    Foxdropper,with this line-breeding and you seem to come across as you know what your talking about if for instance you have a very tightly line bred dog and bitch and you breed these,what percentage of the litter would you expect to make the grade as i read where a lot are saying if 50% make it there happy,my question is why should they all not make it if they are bred correctly? Personally i would expect 75% of a litter to make what i consider useful digging dogs ie stay till dug to .I get where your coming from with why not all the litter and i dare say some people would keep the other

    Seems strange that a bird with a brain the size of a marble could have any changing characteristics but its true they do .A nice mix of types is what we got and good husbandry sorted the rest .

    Travel or lack of it also played a part as did the right to fully test a terrier .IMO a true stud dog worth its weight in gold is one that will throw time and time again to type bitches .Ive said it before but a dog to me is the backbone to any line and should be used until he is just reaching old age despite the old saying .i try a few dogs whilst he is alive just to see if they throw what i want and to provide another stud .Casualties do happen and you have to think long and hard about a replacement .I think nowadays people are too quick to use a dog just because it works even if its thrown

    Nobody but nobody is saying its great to dig cubs .Unsavoury to me too but ill do it to help a landowner thats let me on in the first place.Some of us do it to pay the landowners back for allowing us on their land unlike some who just take ,take and take some more .You crack on in your bubble ,hope you and the biggest terrierman in Ireland are very happy in your new ralationship ,lol.Does it mean if some dig cubs they aint decent lads or would you subscribe to the fact that it has to be done but not by you .

    Nothing on here for anyone to be ashamed of is there .Deleting implies we have something to cover up .Terrierwork is part of ongoing fox control for many and as such must remain so .Its the farcical season talk that bears ammunition the to fact that we enoy it and seek to preserve the fox so we can enjoy another season of it .The fact remains that no amount of winter control will leave you cub free in the spring which is when the damage is done

    My take on stud dogs is this .If a dog is good enough to warrant breeding from [and too many arnt ]then why would anyone feel the need to advertise that fact .The circles he moves within will contain enough bitches to sort him out for pups forever .If the dog is from a good line then no one and i mean no one is going to let him cover any bitch no matter its reputation unless its from related stock and then we are full circle back to mates known to the studs owner .IMO a stud from a good producing line will not improve a bitch from scatterbred stock and the only way to start a line is with line

    I think yourself and CorkyJohn are confusing open stud and stud fee. Open stud just means letting people breed off a dog. Price doesn't affect the outcome with the pups. Try to stop worrying about other peoples money and just think about terriers. CorkyJohn have you heard of the Cork dogs The General and The Blindman? (dogs from the white Cork line) They were both available for anyone to use ( and free!) Of course loads of shit was bred off them but they also produced the line thats still being bred today. The more those dogs were bred decades ago the more that's available for guys to br

    What i know is that you work terriers .Plenty do but as to whether you do it right the juries out .Hunting season got nothing to do with fox control nor indeed does hunting in general .Its what f****d up terrier work in England .You keep digging mate but one day there will be a new lad on your land that has put in a bit of graft when needed and not just out for a jolly.Seems your on your own here as thankfully most are sane realists

Couple of days early this year maybe but in session nonetheless.Whist i love nothing more than a good dig i am a realist and i will be out on calls to dig cubs ,shoot vixens and generally preserve what needs preserving this time of year .Its a fool who says do it right in the winter and you wont have problems now.whatever method. and its a narrow minded person who thinks foxes can be controlled purely with terriers .Terrier work whist an obsession is only part of what i do to keep permission and gain more .Be a sad thing if Irishman lost his permission
