint never going to fully know your terriers.Terriers from a linage are pretty predictable give or take the odd one. I personally like a terrier to self enter,no hole ending ,short digs or doubling up .In my experience, by what ive seen ,it just gets the youngster wound up and damaged .I like a young un to crawl in cautiously, hopefully find and bay its heart out .Most of mine enevitably start a bit hard first year though but steady up the more they see which is the same for most im guessing .From 14 months on i expect a young un to be up for it .I hat
  7. Yes mate and dont bother ,got ripped off.The mk 3 wont work with mk 1
  8. Might not be as simple as that ,never is .
  9. Good do mate .Did you smoke them or just move stuff.
  10. After leaving college i started going out with a keepers daughter .Nothing special there but good practice if you know what i mean .Her old man was single handed on about 3000 acres and i started doing a bit with him weekends, evenings ,Time goes by and im doing the pest control in 3 large woods on my own ,snaring the perimeters and trapping inside thoroughly loving it .One day he says to me the boss has decided to pay me for what im doing ,more joy .I knew the boss from my full time work working for a local fencing contractor .The boss was the late Paddy Featherstone Godley who some of you wi
  11. Not one to argue mate lol but the cough only lasts a week no matter what you do .
  12. Exactly my point mate .Let them all get it at once and you wont get it again for a long time.Seperate dogs and you will have it coming back again and again. Why do you think hound kennels are shut for the cough ,they mingle them all at once to get it over with as soon as pos.
  13. Just for the record and to lay this to rest for those that havnt a clue .Kennel cough is a VIRUS therefore no amount of antibiotics or other potions will touch it .Viruses have to be left to run their course .There is a jab recommended by some unscrupulous vets but it does f**k all .Talk to any hunt staff about it. Its better that all dogs in a yard get it same time or you will be forever shut up .No excercise when theyve got it 1]it makes the actual cough worse 2]it can spread to every dog they encounter .Keep your antibiotics for when it matters .
  14. Hope this works.Few fallow on the estate were are working on .look at the buck last through .Taken on phone so not brilliant
  15. The ideal duckpond IMO has an island central ,a shelf of about 6 inch deep somewhere round the outside to feed on ,ideal depth of no more than 3ft to encourage insect life so important for ducklings .A few trees encourage birds to climb when flushed or to guide in when flighted .If the pond is good enough the ducks will keep it ice free lol
  16. If it is the cough it will be over by the time this threads finished
  17. An old pic of poor quality i dug out and copied .A dog that did us proud and served a few bitches sadly gone too .
  18. Where i worked was very near a well known agricultural college and unfortunately some of these lads took to poaching the coverts near them with airguns and leaving tell tale piles of feathers and footprints .We had the tip off from a lad whose dad drove a tractor on the estate and who half knew who was doing the poaching through their bragging .As it was a cold covert anyway ,only the odd old cock bird , we put it off until one evening after a particularly long shoot day the head says to us ,"maybe its time to show these college boys whos in charge". It was a thursday night and Mike and myse
  19. Another oldy from time past ,the litter sister to last post above .Must take more pics in future .
  20. Leave well alone mate .if its the cough theres nothing you can do, it just has to take its course like a cough in humans .if its still there in two weeks take to the vet .Self medicating a dog can lead to complications later on if it needs vet attention.Too many piling in drugs they know nothing about .
  21. Up against a shed and run he will get zapped i guess but ive seen them go through a fence 4 foot high with wires 6 inch apart on more than one ocassion with no ill effects but out in the open as a deterrant around organic chicks
  22. Personally i wont kennel anything together now .This is terriers mind .learnt lesson the hard way years ago .Tow bitches in together litter sisters and had to pts both after a violent clash when i was out .Never worth kennelling more than one dog mate but in the house may be different as dinamics are different with you as pack leader and inforcing rules but i would never leave together when your out .Also its worth mentioning never leave working dogs in a car after working especially more than two .seen some horrific fights with no other catalist than there being two against one .
